This game will be over by halftime if not sooner.

The only hope Lumberton has is very long drives that eat up the clock and Carthage coming in to this game a little too cocky.

They ain't unbeatable though. La Vaga beat them down pretty good a few years ago.

That team wasn't as strong as some of the others. Surprised we even made it to the semis that year. We had either 7 or 9 starters out that game including Ingram. With that being said, they would have most likely one if we had everyone. That Lavega team was sick and VERY underrated.

As for this game I think it'll be closer than most think. I look for a 21-7 score until late second qtr and Carthage lays it on. A friend pointed a few things out to me. That offense gives us fits if ran correctly, don't know how many players are attending the Volleyball game in Garland, the distance and the rain.

You don’t know where I’m sitting or where I’ve been. I’m not going to post the real issues I have with the coaches. If you want to know, I will PM you. The attendance at the home games is just like it was at their playoff game. I’m quite sure some parents had to work. But I’ll bet that’s not the case all the time. I was raised by a single mom with 5 brothers and sisters. Financially we had nothing. Ever. I worked since age 12 and had 2 part-time jobs in high school. I bought my own school clothes, paid for my school lunch because my mom wouldn’t sign up for the free/reduced lunch program. She said that there were other families that weren’t as “fortunate” as us to have 3 people in the family that could work (my mom, my older teenage sister and me). She gave us everything she had. I attended High School at Westbury in Houston my Freshman year. I dropped out of school as a freshman and went to work at a record store on S Post Oak. Rode my bike that I bought babysitting, throwing newspapers and cleaning the grounds and laundromat at our apartment complex. 7 of us in a 2 bedroom apartment, by the way. Started the 9th grade back in the fall at Westbury but soon moved to Lumberton in early September. I was a big kid, and I lifted weights and jogged on my own that summer. The counselor at Lumberton asked me if I ever thought about playing football. I told him yes, and I played football for the first time. I worked all through high school and graduated with honors. Attended Lamar where I also played for coach Ray Alborn. Playing high school football literally brought me from the ashes. I don’t know where YOU came from or what you do now, but I sure as Hell know where I’ve been.

Thanks for the life story but that's not what I was referring to. Nothing you stated justified our comments about the coaches and using the word "negligence". This is not about where you come from but what these coaches have to deal with. Also, football isn't as big in inner city schools these days either.

I struggled with writing this post since the Train played Wheatley last year in the playoffs. This year’s game setting was very similar to last year. The opponent, Wheatley, with good sized kids and athletic ability made a horrible showing. Not just on the field, but in the sidelines, in the stands, everywhere you looked in their direction. The band. More like the size of a garage band than a school band (helluva loud drummer and cymbal player though). I’d be stretching the truth to say there were a dozen kids in their band. Even less were the number of cheerleaders. No drill team, twirlers, flag corps, etc. to be seen. Parents/Fans probably were fewer than 2 dozen. And their coaches - good lord. They should be ashamed to take their paycheck. They should be ashamed for the product they’re turning out. They should be put in jail for both stealing and child neglect. It was sickening. I felt bad for those athletes and the other kids (band, cheerleaders, etc) that it actually took some of the fun out of the game for me personally. This topic could actually spawn hundreds of pages, but I’ll leave it at this... Kids, parents, coaches, community, be thankful for what you have. I know we all like to come on here and piss and moan (me included) about play calling or down years or so many other real issues that need addressed. But I thank God my kids never had to experience the downright negligence that the Wheatley school and community has dealt out to those kids. It’s about as disgusting thing as I have seen. I literally prayed for those boys on my way home last night.

SMH. easy to say from where you're sitting.

The lack of community support is what gets me. I witnessed it last night watching Barbers Hill play as well, the other team had 18 fans at kickoff. Just sad.

The ignorance of these posts are astounding to me. Especially the guy who said these coaches should be ashamed to take a paycheck when these coaches deal with so much more than your coaches. As for the community support, it takes money to travel and most of these parents don't work a 9-5. If Coach Surratt of Carthage coached in this environment I don't think he would excel. It's a different battle and headache altogether that only a few can deal with.

To be honest that’s really a slap in the kids and the coaches face imo. Anyone that walks into a game and wants to be loser is a disgrace to the sport. That’s just how I feel about it.

I wouldn't call them a disgrace to the sport. You try to put yourself in the best position to go a far as you can in playoffs. Kids will always play hard but I have no issues with playing the 2's in a game that affects seeding. Work smarter not harder. Especially if the outcome doesn't hurt you AT ALL, let the benchwarmers play.

  6. This thread is very interesting. The talk about coaching and the qb is crazy. Teams get better as the year progresses. Heck in 2016 Carthage wasn't very good until something clicked after we eeked by Silsbee. 16-0 isn't the only way you can win state. I'm from Carthage and I seem have more confidence than some of you WO-S fans. Yall lost to a phenomenal team. Learn from it and try to get back to AT&T. Funny how some of you had full confidence in the staff during the winning streak but not enough confidence that they can coach a team not as talented back to Austin.

Why are everyone so offense?  No one said anything about WO-S not making another championship push.  We're going in observations from a scrimmage.  It don't matter that it a happened in the past, but THIS YEAR, they were dominated by Vidor, and we already knew this would be an inexperienced squad.  Wouldn't shock me or others at all if they don't suffer a loss this year.  It also wouldn't surprise me if they lose a couple of games on their schedule.

I truly hope they do good this year.

Just seems like everyone is overreacting the purpose of a scrimmage is to find your weaknesses.

  8. This is hilarious. It's just a scrimmage. God forbid they lose a preseason game. Out of all Carthage's state title teams only two were undefeated and a couple of the teams looked really bad in scrimmages and preseason. WOS will be fine. If they played week 10 they'd probably bust the scoreboard on them. Your coaches get paid to coach and make adjustments. All of you who are freaking out shows a lack of confidence in the coaches (assuming it's WOS fans freaking out)

Iook buddy I don't care about the regular season, if you wanna wait on that then be my guess. Wining District and playoffs games is the only thing that's matters.

I agree for the most part with the exception of district titles. I couldn't care less about those either.

Who was QB last year when Carthage won the Championship? The year Surratt found out about the video? You are hung up on when the video was recorded. The cover-up happened later

The video was seen in the Fall of 2016. Carthage has been covering up crap like this for years. At the time it wasn't about football, it was protecting the district.
