to be fair, I'm a libertarian, and have strong leanings in both directions about different issues. but I appreciate the compliment, because one thing I do try to do is take a logical look at every issue from both sides before commenting on it.

While I feel that this is almost assuredly an accurate statement, I sure would like to see the body and dash cam footage to see exactly what happened. The footage from those cameras will have a large amount to do with how severe his punishment ends up being. he's charged with murder now, but it's likely going to be difficult to prove. we'll see how this all plays out.

When you look at the cases that are thrown around, very few of the people who are shot are innocent. A better question is why does the media strive so hard to turn justifiable shootings of young black men by white cops into race baiting news stories? The amount of heinously bad killings by cops is extremely low. We're talking about maybe 1 or 2 a year where you can honestly look at it and say "that was murder", and there's no reasonable defense to the officer's actions (the Walter Scott shooting, for example). When you consider the hundreds of millions of police interactions a year with the public (many of which are with violent criminals), that number is very good. We all make mistakes at our job, but most of our jobs aren't life and death. a bad decision by a police officer could mean someone is killed, and police have to make these decisions knowing that the person who might be killed if they make a mistake is themselves. When you consider that, it's amazing that they show the restraint that they do. As for the "white officers shooting innocent black people", while I disagree with the media as to just how "innocent" most of the "victims" are in these shootings, it's mostly a numbers game. Approximately 73% of law enforcement officers in the US are white. Around 12% are black. Add to that the fact that black males commit a disproportionate amount of the violent crimes in the US (8% of the population committing well over 40% of violent crimes), and the odds of a white officer responding to a call involving a black perpetrator or complainant is extremely high, and happens thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of times daily across the country. It's really no surprise that a good chunk of police shootings involve white officers and black criminals, and when they don't, the news has little to no incentive to report about it.

Gonna have to pass on making the drive to see that one...

if that's the case then he's guilty of exactly what he's been charged with.

the most recent account I've seen was that the vehicle was running in reverse, ignoring commands to stop. then they shifted gears and started going forward, at which point the shot was fired. what I'm wondering is whether the officer who shot was near the front of the car (following it while it was backing away), and when they kicked it into drive and started heading forward if he then was in/near the path of the vehicle and fired the shot. it would appear at this point that the officer used horrible judgment in shooting at the car. Perhaps a bodycam video will shed some light on the situation. If the video shows that the car is trying to hit him, or driving in a manner that put his life in significant danger, then while I'm not a fan of firing blindly into a car in most situations, I can understand why he feared for his life. If the car is passing by him without the officer having to move out of the way and he fires into the car as they drive by, that's a different matter.

this has absolutely no bearing on the case. Any time someone intentionally kills someone else it's called a homicide. Even if it is determined that the cop did nothing wrong, it will still be ruled a homicide. I'm not taking the cop's side on this one, just explaining to you. If you break into my house and try to shoot me, and I end up killing you, the coroner would still rule your death a homicide, even though I have committed no crime while protecting myself. I can tell that you're posting this because you took this to mean that the coroner is saying the kid was murdered. While this may be the finding of investigators later, the article here doesn't add anything to what we know. It was already known that the cop had shot the kid, which was all this ruling is stating.

sounds like you don't know nearly as much as you think. if you're so biased to ignore the many problems that your sports programs have had over the last several years, maybe you aren't qualified to comment on them. It would appear you can't address the issue objectively. Silsbee has some great kids, and some great programs, but it's no coincidence that these things keep happening, and when they're happening this often, it's really pretty ridiculous to say that it's always the other guy's fault.

Believe sundgren struck out 7 and Dallas 11, if i heard the stats correctly. Heck of a game by both of these pitchers. Jack kept Silsbee off balance all night, and they never really threatened, and Trevis made several huge pitches to get out of a few jams. Dallas pitched the better game tonight, but Sundgren didn't deserve to pick up the L.
