I wouldn't feel so bad about losing to Carthage if I were you.
in 2015 Waco LaVega was a straight up BEAST! Carthage played them the next game after yall and was lucky to get the 3 points they did in a 39-3 spank spank by LaVega.

Goes to show you that regular season games are exciting and tell you a bunch about your team.
The playoffs show what you have learned and whether or not your mettle was tested during those games.
It doesnt happen often enough for the Tigers, but when they get deep in the playoffs its a game.
Ill take 7-4, 6-5 reg season all day if it prepares us for December.
Two games that will hurt me forever...

All rankings are a guess.....there's a lot that goes into them, past performance, returning starters, pedigree of program and coach and there's some hunches/feelings that go into it as well...its not a perfect science but we tend to do ok...
as for Hirschi..I think people forget just how close they were to beating Stephenville in the semifinals last year...we are talking about a team that went 12-3 last year...is moving down to D2 in Region I and they return a dozen starters...if their Coach doesnt take the Coppell job and take his son who was the leading returning tackler with him, I think Hirschi would be ranked #2....

Silsbee is more of a guess because they were average last year, but sixteen starters back, including a large number of juniors who played as sophomores we felt pretty good about the Tigers, especially considering their recent playoff pedigree

To each his own but might compare the rankings and see how often they come pretty close.
    Take 2020 for example:
#1 Carthage / #2 Gilmer Played for Title
#3 Wimberly lost to #1 Carthage (State Semis)
Only outlier was #15 Graham lost to #2 Gilmer (State Semis)

#4 WOS lost to #7 China Spring (Reg Semis)
#5 PG lost to #22 Caddo Mills (Reg Semis)
#6 Celina lost to #15 Graham (Reg Finals)
#7 China Spring lost to #1 Carthage (Reg Finals)
#8 Bellville lost to #12 Salado (Area)
#9 Sweetwater lost to #6 Celina (Area)
#10 Sinton lost to #3 Wimberly (Reg Semis)

    Again, to each his own.
    Especially the Haters.

Stay strong, love your town, believe in your team but respect the other teams as well when they win.    Let each season do it's thing and build from it.

Yeah, opportunities forged by the hard work and success of his father, not only in the coaching profession, but in modeling what a successful coach looks like to both of his sons. His older brother was a star at Baylor as a QB, then was a successful HS coach which afforded him the opportunity to return and be hired at Baylor. Shawn was retained through a coaching transition so he must be pretty good at what he does also. Brian just won a state championship and knocked off both WOS and Carthage on the way to the trophy. But yeah, it's all about connections and opportunities others don't have. That's why he's a success.
This argument is weak. The idea that fathers cannot forge a legacy which benefits not only himself and his immediate family, but also future generations of the family is insane. That's the goal of every father, to give their children opportunities either they didn't have, or had to break walls down to receive. No one is stopping anyone from breaking their own walls down and creating the same type of legacy for their family, but it's must easier, and more popular in 2021, to lay down, cry "privilege", and put your hand out to be given something you didn't work one second for. The children we are raising under this ideology have an interesting situation in front of them. Many of them will choose to be victims and will remain victims for the remainder of their lives. Some will see this for what it is, and understand that competition to get to the top will be less fierce than it has been in years past because the number of "victims" has increased. I hope some of them take the opportunity seriously and grab it.
    Congrats Coach Bell.

Newton better count their blessings that they didn’t consult with Reagan in the late 70’s, through the 80’s and 90’s.

In 1974 Newton won state, only to have Coach Lyndee Thompson leave to go to another school.   So they promote the offensive coordinator for the 1975 season.   It took Newton 23 years to win another state championship.  So according to Reagan, Curtis Barbay, the 8th all-time winningest coach in the state of Texas woulda been canned in the mid-80’s for not delivering a state title.

Other schools like Hampshire-Fannett has done what you advocate.   HF had UIL hall-of-fame coach Les Koenning, who is one of the most respected coaches in the state of Texas, all time, as their head coach.  In 1974, HF was #1 in the state.   They lose to #2 Newton (see above) in the 1st round of the playoffs.
In 1975, HF was #1 again, only to lose in the 4th round, to the eventual state runner-ups.    So in 2 years Les Koenning went 23-2, and people in the community were up in arms, and he didn’t get renewed.   HF has never sniffed that success again.

Winning a state title is much harder than you make it out to be.   Sometimes perspective is hard to come by and keep.

Ask Randy Allen at Highland Park… he didn’t win a title at Brownwood, following Gordon Wood.   He also didn’t win one at Abilene Cooper.   Turns out he knows how to coach despite not winning a title.

Same with Phil Danaher and countless others.
