Odd scheduling as East Texas A&M has played 4 games in conference, 6 teams have played 3, and LU and 2 others have played 2 games. LU (2-0,) and SFA (3-0) are the only 2 unbeaten in conference thus far. LU hosts UIW next week in the battle of red birds. UIW put a scare in SFA tonight and escaped with an overtime victory over HCU 2 weeks ago.4 points -

Looking ahead, Week 7 Coverage Area Schedule
Mr. Buddy Garrity reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
I posted this thread before the season started and how this week, Week 7, looked to be a BIG week of games. Well after further review, that looks to still be true. I even added a few more games to the original list from August. Here is my modified list: Thursday, Oct. 8 Crosby at Kingwood Baytown Sterling at Beaumont West Brook Joaquin at Shelbyville Friday, Oct. 9 North Shore at Summer Creek Beaumont United at Goose Creek Memorial PA Memorial at La Porte Texas City at Port Neches-Groves Huffman at Bridge City Livingston at Little Cypress-Mauriceville Vidor at Lumberton Shepherd at Hardin-Jefferson West Orange-Stark at Hamshire-Fannett Jasper at Silsbee (Silsbee homecoming) Anahuac at Buna Orangefield at East Chambers Newton at Hardin Fairfield at Palestine Westwood Woodville at New Waverly Evadale at West Sabine Like I said, very big week. Thoughts on any of these games and what other games not on the list that should be?1 point -

Trump Effect
Boyz N Da Hood reacted to Porter for a topic
President Trump says he will now give a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” to every US citizen if Republicans win the midterms, rather than just US adults. On September 9th, President Trump said that only US adults would qualify for the $5,000 payment. There are ~316 million US citizens, meaning the payments would total ~$1.58 trillion. That is +$350 billion more than the previous proposal. Smh…..good grief talk about being desperate.1 point -

If he is talking about Lufkin, that is in error, although you always hope to have a better year than the last.. We all knew the youth and inexperience coming on board this year, at least I did. There are always those out of the loop Lufkin fans who thinks a new coach should win immediately, they do not understand a program rebuild. Abseck is doing that. It doesn't show on the varsity with all the sophs and fresh up there getting their feet wet, but it is happening at the Freshmen level where the Lufkin kids have smoked all of their district opponents. through 4 games. Lufkin has a large number of kids in the freshman program. It's more plausible to expect next season to have the expectations.1 point -
No doubt these are two of the better back to back classes Buna has fielded in quite awhile. This next game against Anahuac won’t be a pushover. They started a good number of sophomores and freshman last year best I recall. More than likely the winner of this one finishes 3rd in district play and the other in 4th. Buna could actually finish 8-2 which would look good on someone’s resume. Wish the Cougars the best of luck the rest of the way.1 point

In my opinion it is legal in Texas to draw a firearm to let the other person know that you will use it if necessary. Of course, that kind of flies in the face of the repeated comments I have heard (including some handgun license instructors) that say, if you pull a weapon, then you had better use it or you will go to jail. I believe it depends on the situation. Texas actually addresses this issue in chapter 9 of the Texas Penal Code on self-defense. This Section talks about drawing a weapon in order to scare the other person from needing to be dealt with in a more serious manner. Sec. 9.04. THREATS AS JUSTIFIABLE FORCE. The threat of force is justified when the use of force is justified by this chapter. For purposes of this section, a threat to cause death or serious bodily injury by the production of a weapon or otherwise, as long as the actor's purpose is limited to creating an apprehension that he will use deadly force if necessary, does not constitute the use of deadly force. Under 9.04 the “threat” of force is justified “when the use of force is justified”. So if a person reasonably believes that he in danger and the use of force or deadly force is justified, so is the threat to use it. That seems overwhelmingly logical. If you are justified in taking another person‘s life in self-defense, why would only threatening him be a crime but killing him not? The Texas law then specifically says that if you have the justification to defend yourself, the threat that you will in fact defend yourself, including up to deadly force, is not a crime if the threat was limited to scaring the heck out of the person (creating an apprehension) to make him stop. There is always the issue of the threat against you being a reasonable belief. If for example, a person walks up to you in a parking lot and ask for money to buy a sandwich, I believe you would be hard-pressed to make a Jury believe that you were reasonably in fear of your life because a homeless person wanted to eat. On the other hand if you were in your 70s, and some big guy is charging towards you and saying, I’m about to stomp a mud hole in you, would you be a reasonable fear? A person must take him into Account that deadly force in Texas does not mean death, but can also mean serious bodily injury. Serious bodily injury can be the loss or protracted loss of a bodily organ or member so a broken hand that puts your arm in a cast for four weeks is almost certainly going to be seen at deadly force. Also note, the Texas law on self defense says that if evidence of self defense is presented to the jury, the state must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was NOT self defense. So in a case, like this a person says (not sure of the details) that, yes he drew a gun because he reasonably believed that he was in danger of serious bodily injury by a person approaching him angrily after the person was told to stop several times. Would he reasonably believe that he is in danger of being seriously injured and does the DA believe or convince the grand jury beyond a reasonable doubt that he knew that need was not in danger? Without actually knowing anything other than what is in the media, I would think that he would not be indicted because there is not enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that he was not unreasonable, fear of serious injury. It is my opinion that many people hear that he drew a gun and automatically say that is a crime. As we can see by the Texas law listed, that is not always true.1 point -

Not sure what’s “better”, playing a solid schedule and making everyone look bad, or playing a tough schedule and looking bad yourself. It’ll be fun watching one of the best quarterbacks in the state throw to one of the best and fastest receivers in the state going against one of the best cornerbacks in the state. Personally I hope WOS plays man. We’ve shown all year that we’ve got a bunch of different guys capable of getting open, so shutting down our best guy isn’t any sort of guarantee of success. Our line is much improved, so Broussard hasn’t run much, but he’s also very capable of picking up some yards with his legs if pressured or if nobody gets open. WOS is certainly capable of beating the horns, but I think your post may be a little over optimistic, and might be underestimating us. We lost by 2 to yall last year with half our team hurt (and beat yall 3 in a row before that) right before yall made a run all the way to state. We’re considerably better than last year and coming in healthy. Should be a fun game!1 point

Not sure where else would make sense to post this, but a Louisiana Board of Regents member has suggested that La. Tech, Monroe, and Lafayette study dropping back to the FCS. Will be interesting to follow as it appears to be more than just a statement and done with it. The money losses for each are staggering. Quite sure none would want to leave their present conference, but might that be forced to do so if a drop does occur. ???1 point -
What you say now? LCM defense shut down the Pirate Offense. LCM offense, #20 (Freshman), #3 (Sophomore), ran the ball up and down the field. #2 - QB, the defending district champion in the 100 meters, passed and ran the ball all night on the Pirates. As far as HF, the LCM offense moved the ball, but was unable to capitalize on scoring. Good thing they play these pre-district games to iron out the kinks.1 point
