  1. Hey HF you have no reason to hang your heads what you’ve accomplished this season was unprecedented. There are a lot of grown ppl hurt by the fact some kids are achieving their dreams and defying the odds. No matter what gets said about your coach I’m sure you know the truth and how he has helped you grow everyday not just in basketball but in life . Keep pushing and grinding because it only gets harder but I know you kids will up for the task. To the the true COACH OF THE YEAR TIGEE RIDEAUX , I know your a competitor inside and out just keep leading your program in the right direction and block out all the negativity. There will always be roadblocks the only way is thru them, around them or over them .

  6. Since you are so insightful regarding deficits and debts, can you tell me why Trumps predecessor increased the debt more than all of his predecessors combined? Can you tell me why Trumps predecessor was the only President ever to preside over a debt rating downgrade for the United States.? The market drop doesn't bother me. I have been through it many many times and EVERY time following the drop, the market moves on to new highs.

  11. 4 of the 5 transfers to Yates this year are seniors. If that's not a red flag, what is? I know schools get transfers. But when you get 3,4,5 a year and they are one sport players (not just students) and seniors to boot, that's suspicious.

    Next Year

They already live there. They were just playing at other schools because HF basketball program was subpar. That's what happens when you actually get a real coach. Players will stay home

  14. A lot of folks around the basketball world would argue that the PG for HJ was the 2nd best player in 22-4A this year. #22 was as good as any one in that district at the post. He had 20 against Yates. Not bad for a role player.

  15. So we're admitting that Yates is a charter school?

  16. There is a certain amount of ignorance apparent in this thread. Many have no idea how the UIL guidelines are enforced. This word.. “transfer”... keeps getting thrown around. Transfer refers to a student that DOES NOT LIVE in a school’s attendance zone. In that case, they are not eligible for UIL competition for one calendar year from the day they enroll. If these 6’8 kids MOVED into Yates’ attendance zone then they are legally eligible. It is against the law to deny an education to any student that lives in your attendance zone. THEY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS to every high school kid in the city or Houston.

  18. One last comment and I’m done with this topic. Yates is a school with rich tradition that has always been a basketball dynasty. This I know. They would probably still be a good team even without the transfers but idk if they would still be state contenders. Maybe so. But I don’t think anyone in their right mind would truly believe 5 6’8 seniors decided to transfer to Yates the same year by coincidence. Those type of things just don’t normally happen. But even if that is the case I still don’t think it’s fair for rural area 4A schools to have to compete against schools like Yates. Yea they might only have 8 or 900 kids at their school currently but you never know what type of athletes or how many athletes are gonna pop up at the school the next year by “coincidence”. If that’s the case and the UIL is going to continue to let that happen they should take that into consideration when classifying them. You can’t classify them as 4A because of their enrollment when there’s at least another 5 or 10 thousand kids living within the school district but not currently enrolled at Yates of whom the best athletes in that group might just decide to transfer to Yates. That’s just not fair. Yates player pool is just way too big regardless of their school enrollment

Ahhhhhh, a capitalist. Another one who benefits from a capitalistic society and wants communism to wreck it for everyone else......and of course doesn’t think it will affect them in the process. Lmao

  20. Jack Yates is legendary school. If you want to know a little background it is the home of Phylicia Allen Rashad (Clair Huxtable on the Cosby Show) and her sister Debbie Allen the show (Fame) and producer of the (A Different World). Yates fans have to understand that your at a advantage every year. Yates is in a city with 3 pro sports teams. Your playing towns with a Brookshire Brothers grocery and Dairy Queen.

  21. Maybe Yates can just go up to 5A or 6A where they belong???
    1 point
  22. Another solution would be classifying schools based on their player pools, not their school enrollment. So in instances like this, where a district is clearly allowing students to transfer schools for athletic purposes, or allows kids to choose any school in the district regardless of their residency, have them play in 6A since they’re forming teams from thousands of kids (or tens of thousands), not the 700 or 800 zoned for their school.

  23. When you find the secret to growing 8 inches by spending more time in the gym let us know. That’s the only way small school high school teams are going to be able to compete with these big city junior college squads.

  25. Aktar went to Legacy. Grew up in BC. Played AAU with the team that practices at HJ. Just saying HJ benefits from move-ins on a regular basis. Yates just has a much better pool to select from. Sour grapes.

  38. Harder in what way? It's not harder to get accepted into college, get financial assistance, gain meaningful employment and even become president of the greatest and most powerful country on Earth. It's harder to get fired from a job, I'll give you that one. You can't call Davis a crybaby for pointing out undisputed flaws in a system and that Yates takes advantage of those flaws to create an unfair advantage and then cry about fairness in society that is easily disputable.

  43. Last few paragraphs from Beaumont Enterprise article on tonight's game. Thought this was good: Jaystan Davis was proud to represent Hardin-Jefferson and be coached by his father. “It was special moment for sure,” Jaystan Davis said. “It’s been a good three years playing for him and we have had had our ups and downs, struggles and success. I have become so much mentally stronger as a player and being a coach’s kid. I have learned how to work well with others and be a great teammate. I’ll take that with me when I graduate and enter the real world.” While Clay Davis was hugging his son, he exchanged words with a Yates fan in the crowd where he became emotional and told the crowd that he was hugging his son. Hardin-Jefferson never led in the game. Yates’ up-tempo offense and press defense cause problems for the Hawks. Austin Samaya led the Hawks with 20 points. Preparing for the No. 1 team in Class 4A can be challenging. “Probably have to go recruit some players,” said Clay Davis on preparing for Yates. “Unfortunately, the system is a little broken right now. There is holes in the system and they choose to take advantage of them. It is what it is, and it’s hard to prepare for. We will take the kids we have in our system that come up in our system. I wouldn’t trade any of our kids for anyone else.” The Lions scored 100 points in their 20th straight game. Yates senior guard Rubin Jones knocked down the 3-pointer with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter that lifted the team over the 100-point mark as the crowd from Yates cheered on the Lions. As the season comes to an end for the Hawks, its five seniors made a name for themselves within the program. “The legacy that they will leave is that they represented Hardin-Jefferson basketball the way it should be represented. I’m so proud,” Clay Davis said. “Those are our kids, Hardin-Jefferson kids from Day 1. We don’t go out and recruit our players. The kids that we put on the floor are Hardin-Jefferson kids from our program.” I think Coach Davis says it all. Kudos to him and his team.
