I can agree with that. Discussion is a way to learn. One or both of us may learn something from it. That's what's wrong these days. We have an "all or none" concept. If Reagan and Tip O'Neil hadn't learned to reach across the aisle, Reagan would have been a much less effective President.

I think D. Miller and T. Smith are the odds-on favorites, but I'd honestly vote for Nguyen on offense if I had a vote.

I agree. A school board trustee of a public ISD should not be in favor of school vouchers.

I’m votin’ Republican in the Primary, ya’ll.  We libs can use our vote where it will count. Right now that’s not the Democratic Primary. I’m going to vote against Janice Holt. How a trustee of a public school system can support vouchers is incomprehensible to me. I don’t want my school tax dollars going to fund any private school. That position is untenable for someone elected to govern a public school. Vote Bailes.

Actually, what I said was something along the lines of “I still like coming on here and checking scores, so I’m not trying to get banned. But rest assured, I’ll be back to take victory lap in November when trump is not elected.” Or something to that effect.

Lucky for y’all, I got bored.

It makes sense because the suit was to keep Trump out of the primary.

It doesn't matter who Trump picks, he's going to burn them at the stake before it's all over with... just ask any former cabinet member, etc... Trump's VP is facing career suicide.  Not from Trump's enemies but from Trump himself.

I'll still say the best option he could go with for a purely vote-getting standpoint is Nikki Haley.  The amount of angry responses I get from Trump supporters any time I bring that up is the exact reason she'd be the perfect running mate.  He won't do it, though.  He wants a puppet.

CardinalBacker got a reaction from Reagan in Trump ordered to pay over 300 million
I think you're missing the point... The state's opinion is that he lied.  His own opinion, the opinion of the bank, and the opinion of whatever appraiser looked over the loan thought that the values were adequate.  Like I said earlier... a lie is "I make $100,000 a year" and providing forged pay stubs is a lie.  If someone tries to borrow money against a property that they do not own... a lie.  If somebody says "I think my property is worth $200k,"  the independent appraiser believes  (in his/her expert knowledge) that the property is worth at least $200k, the bank agrees with the applicant and the appraiser that the property is worth $200k, the loan is then paid back......
Don't let your hatred of the man cloud your judgment.  Like I said... how would you like to be hauled into court over a home equity loan that you'd already paid back because you, the appraiser, and the bank all agreed on the value of the property, but then the state provides their "opinion" of the value of the property back then and files suit against you?

The problem that MAGA has is this.... the wheels didn't fall off when Biden took office.  In fact, we're in better shape now than at any point in Trump's term.  With the exception of the migrant crisis, of course,... but by an other measure things haven't been bad.  Me?  I'd rather watch some old dude fall around all over the place and get confused about everything than listen to four more years of Trump's nonsense.
And most Americans agree with me.  Them Trump flags gonna be at half mast come November.

There aren’t very many conservatives left. You have the liberals, the independents, a very, very small group of conservatives, and then MAGA… the people who worship Trump.
Conservatives believe that they know best how to spend their own money and want to keep it. Liberals believe that the solutions to all of our problems can be done with other peoples’ money. MAGA believes in whatever their daddy tells them.

I personally don’t think he’s in trouble.  I think he’s done the best he can and generally put forth a very conservative platform.  The cries about cooperation with the democrats confuse me; shouldn’t politicians from both sides attempt to work together?  Shouldn’t politicians from both sides be at least congenial and vote for what is best for the state / country?  What happened to common sense?  Close the border, cut back on taxes - across the board.  City tax, county tax, water board tax, port tax, sales tax, income tax, school district tax - Jiminy crickets - enough is enough.

Simple question, for which you don't have to answer.  Are you on Medicare or Medicaid?  I'm going to guess "yes," because the situation as it currently is benefits you.
My coworker purchases insurance through our company for her and her entire family.  The premium that she pays is roughly $1000/month.  In the last two months both her and her husband have had an annual wellness visit (free) and the provider wanted bloodwork which is fairly routine with an annual wellness visit.  The provider billed THOUSANDS for each of their visit(s), then the insurance company scored the bills down to a "manageable" $400 for him and $500 for her... the entire $900 of which came out of her pocket.
When one of her kids needed tubes in his ears last year, it was out of pocket close to $4k.... after an insurance company markdown of the provider pricing.  The birth of her last kid cost however much her annual deductible is... something like $6k, after markdowns and contribution by the insurance company.
Comparing socialized medicine to communism doesn't change the fact that the current system is broken.  But some people like yourself don't care, so long as it works to your benefit.  IF you made an average of $50k per year for 45 years and contributed 3.3% towards Medicare, there would have been $74,500 paid in by you and your employers over your lifetime to cover your healthcare after you turned 65.  The average cost of a knee replacement is $30k, btw.  Every single retiree is receiving more benefits (Medicare) than what they ever paid in.  What do you call it when every single old dude takes in more than he ever contributed?  I'll give you a hint... it's socialized medicine, lol.  You're just happy to be enjoying the benefits of others' labors and the capitalist in you doesn't want to share.  When somebody says "I don't care!  I paid for it!  It's MINE!" what they are really saying is "I'm a socialist, I just don't want to admit it."

CardinalBacker got a reaction from tvc184 in Nikki Haley - What do you think so far?
Actually, what he said is that 70% of Haley's voters weren't registered as Republicans. How many were democrats wanting(?) Haley to get nominated?  I dunno.  How many were Republican leaning moderates who don't feel strongly enough to commit solely to republicanism?  Probably most.  That's the point that no one wants to understand... Trump can't win with MAGA voters or registered republicans alone.  He NEEDS those moderates and even some crossover libs/dems to win.... and he spurns them.

In Texas, you can vote in any primary you wish... you just can't vote in both.  Why should anybody be excluded from voting in the primary of their choosing?  Oh, wait... I forgot that y'all are all from the camp that doesn't believe everybody should be allowed to vote.   As a fair-minded conservative by nature, this was one of the hardest facts to deal with.  A large part of the Republican base does, in fact, believe that some people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I early voted for Haley in the primary.  I think she bows out after 3/5/2024 unless she does unimaginably well.

I'll probably just refrain from voting for President if Trump is the Republican nominee... and I'm 99% sure that he will be.  And whoever gets "lucky" and gets selected as Trump's VP pick will get eviscerated (aka Pence) by Trump eventually, just like everybody else who's ever worked for him.   It's like this- All of the liberals/democrats hate him and will never vote for him.  The majority of Independents/Moderates are also so turned off by his actions that they will either vote for someone else or just stay home.  Somewhere near 40% of Republicans/Conservatives are like me.... they just aren't going to vote for Trump.  As easily as I can say that Haley can't win the primary, I can just as easily say that Trump can't win in the general.
The question is this... who is more ignorant?  The people who vote for the Democrat (presumably Biden) or the people who nominate someone who can't beat Biden?
I'll put it like this... you have the most powerful person in the Texas House representing SETX... Dade Phelan.  I think there's a very good possibility that he loses to Covey, in large part due to the endorsement of Trump.  On here, I see people who are like "yeah, he's a RINO... he needs to go.  Did you see where Trump endorsed him?"  At the end of the day you're just shooting yourself in the foot because you're going from having the top dawg in the House (the Speaker himself) representing you... and you give that away because he's not MAGA enough for you.  It's a huge loss for the locals, but at least MAGA gets a win, right?  It's the reason that San Francisco kept sending Pelosi back to Washington.  Was she perfect?  Heck, no-far from it.  Was she the most powerful person in the House?  Yes.... case closed... you don't fire that person.  Or at least you shouldn't.  But the Left, while I disagree with them, are proving again that they are politically superior to the Right.
