  2. I think most talking about this group are talking about that class as graduating class group being that good. But Yeah that is an awful tough expectation to put on them. That one year class may be 7 or 8 deep is what they are saying where as the last few years you had a mixture of graduating classes to reach that depth. Now will they all stay at that level through high school and other variables...we will have to wait and see. For that group to have the top 4 players reach the level of the 4 you mentioned well that will take lots of work and other things to fall in place. Like you said that doesn’t happen often at our level......well at least in small towns!

  3. Guys this was definitely an upset and a big win for HF but it isn’t near as surprising this year as some are making it out to be. Look at The games HF has played against us and HJ in district. They have definitely improved from last year and even a lot through this year. You can’t base anything for either of these two teams on past years.

  5. Really tough to equal the number of athletes on that 2017 team. Just saw a pic of that team and 12 will be or are playing b-ball or basketball at the next level and I believe another had an offer for a small school. 12 or 13 out of 15 players.....

  6. Silsbee is going to be fine. And I know you guys think the second coming of the class of 2019 on the way. But you either do or will realize how special that group was. You had 4 kids on that team that will play D1 basketball (I hear glowing reports on Tyler constantly on what he’s doing in juco in Kansas). On a 4A team. And McCain had the ability to be the best kid on the floor in every game he played from freshman year on (and was the best player in San Antonio in that State Championship game). And if you haven’t noticed, Adams, as a college freshman, is already drawing the attention of NBA folks. Yes, you heard me right. Maybe you will catch lightning in a bottle twice, just maybe. But that group was a once in a lifetime type class. It will be unfair to every class that comes through Silsbee for the rest of time to use that bunch as the measuring stick. Simply enjoy that you will almost always be one of the better teams in the area.

  7. Reference #2, Come on up to beautiful Aubrey Bradley Stadium, you’ll love it. I was at a game a couple years ago and Larry and Nancy Bealieu came up and sat by us. They said they always wanted to see a 6-man game.

  8. HF haD a record of 11-82 the last 4 years. 22-11 this year is nothing short of spectacular. The win over Silsbee is just the cherry on top.

  9. Exactly what the Dimocrats do not want. Pelosi put off impeachment as long as she could, but her fellow Dimwits got her to cave. I think she knew full well this would be the outcome. We will finally see how "transparent" obama's tenure really was. Let's get it out there Republicans.

  12. Yes they have lost those games but they are in the first year of a new coach and have only 1 loss besides the first one to my Tigers by more than I believe 7 points. They are definitely better than last year and I will still say better than the beginning of the year. This group of Tigers is definitely not the same as last years bunch either you don’t graduate two 4 year all state starters like McCain and Adams and another the quality of Tyler and stay at the same level. It was said at the beginning of district this year that any team could beat anyone else and this just proves that. Did the Tigers have an off night, yes definitely in some ways, but HF came out and simply outplayed us and wanted it more. My question for both teams will be how they respond both face HJ this coming week if I remember what I read correctly. A must win for my Tigers if they want to control things and a definite meaningful game for HF to show that this one want a fluke.

  13. 1. 2010 Abilene ISD teams or 2011 Port Arthur Memorial team 2. Hmmmm... Chester is definitely one of em. 3. Used to be b-dubs, now it's Chili's. 4. Yup, favorite one is Grandview. 5. Grandview 6. Edna Karr in Louisiana 7. Definitely targeting, it's getting ridiculous on all levels of football. 8. Florida 9. Im a fan of both. 10. Yes. 11. I would be fine with that, but travel would be an issue for alot of teams. 12. For SETX: Port Arthur Memorial. For Statewide: San Angelo Central.

  16. Silsbee will be a 4th seed next season. After that trips to state will be back to the norm. HF our played Silsbee. It happens!! Silsbee needs to stop shooting all those 3s. Drive the ball!!!!!!

  17. Take what you can get next year. Silsbee should be down quite a bit with several freshmen and sophomores making up the team...and no Bush. But after next season the tigers will have three strong seasons with each getting better.

  18. And let’s just be clear, Rideaux would make most teams in this area better. He can be polarizing when it comes to other team’s fans, but I can tell you he can flat out coach. (And it’s little known that’s he pretty darn good coaching on the gridiron as well). He’s a passionate guy so some will not like when his emotions get the best of him. But he’s as real as real can be. What makes him elite when it comes to coaching though is a couple of things. He is exceptionally bright and works his tail off with preparation, and he is outstanding with the Xs and Os. But when I tell you he cares for his kids, that is a drastic understatement. I mean he cares for his kids to the point he will do anything in his power to help them, while they play for him or 10 years down the road. And kids aren’t dumb. They know when someone loves them unconditionally. Those kids love him in return and will give him everything they’ve got. Those of us that have known him knew whoever eventually gave him his first head gig was going to get even more than they realized. And those who he worked for before this year will tell you how special he is. Coach Mitchell at Lumberton has done an amazing job there. And he might be the biggest Coach Rideaux fan.

  20. This loss ended a 58 game (on court) district win streak for Silsbee. I thought Silsbee would finally take a loss in district this year ( thought it would be HJ, still could happen). I still think they are the team in district 22-4A. Next year, well not so much. I think Silsbee will be vulnerable next year but they have the realignment to help them with the loss of HJ and HF. Wasn't at the game last night (was in Tenaha for a good one), but from what I was told, HF simply out played Silsbee and deserved the win. Congrats Tigee and the Longhorn team.

  21. Can we revisit the ridicule that was received when some on this site poked fun when others said HF basketball was hiring a “game changer”? I’ll hang up and listen. Oh and congrats to Coach Rideaux and the Horns! Huge, huge win.

    OneChance,

Nederland has Ava Wiltz, Sidney Nelson and Maggie Baker who are Freshman and are assets to their team. I think Nederland will be battling for third with Port Neches. Even though Port Neches is losing their top scorers, I have seen their JV team play. You will have those girls moving up. Plus Port Neches has one Freshman on Varsity now...right? I think it will be a Mid County Battle for third and fourth place.

  24. Don’t forget to mention how you thought your Coach sucked and he shouldn’t have been hired but now your personally washing his jockstraps. Maybe your school district ought to look into just renting a Coach. It may be more cost effective so Crosby can afford to make it Port Arthur.

  25. As far as I’m concerned, they can start 0-3 if it prepares them for a deep playoff run. Steel sharpens steel.

  26. What makes one think it's not broke? Any playoff system that allows 80% of it's teams to make the playoffs seems broken to me. I'm just wondering why fairness was the big factor in creating divisional districts in football but not considered in doing them in other sports? Travel was certainly not a factor when making those divisional football districts.

  28. Moving a child to a different school to play for a certain coach or with certain players is a sad development. High school athletics are special because the teams are local, but many seem not to care about that. This is not AAU, where you can jump teams monthly. This is not college, where athletes are recruited and choose a school. This is not the NBA, where millionaires refuse to play certain places and select their teammates. This is high school and it is supposed to be the last pure venue for sport. I understand you are likely a proponent of clearing athletes for transfer, but your experience and situation seem to be cut from a much nobler cloth. Let's be real. These move-ins are not leaving United (David Green) and West Brook (Andre Boutte) for the prestige of a guy who's never been a head coach before. This is recruiting and it hasn't been very subtle. I hope that HFISD and the UIL do the right thing here.
