  1. Let's cut to the bone here. The real reason why Arthur was hired was because BISD did not want to let any current assistants go. They told applicants that they could not bring in their own staff. If hired, they had to work with the current assistant coaching staff. Most legit applicants then decided to withdraw their applications leaving BISD only a select few to hire from. I will be curious to see what happens with this hire. Will someone outside be hired and will he be allowed to fill his own staff?

  2. The question that you people who love this game so much are missing is. Why do you think one team is allowed to “stall“? Well I’ll answer it for you. It’s 100% because the opponent refuses to play man to man defense. “Stall ball” would be obsolete without teams sitting in zones. Since we want to outlaw “stall ball” should we outlaw zones as well??? So who do we blame for “stall ball” the offense or the defense? Before you judge someone please become knowledgeable of what you are talking about.

I don't think that its not being taught - every coach I know teaches shooting. it is more about girls in this area don't get in the gym during the off season and work to become great shooters. During the season is not the time for this - it has to be done in the off season. The problem is much deeper than how coaches are teaching or not teaching. I think it has much more to do with what is emphasized by the school, the media, the parents, lil dribbles programs etc. I would bet everyone of the girls mentioned above has put in some serious time in the off-season shooting.

  4. Shouldn't have never been given the opportunity to be the head coach at United in the first place. He didn't have the energy to do the job and that came out of his mouth before he was given the job. But he belonged to THAT church in Beaumont and one thing they do is look out for each other over there. So happy for the kids on my side of the freeway to be moving on from this. Hopefully the AD does what's best for the kids this time around because like i told him in conversation, he failed at that with his last hire. Give our kids the same opportunity as you do the ones on the other side of the freeway...

  6. Not being taught by who? If a high school basketball player is counting on learning how to shoot during the months of Oct-Feb from their school coach.. then they might as well not even worry about it. Junior high coaches can teach form shooting, ball handling, court awareness, pivoting (IMPORTANT), and other things.. but it can't stop when season is over and honestly it should've began long before junior high sports. I hate youth sports but camps are great. Either way, it is impossible to become a good shooter at basketball practice alone.

You know I was gonna say Cooper. I think that Dill can be put in the scorer category if you consider her role on the team. And yes indeed Wilkerson is a BUCKET.

I wasn't implying that it's an excuse you were making, just a bad excuse for anyone to make. Want to shoot better? PUT IN THE TIME/EFFORT necessary. Not just shots. Proper shots. Practice doesn't make perfect practice makes permanent. You have to practice doing the right thing.

  14. Ey, no one danced around this at all. It was stated on here many times that the current coaches will be utilized in matter what and many applicants walked away after being told that. That's why I said BISD didn't handle it right the last time and hope they 'do it right' this go around...

  15. He answered the church part for me and you'd be surprised bro how much influence goes on in Beaumont because of this church. For the 2nd part of your question, nobody in particular. AL didn't even apply for the position but they went and sought him out. They THOUGHT he was the right man for the job. I noticed that a lot of Ozen faithful thought so as well, unlike the Central alumni. There was a list of 70 applicants (meaning people that actually wanted the job), with various amounts of experience from guys that would have been first time head coaches to guys that had won state titles. I feel the majority of the guys on that list could have went 7-13 over the 2 year span but most would have done better and made the playoffs at least one year if not both. I didn't start this topic but I'm glad the AL era is over with...

  16. Well, I decided a few years ago to not rank individual players. Not worth the grief that comes with it. I will leave those things to the experts (aka Jim Hicks, Doug Jones, etc.). I am asked privately all the time to rank players on this site but I refuse to go down that rabbit hole. I will gladly talk to you privately (face to face) and tell you my thoughts on who is in my top 5. Again, I have no problem ranking teams. Players? Heck no!!

  18. Cartwright can put up alot of points to. He has hit the 50 mark a couple of games him self in the past and Martin is just playing beastly... And well Bush is just something special.. Won't be another young man drop 65 on a very good team like Bush did again this year unless its Bush again. That's how good Bray" Bray" Bush is.

  20. United needed more. Yes, he did a good job being a disciplinary type coach and he did improve between his second year, but you can clearly see that the game passed him by. BISD made a bad decision turning away more qualified applicants initially. Hopefully, they do it right this time. I personally don't know Coach Lewis and have never interacted with him, but @Alpha Wolf has and I believe him as far as lack of energy toward our kids. Need someone with the fire, dedication , and energy for this program. No excuse to not being in a decent coach. Facilities are here. Athletes are here. ALso, the Ozen/Central debacle is pretty minimum now. On to off-season football and let's see how this pans out...

  22. I love fast paced basketball as much as the next guy and am definitely a fan of the shot clock. But it would be really difficult to implement at the HS level and would take some competitiveness out if it. We never would have had the true story behind Hoosiers without it, for example. The bigger problem is a practical one. Every game would require another official likely to run it. They aren’t as easy to run as you might think and games with volunteers running it invariably require multiple game stoppages to get it right. Add to that expense the expense for all schools to have them installed and the argument goes way beyond a philosophical one.

  24. The way he scores the ball (and it’s not exactly against cupcakes by the way) is incredible. The fact that he does it at his size (and almost always against the opponent’s top defender) is almost unbelievable.

  25. If your avg 30 + that’s dang good. That’s saying you are the focal point on your team. The other coach’s are game planning for that kid. Never seen a coach game plan for a kid avg 5 points a game.

  30. I blame the offense. Good coaches teach their teams how to play against multiple styles of play. A team sitting in zone is no less playing basketball than a team in man. Holding the ball for quarters at a time isn't playing at all and it's non-competitive. Saying that we're not good enough to score against zone so we're not even going to try sends the wrong message. Especially in preseason/tournament games when you should be working on this stuff. However, I think there are situations where it's wise like holding the ball for the last shot of the quarter. I also like how Lincoln used to do it. They'd hold it, draw the defense out, and then carve it up. None of this dribble in and dribble back out crap. Compete!

  31. I agree. Most times the "holding the ball" is to draw the defense out of a zone. I simply see it as an offensive strategy. Nothing wrong with that.

2 things here. I've seen shooter with my own eyes that took like 10 3's and might be missed 1. Mailyn Wilkerson from Summer Creek gets buckets in her sleep. 2nd thing here is I don't think Cam is our best 3pt shooter. she can ahoot, yea, but I'm leaning more toward Cooper, Anderson, or Boudreaux as far as the 3 ball goes.
