Truth is folks and this may sound harsh, but the Yates fan base is not really USED to winning in basketball..They were a football power for many years and had that same "swag" about their football program back in the day...This does not excuse inappropriate behaviors by any means, but its still kind of "new" to them...HJ fans have been used to winning basketball, and have a tendancy to be less cocky about their teams success...This has become their time to "shine" over the last few years and they are doing just that..Doesn't make it right, but its one of the major reasons they do it...They can't act like they have been there before, because before a few years ago...They really hadn't. ;)
I was on a college team that won our conference tourney and made it to the big dance,  but i didnt act inappropriate nor did my teammates or fans and that was the first time our university won the tournement in 17 years.  WINNING OR LOSING should not dictate how you act as a human.
From a FAN perspective, though, not a player or coach....Fans have NO REAL boundaries, really...We both know how they are SUPPOSED to act, but it does not always happen like that, especially when they are not USED to winning like they are..

EVERYONE has fans that say inappropriate things....I've sat next to Yates fans and their confident in their team. Yes they talk trash I would too if my team was good...but they don't take it any further than that. They are very polite they just love their Yates bball that's all...You act like Silsbee isnt as bad Yates fans nor the players or even worse...I coached in the summer league and Silsbee players tried to fight Ozen players after the game....so kill that let the kids compete and settle it on the court..you adults need to fall back cause your the ones fueling this nonsense....
When HJ played Coldspring (immediately following the HJ-Yates girls game) several Yates fans were leaving while the boys game was in its final few minutes.  As they "disrespectfully" walked in front of the HJ bench (yes, with the game still going) they began telling the HJ players on that bench how much trouble they were going to be in when they played Yates.  One of the HJ coaches got up and told them to go on and get away from the bench and he was promptly told by one of those(who never "takes it any further than that") what to do with himself.  Saw this same "gentleman" at the boys game last Thursday.  Sorry, but this type of "enthusiasm" and/or "passion" is not justifiable or acceptable under any circumstance.
Not justifying anything one particular person or group does, but don't act like these types of over the top fans don't exist ..I was merely saying the majority of fans don't act that way...and that goes for fans of any high school team...you have good ones and bad ones..

Saw this tweet today from Beaumont Enterprise sports writer Jared Ainsworth:

Jared Ainsworth ‏@JaredAinsworth

I spoke to Silsbee coach Joe Sigler today on the Yates game. He said "We
respect everybody but we don’t have a fear of anybody."
I've said this from the beging Silsbee fears no one I'm from Silsbee grew up there played football an basketball all my years went on the play college with that same Silsbee mentality I fear no one in any aspect sports/life that's what we're taught

You really have to teams with the sane mind frame "Im better than anybody"

Both Yates an Silsbee have certain swagger about them you gotta love a confident team

Wow, funny.  Were you at the HJ and Coldspring game?  Were you there when the police had to come and escort a group of HJ fans who were sitting on the Coldspring side and they were about to fight?  Yeah, you know the ones that know how to act.  Were you there?

Yates had an option to remain 4A, a number of schools that were a few students short of being 4A opted to stay in that classification. ;)
Good for those schools, but as far as Yates and re-alignment i think the answer and reasoning has been put out there already from people that is actually in the know.  ;)

i will go back to the topic.

Yates 99
Silsbee 71

Ironic point margin there 86hawk.
i just realized it was the same margin.  I expect the game to be lower scoring with a little more defense.  I would like to see Silsbee play defense and see what the Yates offense can or can not do.  The majority of the HJ/Yates game scoring for Yates was on fast breaks and out numbered defenders.  I still think the height difference will be hard to overcome.  Hopefully Silsbee does not run out of gas.

I dont recall claiming to know the ones that know how to act.  Yes, I was there.  I did not see what you are describing.  Were you sitting close enough to know how what you are describing began?  If so, let me know.  None of this alters what I saw.  Two opposing fans mouthing is one thing- A spectator trash talking to players on the bench DURING THE GAME and then telling the coach "what to do with himself" is QUITE ANOTHER.  Nice try but there is no way to justify what I saw.

Just saw some highlights here in Houston of Yates vs HJ.. Yates was doing windmill, 360's,, andsome wild alley opps. They seem to try to dunk on every drive to the hoop. Foul them and make them shoot free throws!
There were NO 360's!!!!

HJ did foul them and Yates hit 19 of 25 for 76%.

Silsbee.  198

Yates.  196

Maybe a bit high but I would not be surprised if both teams hit the century mark. ;)
I know you"think" you are the absolute guru on basketball, but Yates will not beat Silsbee by 30.

It will be closer than some of you think.

Silsbee just might play a great game and beat Yates. It will be a tall order but hopefully Silsbee can get it done.
