Goodman out at Navasota

Is it me?  Or did anybody else hear laughter coming out of somewhere in the College Station ISD?

I think you can spin many ways; but, Fedora is where he always wanted to be, back at A&M Consolidated.

In my opinion, Goodman was handed the job probably at the recommendation of Fedora. The same thing happened when Goodman was promoted to the head basketball job without any real prior head coaching experience. He was not a good fit. It was a slap in the face for many of Rattler Naton when the district didn’t put much “effort” in hiring of a more qualified coach. After wining two championship in three years and 7-8 consecutive years of making at least the quarterfinals, Navasota deserved better.

I know some good coaches who will be applying. Hopefully we’ll be back playing late November early December football very soon.

D'oh!

Be careful what you wish for.  The downside is that it might be a little tougher to lure in a top candidate after the way that the board treated Fedora.  I mean, if they'll run off a coach with Fedora's after such immense success, it just seems like a really hard place to be successful whether you win or not.

I chuckle every time someone mentions running off Fedora.

Fedora had one more year on his contract. Meanwhile, other educators’ contracts were ending at the end of the school year. Was it wrong to handle the more pressing contracts?

Meanwhile, I get it. Fedora was successful... Could the school board have handled the situation differently? Probably.

Again, Fedora is where he always wanted to be.

Because of those circumstances this will become a stepping stone job instead of a destination job.

Yes, but it should have been a rubber stamp on Fedora based on the success he had there.

Jerry Jones said it best when he said that "500 guys could coach this team to a super bowl."  Then he fired Jimmie Johnson and the rest is history.  Uneventful history.

Not only did the Rattlers lose a proven championship coach, they have probably poisoned the well as far as attracting another coach of Fedora's caliber.

Um, then he prooved himself correct when Barry Switzer got a Super Bowl ring while woofing down hot dogs on the sidelines!

At least Navasota school board is in pursuit of getting back to finding a winning coach. I wish other school boards would take notice.

Great question. Heck we're keeping a coach that's racked up 7 total wins his first 2 seasons and broke a 20 year playoff streak. He did continue his streak of not making the playoffs this year though and followed up a 4 win season last year with 3 wins this year. Dude from Navasota must not know the right people.

Yeah I hear ya. I’m pretty sure our coach is under 500 but he’s 4th highest paid in the area.

    • We all know that each state has its own laws which can be very different, especially in endeavors like annexation or incorporation, so there is no telling what Louisiana law says. I don’t know but I doubt that there is a point of appeal for Baton Rouge to force St. George to be absorbed back into Baton Rouge by now giving them what they asked for years ago. “Oh, we lost? Well let’s just undo incorporation, ruled as legal by the Supreme Court (of LA)  by going back and giving them what they asked for”. There has to be a law allowing such an appeal. I think what I read about the lower court decisions which actually backed up Baton Rouge, they did not all rule that incorporation was illegal but that they did not think the city could have services up and running soon enough. So you have a court saying that sure you can split but only if we agree that you can provide services get enough. In Louisiana, who knows? I doubt that Texas has such a mechanism to allow a city to split, for example, could the west end of Beaumont say that they wish to make their own city against Beaumont’s objection? I doubt it. Certainly Beaumont could allow a city to be created as Port Arthur did with Bridge City and Taylor’s Landing. There is a huge difference in allowing and forcing which is what happened in Baton Rouge. Similar to the sometime discussed topic of Texas splitting off from the United States because they don’t like the way things are going, think if citizens in any city in the United States were allowed to create their own city, which could not be stopped by the parent city.  That could get interesting!! Don't like what is happening in the south side of Chicago? Just de-annex and create your own city!! Anyway, I thought that it is an interesting story when the capital city splits in half.
    • Wasn't that 1st round loss last year? Also, during those previous 10 years I am pretty sure Jasper didn't go 2-58 in district play in the other 5 sports.
    • Ma'am, I don't think he said all Muslims were like that. If I'm reading this right, he's referencing the terrorist Muslims. You know, the ones who commit murder & have no regard for anyone who doesn't follow their jihadist beliefs...
    • Great playoff run, no doubt.  They did make the 3rd round(1 less) 4 of the previous 10 years, only one first round loss. 6 district championships and 4 second place.  The only 4 years Carthage was in the same district. So no, I'm not sure it does make sense.
