Ty Cobb reacted to CS Baseball in Silsbee vs College Station
Silsbee92,
I know you know this, but for those of your fans that you are trying to rally around your team by making them out to be an underdog, College Station is moving from 3A to 5A in name only. Next year's 5A is just renamed from what today is know as 4A. And they are moving up because there will be four individual classes from Freshmen through Senior next year.
Regarding strength of schedule, College Station played the toughest schedule in 3A baseball this year, and it has prepared them well.
Your kids have had a great year. And College Station will not be looking past them.
I expect the game to be very competitive. Good luck to your kids.

Ty Cobb reacted to mat in Home invasions
There's a difference between a home invasion and breaking and entering. Punks these days are coming through the front door and beating the crap out of the elderly.

Ty Cobb reacted to Gabe in 2014 All-KOGT Baseball Team
For the first time in over a decade im not in charge of putting together one of these teams so let me explain how i at least went about it.
First off alot of my picks were done by the eye test. You can show me a kid hit .450 but if i watched him and another player at the same position all year i could still go with another selection due to just liking how the second guy played the game and what he meant to his team. Stats show a lot but they arent everything.
Second there is not a care to me what level a kids team plays in. Mainly because the kid certainly has no say in that. I do though look at this for example (and im making this example up just to show it better) say a batter only bats .300 but was in a tough district loaded with future college pitchers is in running for mvp against a guy who hit .425 in a very weak district. Then i look at other varibles and the first could easily be my pick.
I never cared about all district picks when making my teams. Some of these all district team selections are made with agendas. I tried like i said to put who i thought were best players together. That being said, i could have been wrong but it was my thoughts. And i never made excuses for.my teams. I figure i watched enough games each year to have enough knowledge to select an honor team. Does it make it perfect? Nope
I stuck to only one selection at each position. This made it easy and if i selected 4 first team pitchers instead of just the 1 then criticism and fairness could come into play.
So basically i went with my gut, let stats only be a guide, kept it simple and didnt apologize for giving an opinion since i was paid to do so. There were plenty of times i hated to leave a kid off but in the end there cant be a ribbon for everyone and to my knowledge kids left off do not suffer any illnesses or lose scholarships.
As for as MVPs i always first go to the district champion. If that team has a clear cut stud on their team i pick them. He was best player on best team. If no clear stud on title team then i might look around and find who was best player around but 95% of time it was best teams best player
Gary does a great job so when i saw that list i know he put it out with at least knowing what hes talking about.
Sorry so long on basically nothing lol. Just giving my thoughts -
Ty Cobb reacted to westend1 in we use to....
I do appreciate you making this thread. Anything is better than another thread on race, gays or Obama

Ty Cobb reacted to camsdad in Hull-Daisetta Bobcats AD/HC Finney to Step Down!
So those goals are suspended up in the raptors? Is that some type of dinosaur left over from when the gym was built? -
Ty Cobb got a reaction from Ultimatefan in All District picks
There are way too many all-district selections in every district!!!

20 years from now: A man and some "ole buddies", along with their sons, sitting around the camp reliving the ole glory days........
Dad - Son you need to work hard, put in the hours, like we did and you can achieve success.
Son - I want to set some goals to work for...... What is something I can work toward at the high school level?
Dad - First you can set your sights on being the best you can be...... You can set a goal to make the "All District Team" like I did in High School....
Dad's "ole buddy" - Yeah just like every other player in our district!!!!!
Ended that conversation very quickly....... Now they just sit the rest of the evening ribbing each other about how bad each of them ACTUALLY were..... By the way, dad was the H2O boy!!!!!
LOL, everybody wins!!!!

Ty Cobb reacted to bullets13 in Condoms for Prisoners?
it would be safer to assume that i feel we treat criminals way too easily in our system. I guess in our current system, i don't care much one way or another about the condoms. might as well sell them at the commisary. But i'd much rather see prisoners go to prison and hate it so much that they'd never risk going back. I think we give them too many liberties. I'm not talking about letting guards abuse them, but allowing prisoners to have creature comforts, time to play games, work out, etc... it just doesn't seem like near the deterent it could be. -
Ty Cobb reacted to AHUDDLESTON in Overuse of young pitchers fueling MLBs "Tommy John" surgery problems
I like what I have been hearing from the big time pitchers.( Nolan Ryan) They believe that the biggest problem is a pitch count that babies the pitchers.

Ty Cobb reacted to Peppermint Patty in Overuse of young pitchers fueling MLBs "Tommy John" surgery problems
Select baseball provides an easy target. I would bet that Nolan Ryan pithced more innings in his career that most of these young pitchers do today. It was not uncommon for a pitcher to throw both ends of a double header way back when,
It's more about conditioning and proper mechanics.

Ty Cobb reacted to AledoBearcatsCO2014 in Congrats to Micheal Sam
I think it's funny that you are praised as a hero for being gay(Michael Sam) and constantly bashed for being a Christian(Tebow).
-
Ty Cobb reacted to LumRaiderFan in Congrats to Micheal Sam
I agree, it is sad...we are to celebrate that a player with an openly sinful lifestyle is drafted.
Wonder why they aren't finding who the most prolific adulterer is and hold them up in such high esteem?
-
Ty Cobb reacted to AledoBearcatsCO2014 in Congrats to Micheal Sam
It's sad we live in a world where someone sells more jerseys than anyone else because they're gay, and not because they are a good football player.
-
Ty Cobb reacted to LumRaiderFan in Congrats to Micheal Sam
I agree about the media pushing this..most sportcasters are no different than most other journalists/commentators and are part of the liberal media, for example Keith Olberman and Bob Costas.
ESPN was wrong to show this kiss...kids have no reason to be exposed and it was irresponsible on their part...but no accident.

Ty Cobb got a reaction from Ultimatefan in NFL draft, why???
So his coverage has to do with his sexuality, not his ability to play football? Then give him a reality show and keep his sexuality out of sports. There's too much of this crap on TV these days the way it is. The last thing the world needs is to see it during sporting events!!! -
Ty Cobb reacted to Sports10 in NFL draft, why???
Sam's sexual orientation is not even in the same class as not being allowed to play because of race. He is not the first gay football player and as far as first openly gay football player, who cares. I don't want to know, the other draft picks didn't announce that they were straight. If he's gay, he's gay, no need to tell the world, quit making such a big deal about your personal life. My beliefs don't agree with it nor do I chastise him for it, I'm just sick of having it shoved in my face everywhere you turn. -

Ty Cobb reacted to Baba Ganoush in NFL draft, why???
That is reaching. Jackie Robinson could play. Happened to be during a bad time in America. Michael Sam? Probably drafted because of his announcement. Small chance to be on the roster come regular season. Maybe find a different analogy -

Ty Cobb reacted to baddog in NFL draft, why???
Lots of players will be uncomfortable come shower time. Maybe he could be a cheerleader for Adam Sandler in "The Longest Yard". -
Ty Cobb reacted to mustang in Would this ever happen in football?
This is total selfishness on those girls/parents part. A "me first" mentality. Great leadership for them to exhibit to the younger players.... Not! They could have booked the trip at a later date. If I were the coach I would consider them quitters and not honor them at the athletic banquet nor put any of them up for all district. -
-
Ty Cobb got a reaction from Englebert in Would this ever happen in football?
Very selfish by the players. In my day, they would all take a good old butt kicking when they got back. Actually, this would not happen in my day. -
Ty Cobb reacted to Peppermint Patty in David Suggs just named HC at Ozen!!!
The
The game does not "pass you by". You can either coach or you can't. The problem often times is not on the field, its what happens at home and around the table that keeps coaches from being successful.
