At least they have two job titles. lol. Coaches work their butts off, they deserve every penny.
And "Teachers" don't? First, I don't believe the head football coach should have the AD title. They have that so they can pay them more. I think the AD should be a separate job (as in the bigger districts) I think a football coach as the AD is a conflict of interest. Now...my coaching friends aren't going to like me much for this approach, and even less when I say...maybe they shouldn't be paid at all. Many "select" coaches put as much time or MORE into the sport they love without any compensation...pay, expenses, etc. because they love kids, and love teaching the sport. After all, school (learning) should be the first priority, and the notion of "well without sports, some kids wouldn't stay in school" or "sports is the only thing that gives some kids the opportunity to move on" just don't cut it. My kid is on athletic scholarship....but SHE also is an honor grad....she didn't DEPEND on her athletic abilities to advance to the next level....it's just a past time.... and NO, players should NOT, under any circumstance be paid
So instead of paying 1 guy lets say $65k a year to do a HC Football and AD job... you would rather smaller schools pay a HC $50k and then pay an AD $55k a year to be AD? so if one guy does it its a total of $65k and if two guys $105K.... which one would you rather have to pay for as an ISD... do you think the taxpayers of that district would rather 1 guy and extra money for different things throughout the district... or take away from other programs to pay 2?
Classroom teachers don't make $55K and $65K at these smaller schools....besides, where do you get these numbers...there isn't a AD/HC making as little as $65K in the state. "Now...my coaching friends aren't going to like me much for this approach, and even less when I say...maybe they shouldn't be paid at all. " ^^^^ or this! There isn't a bigger sports fan in the world than me.....there isn't a person in the world who like winning more than me....but the cost of HS sports is crazy! And this is just an argumentative subject....HS sports, ESPECIALLY FOOTBALL isn't going anywhere...neither is the cost...in fact...I agree with an earlier poster...it's only gonna get more expensive as the years pass.
What other high school sport brings so many paying fans to a game?  Even high school football is big business (relatively) for many ISD's.  The sport may get more expensive as was pointed out, but I must believe the revenue justifies the expense.  No one is losing money.
I promise you the revenues do not offset the budget expenses in MOST school districts. So yes they (sports) are a tax funded privilege to high school kids
 3.
Coach Scott Carter to PNG. 400+ career win, 200+ wins in 9 years as Sweeny head coach.Undefeated district champions in 2011,2012 and 2013. State tournament appearance in 2012. Carter was reassigned in Sweeny by new athletic director so as most coaches would do started looking to relocate. He was chosen Brazoria County Coach of the Year. (on a sde note) Carter also has a daughter that was an all conference softball player at Lamar University so it sounds like PNG is a great fit for him and his family.
Why on earth would any athletic director reassign a coach with that resume?????  Just doesn't make sense....  They lost in second round this year to a good Bridge City team.

The roster is available on the TASO web site ]
I think you could have found better way of saying this or left it unsaid all together.
Why?
Must be coaches that didn't nominate some players.......
 5. Coach Nelson isn't going anywhere!!  And money does talk to a lot of people but it isn't what is important to Michael Nelson.  He is HOME, and that makes up for a lot!
 6.
I'm not naming names but saying in addition to several likely spots on the 21-3A all-district team there is also someone from Silsbee on the all-district 20-4A First team! So as you can see there is a lot of baseball talent in the town of Silsbee.
No surprise there..... didn't everyone that played in 20-4A make all-district! LOL JK, Caleb is a good kid and a good ball player.  But lets be careful about making statements that he is the best player that lives in Silsbee and plays somewhere else. The statement that he will move back to Silsbee next year is false..... His dad has given him the choice..... and right now Caleb has indicated that he wants to finish where he started..... Ozen. If he choses to come back to Silsbee we will welcome him with open arms!

Orangefield doesnt have that 1 dominant pitcher. I bet they want a 3 game series..IMO..
Totally agree. Don't think they can beat Powell but may have a chance against the other two. IMO
I agree, they lit up Hartman earlier in the year
Please also note when "they lit up Hartman earlier in the year" that Hartman was hurt..... He was having shoulder problems and that was a huge reason why he wasn't effective....
