At least they have two job titles. lol. Coaches work their butts off, they deserve every penny.
And "Teachers" don't? First, I don't believe the head football coach should have the AD title. They have that so they can pay them more. I think the AD should be a separate job (as in the bigger districts) I think a football coach as the AD is a conflict of interest. Now...my coaching friends aren't going to like me much for this approach, and even less when I say...maybe they shouldn't be paid at all. Many "select" coaches put as much time or MORE into the sport they love without any compensation...pay, expenses, etc. because they love kids, and love teaching the sport. After all, school (learning) should be the first priority, and the notion of "well without sports, some kids wouldn't stay in school" or "sports is the only thing that gives some kids the opportunity to move on" just don't cut it. My kid is on athletic scholarship....but SHE also is an honor grad....she didn't DEPEND on her athletic abilities to advance to the next level....it's just a past time.... and NO, players should NOT, under any circumstance be paid
So instead of paying 1 guy lets say $65k a year to do a HC Football and AD job... you would rather smaller schools pay a HC $50k and then pay an AD $55k a year to be AD? so if one guy does it its a total of $65k and if two guys $105K.... which one would you rather have to pay for as an ISD... do you think the taxpayers of that district would rather 1 guy and extra money for different things throughout the district... or take away from other programs to pay 2?
Classroom teachers don't make $55K and $65K at these smaller schools....besides, where do you get these numbers...there isn't a AD/HC making as little as $65K in the state. "Now...my coaching friends aren't going to like me much for this approach, and even less when I say...maybe they shouldn't be paid at all. " ^^^^ or this! There isn't a bigger sports fan in the world than me.....there isn't a person in the world who like winning more than me....but the cost of HS sports is crazy! And this is just an argumentative subject....HS sports, ESPECIALLY FOOTBALL isn't going anywhere...neither is the cost...in fact...I agree with an earlier poster...it's only gonna get more expensive as the years pass.
What other high school sport brings so many paying fans to a game?  Even high school football is big business (relatively) for many ISD's.  The sport may get more expensive as was pointed out, but I must believe the revenue justifies the expense.  No one is losing money.
I promise you the revenues do not offset the budget expenses in MOST school districts. So yes they (sports) are a tax funded privilege to high school kids
 3.
Coach Scott Carter to PNG. 400+ career win, 200+ wins in 9 years as Sweeny head coach.Undefeated district champions in 2011,2012 and 2013. State tournament appearance in 2012. Carter was reassigned in Sweeny by new athletic director so as most coaches would do started looking to relocate. He was chosen Brazoria County Coach of the Year. (on a sde note) Carter also has a daughter that was an all conference softball player at Lamar University so it sounds like PNG is a great fit for him and his family.
Why on earth would any athletic director reassign a coach with that resume?????  Just doesn't make sense....  They lost in second round this year to a good Bridge City team.
Must be coaches that didn't nominate some players.......
 5. Coach Nelson isn't going anywhere!!  And money does talk to a lot of people but it isn't what is important to Michael Nelson.  He is HOME, and that makes up for a lot!
 6.
I'm not naming names but saying in addition to several likely spots on the 21-3A all-district team there is also someone from Silsbee on the all-district 20-4A First team! So as you can see there is a lot of baseball talent in the town of Silsbee.
No surprise there..... didn't everyone that played in 20-4A make all-district! LOL JK, Caleb is a good kid and a good ball player.  But lets be careful about making statements that he is the best player that lives in Silsbee and plays somewhere else. The statement that he will move back to Silsbee next year is false..... His dad has given him the choice..... and right now Caleb has indicated that he wants to finish where he started..... Ozen. If he choses to come back to Silsbee we will welcome him with open arms!

Orangefield doesnt have that 1 dominant pitcher. I bet they want a 3 game series..IMO..
Totally agree. Don't think they can beat Powell but may have a chance against the other two. IMO
I agree, they lit up Hartman earlier in the year
Please also note when "they lit up Hartman earlier in the year" that Hartman was hurt..... He was having shoulder problems and that was a huge reason why he wasn't effective....

 14.
The last game between BH and Dayton, we threw a total of 5 pitchers. Getting some work in.
Actually in the first game BH threw Hallen a complete game shutout of the Broncos, then in the second game Thames started and went 3, then it was 5 other pitchers to finish the game for a total of 6 pitchers in the second game.
I'm not saying they don't have it, but those two brothers for Shepherd can throw One game doesn't benefit BC, that's for sure Once again, I believe BC definitely has a chance, but a one game set definitely helps Shepherd
I believe this to be a run rule in favor of the CARDS!  I mean you guys lost to Liberty in district......
 16.
I am going to say OF in 2.... I believe that 21-3A brings wins back in first round by both teams.  Trawhon will get it done in 2!  BC gets it done in 1!

Games are at Vidor and Kingwood High. For a 5A facility, not too impressed with Kingwood High's ballpark.
I hear ya.... Wasn't impressed with WestBrook's field either.  Silsbee has the best facility in the area and it would make a great neutral spot.
+1 Critter, Thank you!
 19. I think the first two where a little bit better. Both of the first two games could have gone either way. In BC Silsbee controlling the early part of the first game then BC fighting back to send it to extra innings and pulling it out at the end. THEN in Silsbee BC controlling the early part of the second game then Silsbee fighting back to seal it in the end. Those two where awesome games. This third game Silsbee controlled from start to finish, pulling away in the end. It was a good game. Silsbee with a District Championship and a #1 seed. Way to go Tigers, congrats and good luck. Go Tigers!!!
Great series this year, 2-2. Enjoyable games for sure. Rake1
Rake, It was a good series this year.....and definitely enjoyable games.  But just between you and I, Silsbee 2-1 when it counted THIS YEAR....LOL
Classless!! Are you friggin serious, thats like the pot calling the kettle black..Go back to your HJ topic about how well HJ will do in the baseball playoffs... My bad there is not one. ;D Good luck to BC y'all will rep 21 3A well
+1
 21.
Nobody in 21-3A plays tomorrow that I know of? A month ago all the teams had their games moved in preparation of the testing, put them on their schedule, and then last week one of the games got moved. I was just wondering if their was some sort of rule or stipulation that had to be followed? Or did the teams that moved do it on their own? Rake1
FROM UIL WEBSITE: *Notes on STAAR testing • If any student in the school is taking any test at any time that day, no playoff game can be scheduled Monday through Thursday, as required by state law. • Once testing is complete for the week, teams may schedule playoff games beginning the following day, provided they remain in compliance with UIL rules for scheduling playoff games. • On Friday, when there are timed tests that end at a time certain, with school approval teams could travel no earlier than 30 minutes after the scheduled end of tests on Friday. • If any test for any student on a team involved in a post-season contest occurs on Friday and is an untimed test, travel for that team is not permitted until the end of the school day. • If there are conflicts between a playoff series and the state track meet, it is recommended (but not required) that schools schedule only a one game series.
 22.
Just curious as to why some teams in 21-3A had to reschedule their games and others did not? The coaches were made aware of the test schedule and adjusted their game schedules accordingly. Just wondering why some teams had to move while others stayed with their schedule from a month ago? Rake1
Every team in the state was supposed to reschedule, the choices were start time today no later than 5:00 pm or Thursday......  Who is keeping a Tuesday night scheduled game????
