Aww I though wos fans would react better than this. This is disappointing.

Yall are always on the top of the mountain, and so what you got knocked off. Get back up! It isn't like people didn't see this coming, all week people have said this isn't the same wos team.

Because of that adjustments have to be made to tailor to the talent you have, and yall literally have the best coach on the area and maybe state to do that.

No reason to be whining. One L in like 5 years. Just come back with a better plan.

Don't lump all WO-S fans into that thinking. Nederland has always been a good match up for us. I stated earlier this game would be decided by a small point margin. You can't get smaller than one point. Too many WO-S fans have been spoiled. Some of our followers can't appreciate the process of developing a young team into a district winner and serious playoff contender. No matter how good your program and regardless of past success, any team can find themselves in the position where WO-S is right now. Our development stages are behind the normal timelines because most of these guys are playing varsity for the first time. WO-S's roster is loaded with sophomores and juniors. They need more time to get to where they want to be. I believe this includes that the coaches are still deciding on players and their positions. We're also missing our best player. Fans need to be patient. All in all, WO-S showed progress since the Vidor scrimmage. Nederland won the game and there is no shame in that. Congratulations Bulldogs. See you again next year.

Wos newton Carthage north shore and Katy I'm firing all those bullets into December, see this same kinda talk was last year about wos after the 2016 team and they went right back too the state championship I watch the very first practice last year and said this will be another 3 yr run for the tittle. 2 more to go. And for the record even wos will not lose a game, THAT'S RIGHT! I SAID IT NO HOWARD THE COWARD HERE, you dont have to go undefeated to win it all but I don't see a threat.

To say WO-S might (or even WILL) lose a game is not being a coward. Guaranteeing a win in every game is nuts. There are always a few fans who don't give the right amount of respect for opponents. They are the ones who will 1) make crazy and excessive excuses when they lose and 2) talk down about the winning team when they should be congratulating them. Did you watch the Vidor scrimmage? This Mustang team is YOUNG and not as far along as previous teams at this point heading into week #1. We have only three returning starters on offense and three on defense. Come down to earth and realize we have some work to do in preparing this team right now. A little appreciation for the development process is called for.

District is not a concern for teams like that championship or bust

OK, then why are you even reading this thread? If district means nothing, then pre-district, playoffs, and obviously scrimmages are a waste of time, too. Check back in mid-December to see if we made it to AT&T that you take for granted. After all, the journey to get there means nothing and you have your room reservation in Dallas, right? For the rest of us, we'll enjoy football SEASON with the Mustangs and assume nothing. Our young team has much work to do.

  4. Yes, I'm more than content to wait on the regular season. Any comparison to Golden State is silly. Everybody already knows the Warriors are the best in the NBA before the season starts. WO-S is not a lock to get the trophy and still has much work to do despite the DCTF #1 ranking. If this was the 2016 WO-S team, then I would share your assurance. This is the 2018 team with several question marks. The entire journey is what makes a season and no trip to Dallas is guaranteed. Also, nothing I said is "hyped up". When someone says they are booking their rooms in Dallas...THAT is hype. I have too much respect for our opponents and all the work ahead for our coaches and players to assume the ultimate prize. If we don't win it all, you will be full of blame and excuses. I won't. Instead I will remember this conversation and remind you not to assume so much. Try to enjoy the journey. The finish line is too far off in the distance to see right now.

  5. It's interesting how zero WO-S fans have joined this discussion. It's a yawner.

To the few Silsbee folks and the one "East Texas is superior" contributor who want to pat themselves on the back for finding a phantom "one-ups-manship" over WO-S...carry on. It's mildly entertaining.

    Symptoms of summertime boredom.

I am saying that I could care less if we ever play WOS ever even if we were the IMG of football. Play Orangefield, LCM , Bridge City, Silsbee and Jasper. IDC

Lol...you lost the sarcasm in my comment, but that's OK. Playing Newton would be good competition for both teams, but it won't bother me at all if we don't play Newton. W.T could have handled this better.

    Has Newton tried calling KIPP?

Newton felt like they were going to be good the next couple of years and that it was going to be hard to find games so they started trying to fill this schedule in october. if you don't believe it , check friday night heroes . co and smoaky . com. We aren't stupid about playing some schools and there is no school in SETX that would play John Curtis or Evangel. There are a lot of schools that I would prefer  Newton playing than WOS just because of what has been said on the thread about people running scared of Newton. The problem with some internet warriors is they let their fingers do the talking and have no accountability for it .(.i said some ,not all ) Again I hope we don't play WOS for at least 10 years. just find someone else.JMO

So...you're saying that Newton will have another super good team again in 11 years? And then it will be OK to schedule WO-S again? OK...lol.

Source: Newton Football Coach (I will not state who)

I am by no means saying that these teams are scared to play Newton, but this is 100% factual. Newton's head coach, W.T. Johnston, tried to schedule games with Gilmer, Carthage and West Orange Stark TODAY, and all three teams said no! W.T. has tried to schedule a game with West Orange Stark and Jasper for the last month and he has tried several of times. Just in today, WOS stated that they needed a week 4 & 5 game and Newton tried to schedule and they wouldn't.

Woodville had to drop their game with Newton. W.T. has tried to schedule games all the way up to Brock and Rockdale, which both have declined.

So far, it is Kirbyville in week one and Silsbee in week two.

I received all of this information from a coach today.

    Thanks,

You gotta lot of negative nerve posting this. WT said he did not want to play WO-S when Jack Dallas was there, but now he's itching to play? How much is your commission check for peddling this "story"? Amateur journalism at its finest. WO-S knows all too well the difficulty of scheduling teams in non-district. WT should have stayed on the schedule when he easily could have. It's no surprise if Coach Thompson says no this time. Good for him. Playing WO-S when you have the convenience of being competitive and declining to play outside of that is not how this works. BTW...WO-S has weeks 4 and 5 filled. Only week 3 is open.

Anyone else thinks WOS is gonna make a furious comeback in 2018

The year we lost to Gilmer added even more fire to the drive for winning another one - among the players. We have two good QBs making their way through the varsity ranks, as well as several play makers who are underclassmen. The future looks good. The work starts in two weeks.

  10. It's never easy to take a loss this far into the season, but when it's obvious the opposing team outplayed you, the inevitable reaction is to tip your hat and acknowledge the better team won.

You could take the time to dissect this game and look at ways that WO-S could have made the game closer or even won it. It was a winnable game, but ONLY if we would have played mistake-free football. For example - 1) overthrown passes in the first half (at least one would have been a TD); 2) play calling to include WR screens and more runs to the strong side and less between the tackles; 3) stopping PG from converting so many third downs; 4) penalties that cost WO-S a TD, a big 4th down conversion (fake punt), and long yardage situations; 5) blown coverage on PG's first play from scrimmage; 6) three turnovers (two pick 6's late)...those are some that I noticed. But, in the end PG earned the victory because they EXECUTED their offense and defense better than WO-S did.

This year's version of WO-S football had a smaller margin for error, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We were able to make it this far despite that, but yesterday we ran into a team who was good enough to make us pay for it. It's also worth noting that PG had zero turnovers. I am a WO-S Mustang for life, but today was Pleasant Grove's day. Congratulations to the Hawks on earning your first state championship.

The reason I have not posted any on this game is because I didn't want to step on any toes. You guys love the Stangs and I get that. I don't have a dog in the hunt. I am not one those "pull for my district mates". I don't care either way. I like dynasties and I like underdogs, but I don't like PG.

That being said, this will be IMO the most formidable opponent WOS has faced since 2014 Gilmer. I am not saying they are going to win......but they are good, dang good.

At this point I'm just an outsider hoping for a damn good game. I like to be entertained!!!

Wear some blue and silver and come sit with us. This time, you will be on the correct side. :)

I don't think Coach T sticks around much longer.  He's getting into his golden years, and it's no secret that his welcome has worn thin with a lot of the Mustang faithful.

You've made many good points until this little bone was thrown out there. In any community, there will always be malcontents who are never happy. If you are saying WO-S has a FEW of those just like every other school, you are correct. If you're saying WO-S is loaded up with people like that, you are mistaken.
