If he won't come and draw up some simple ball or recognize some ball when I draw it on the white board, he should be banned from ever talking about football publicly ever again 🤣

I can't even get him to explain to me why Bill Belichick is sub .500 without Tom Brady.. or hasn't won a playoff game since Brady left NE.

Or why some is his elite coaches (by his definition) didn't win another state title after reaching elite status (according to his definition).

So.. again.  You're wasting your time.  Might as well just let him believe that any coach could go to any team and win it all eventually.  Wait.. I think 7 years is his timeframe.

When I make those statements, they're about you bro... and the others who clearly do not. They're not about the people who actually understand it takes more than just a good coach to win. Culture & talent are the 2 most important factors. Coaches can develop culture, but it takes a village. Don't forget - high school football coaches are TEACHERS first. They are the ones spending every day with TEENAGERS and trying to get the best out of them. If you've never spent time as a TEACHER and a COACH, then you will NEVER really and fully understand the many nuances and dynamics of high school athletics.

You're wasting your time trying to convince him of this.  I've tried time and time again.

    #16 vs #3 is a big jump.

That would be true if rankings were an accurate measuring stick to how teams can/will actually do.  But it never matters as much as most think.

I'm not suggesting that this will turn out better/worse despite/because of said rankings for either team.. just that rankings matter very little at times.  Rankings of teenage kids matter even less.

Relax...relax. I know it's not a real issue. I never said you said it was. I'm wondering if it's even a potential issue...

It's speculation at best right now.  I just think it'd be hilarious if several of the schools opted up.  Not just Liberty/HJ.

What about the Districts? Some schools are 100+ miles away from every school that would be in the District. Playoffs are a small part

It's obviously allowed because districts have been and are doing it.  This is what I'd call a legitimate reason.  "Extreme" distances could have an impact on stretched budgets or class time for students.. I would think that UIL could come up with a list of qualifying situations for playing in a different district than UIL assigned.  What would be the reason for Liberty or HJ to opt up?  They're certainly not "100+ miles away from every school that would be in the District".. so what's the reason?  And then, hypothetically, should a school or more from the previous district decide to opt up to avoid a 5 team district.. is that not as good of a reason?  See what I'm saying?  A fraction of the public school in Texas that live in the middle of nowhere are saving money and school time, but it's applying statewide.  I don't agree.

Not that it matters.. the UIL has never done several opinions of mine so why would they start now?  They wouldn't.

That's silly. Is this even a real issue? Have there been major conflicts and complaints in the state?

Note to self: If you want to blow something up that no one even cares about, start a thread and get some traction.

I didn't say it was a real issue.. I implied that it's potentially an issue.  Then I gave an opinion of which I'm allowed.  You don't have to like or agree with it.

Needs to be investigated and signed off on for the right reasons really.

Who decides the “right reasons”? Like I said.. just NO across the board.  If you think your school district can’t cover travel expenses, just forfeit your playoff spot and schedule schools within a whatever mile radius.

What happens here, if Silsbee, or maybe Jasper and WOS, say heck with trying to schedule out of a 5 team district, and they all opt up? That would be kinda interesting?

This is why I say that none of them should be allowed to do it.  It opens up the potential for all kinds of crazy stuff.

I don't have a 4A dog in this hunt, but I do not support banning opt ups at all. Think statewide, what if El Paso had five 6A teams, and one more 5A team. It would make a ton of common sense to opt up that one 5A to fill out their district. There could be / would be collateral damage with a statewide opt up ban.

Maybe Stepp just posted that to start up talk and get clicks. I dunno.

What if El Paso five 6A schools, and one more 3A team.

  10. I’m not a huge fan of any school opting up. I personally believe that whatever UIL determines is the cutoff, your enrollment places you. I do understand wanting to for financial reasons.. but.. wouldn’t that also be true about just being in district with the 6 closest schools? If travel is truly the issue, just go independent and stay in a 30 mile radius.

Disclaimer: I wholeheartedly disagree with several things UIL does.

First... this game may still happen if Newton wants to continue. 2nd.... playing any other 3ad2 team from our area would be a no-win situation. But not Newton. We want to keep this game for as long as we can.

The hypothetical here is that IF Newton drops another classification.. which is what I thought I saw earlier.  At that point, Newton could play any of the 3ad2 schools or wide variety of 3ad1 schools and would still be playing up in the preseason.

If Newton were to drop then it would probably more likely that a 4A teams stops scheduling them.

being tested in the preseason is still better than being tested for the first time in round 4 of the playoffs.

What I'm saying is that there is so much time between Week 2 and Round 4 that it doesn't matter.  That's literally 12 straight weeks of probably blowing somebody out.. 12 weeks of starters not going in past halftime.. 12 weeks of playing zero situations that are gonna be seen deep into the playoffs.

Does it matter that a close game was played several months before? In my opinion, no.  So who cares if WOS drops the game going forward..
