Without Kade Dotson they are going to struggle, the same thing happened with Central being the favorite and they lost their best player in a injury in regional final and lost the state semi , they will play hard but without the leader it will be difficult.

Toe Toe got hurt in the State semi-final game. He had 8 points in the first 4 minutes before going down. Nijal Pearson played a hell of a game as a freshman that night to keep Central in it down to the wire. If they would’ve snuck past Kimball they would’ve won’t it. Central brought back all 5 starters and still missed out on the state tournament due to how good Ozen was the next season. One of the best seasons of Beaumont Basketball that year with Central and Ozen going wire to wire as 1,2, or 3 with Lancaster all season.

  2. 3 Beaumont boys representing JL3 at Peach Jam. The pinnacle of Nike grassroots and they are showing out. Wanted these boys to get their praises.

    Ashton Simmons

    Kayde Dotson

    Clarence Payia

Ashton Simmons had a triple double and a game winner yesterday in what has been the game of the tournament so far. Also a much needed win for them to try and make it to bracket play.

Congrats on making it to Augusta and go win the thing!

I don't know any of the Buna players from the 60's, but they won like six state titles.  I would imagine they had a couple guys better than Kreston Richardson (no disrespect as I've never seen or even heard of him).  Rumor has it the days of Buna as a power are over and coaches are desperately trying to get out of there.

They’ve lost an assistant coach already.

Clayton Allen (Class of 90). Played at D1 at Drake. He was the best of the post-King Cotton guys.  Wanna say he led the state in scoring his senior year at Buna too.

Don’t know how he slipped my mind. He would be on that short list with the 6 I mentioned. From what I heard growing up he was a great player.

He still looks like he could give you 12 a game on Tuesdays and Fridays too!

    Ol cotton

i have his booklet def, offensive, philosophy.
I have a lot of written basketball material from him.

There was two twins from then that were around 6’10. Other than that idk much about those guys. Cotton is one of the Goats though.

I haven’t gone back and looked in previous post  but was there any  Buna kids mentioned.

I remember a small guard in late 99s early 2000s

I wanna say Michael McMahon….I could be wrong on that

McMahon, Remi/Alex Connell (sorry GMan, just don’t have the team accomplishments)

Tyler Edwards, Kreston Richardson. If not for an off shooting night in Kirbyville and some questionable they were on a fast track to go to state.

Bryan Whitmire and there’s a couple of guys from those late 90s early 2000s teams to be mentioned.

Those 6 are probably where you start. Although i’m sure some guys from those regional teams in early 2000s will argue.

Let me add to this so someone doesn’t come and rebuttal about the 50 and 60s. I have no knowledge of those guys.

Maybe where you're from, winning a gold medal and NBA titles is common enough to disregard?  Maybe Hefner and Jamie Weaver would have dominated juco and southland basketball.  We'll never know, but we do know that Weisbrod couldn't play at A&M or Houston because they didn't offer him a scholarship.

Everyone has their own opinions and that's what makes this fun.  Hell, I once saw someone rank themselves top 10 all time at a school they didn't even go to.  You never no what other people think and there's really no wrong answers.

So are you ranking them on offers and what they did after high school or what they did in school? You’re moving the goalposts every post 😂

I guess I was not very specific on the parameters of the topic.  Oh well.  It's a crappy thread if there isn't any arguing or debating!

Even if you want to go with Hefner as the collegiate player he has had a hard time finding a role on the team. Weisbrod was a very very good player once he moved back home. Dominated the juco level and then came in and was one of the top 5 players in the confrence for two years.

Jamie Weaver averaged 3 points a game at Houston and then had to transfer to Hawaii where he didn’t even end up finishing out playing basketball.

If you want to go with the guy who played HS ball in the 40s and 50s go ahead I guess.

Point is, those other two have been to better programs, and Hefner was 100% the better prospect, but no one who has played at Nederland has been better than Colton.

Thanks.  I expected more from the Beaumont crowd.  Maybe Nederland too, but they're preoccupied with bashing their own football program right now.  And speaking of Bulldogs, I heard BJ Tyler is going to be the next coach at Kelly.  Anyone else hear that?

Nederland has only one person to even be considered. It’s Colton, a wide gap, and then 3 or 4 more players to be considered. That’s no disrespect to the other guys, but Colton was in a league of his own.

What a run for the Cougars with those three.  How would you rank them (for fun)?  I would go Alex, Remi, then Garrison.  But full disclosure, I by far have seen the least of Garrison. You usually don’t see the middle kid being the best for whatever reason but that’s where I feel the strongest.  Much less confident ranking the other two.  All three were an absolute ball to watch and ALWAYS conducted themselves with class on the court.  Kudos to Manny on raising quality young men.

Alex is one of the best all around athletes to ever walk the halls in Buna. I’d say you’re probably right. 100% agree on the last part. Their parents are some of the best you’ll ever find.

Playing like it's AAU from what I see, it's actual HS teams just under a different name. Simeon HS from Chicago will be there, Camden HS from Jersey will be there, I believe I saw Faith Family being there too.

Not like AAU. UIL only allows schools certain amount of games a year. It’s like what the California schools do or get around the CIF game rule limit. Same coaches and same players. Just for fun though 😉

    Bingo!

Hey @BMTSoulja1 when Toby got to Central didn't yall have a spark in numbers of players getting major offers?

he's done the same at Shoemaker.

Toby has sent something like 30-40 kids to school on FULL RIDES. He is very involved with the track program which anybody will tell you, a good track team correlates to a good football team. He is well connected and respected by college coaches.
