Haven’t seen a game, but it seems like my horns have improved some this year.  We’ve got a really solid core of 10-13 year olds across a couple of teams that should make the program a playoff contender in 3-4 years

They have now beat 2 of the top 5 conference teams on the road (tonight and Nicholls).  Have lost to two bad teams on the road HCU and UIW but responded well this weekend with this one and Saturday’s blowout of UNO.  And both the Nicholls win and this one were in OT.  Always encouraging to win those kinds of games in hostile environments.

Game 1 bad refs, Game 2 good refs, Game 3 bad refs. Got it.
This game was won at the 5:00 minute mark through the end of the 1st half when Kountze went on a 35-12 run. Plain and simple. Blaming the refs is nothing new, and explains a lot about the way some kids behave on the court. 

If a coach gets a technical foul and ejected from the game, they get a public reprimand.

I think another Biden term would be more survivable than Newsom.

What a game! 

how does one have an 8-22 team handed to him on a silver platter?  Great job by Coach Hoyt to turn this team around in 2 years, whether the players were there or not.  Those players won 8 and 5 games the two years before he took over.  

2022- 8-22 
2023- 16-20 (Hoyt's first year at Vidor) doubled the win total from the pervious year  
2024- 18-15 and made playoffs for just the third time in school history. The other 2 times being when Coach English was the head coach

That situation has happened many times. Doesn't mean Coach Hoyt isn't a quality coach.

I know two coaches that have winning records at Spurger. One took them to state tourney.

Shouldn't hang too much of a hat on that district championship. That was the year this Silsbee senior group were freshmen and I stated that if anyone was going to get Silsbee it was that year because those next three years Silsbee would dominate. Which they have. Also, Silsbee had to play their JV for two varsity games that year because of Covid protocols. Two losses that when Silsbee got their varsity team back they beat both those teams (LC-M and Vidor) by 25-30 points. Lumberton got the luxury of getting Silsbee right after they came out of Covid protocol (no practices) and beat Silsbee. Silsbee had beat Lumberton earlier in district play. Silsbee went on to play in the regional championship game that season, losing to Huffman by 6. A Huffman team that destroyed Lumberton in the playoffs that year by 34. I think it is very fair to say that Lumberton caught Silsbee at the right time. Anyone with any kind of basketball knowledge would agree with that. 
I think Josh is a good coach, no doubt. But to say that the other coaches would not do as well as he has given the situation is just not a fair or smart statement.

That's the whole point here, and it's clear that Mitchell's fans have a different definition than everyone else.  And it's a shame, because he's done just fine over there, but with all of the crazy claims made by a handful of people, these turn into what feels like an anti-Mitchell thread, when in reality they turn into anti-delusional Mitchell fan threads.

You not knowing who those two are tells me all I need to know about your knowledge of the area basketball scene.
Doug Jones is a Port Arthur guy. Very in tuned to the high school basketball in this area and Houston.
The conflict was from both sides and the fact that Washington had to start district play a week earlier than scheduled. They had no choice but to cancel.
Neither could come up with a make up date that suited both teams.
Only thing I saw wrong with Washington was them waiting at the last minute to cancel.

I do.  The further along we go, the more I wonder how much of the improvement has been Mitchell, and how much has been dropping in classification and having a generational player for the first 3 years after dropping.  his only year in 5A he didn't do any better than the guys before him.  Once he got away from Central, Ozen, PAM, and Nederland, combined with having the best? player in Lumberton history, they had a couple of good seasons, including the district championship with the fortuitous covid win over silsbee.  But since then, we're looking at missing the playoffs 2 out of 3 years, with a 4th place seed the other, which wasn't even a possibility for the guys before him.  Would any of the Lumberton teams before 2014 have made the playoffs if 4 teams went?  I honestly don't know.  I think Mitchell has improved the program some, and the basketball culture in Lumberton to some degree, but I also think it's time to quit throwing his name around with the Jouberts and Greens and Siglers and Sutherlands, etc. like some of his biggest fans like to do.  It's great that he has the support of the community, but that doesn't change the results.  It's okay for him to just be a coach who had a couple of pretty good seasons with an all-time great player at a school that has traditionally not been very good.  Maybe he can get them going back in the right direction, I don't know.  .  

this HJ team is extremely short on studs, but to fair, his “studs” over the last several years have gone on to play D3 and NAIA, mostly due to the fact that he pushes to get them offers.  Listening to you one would think he’s had a steady supply of D1 players coming down the pipeline.   Still, in his “worst” ever season coaching (two of the best basketball minds on the board say it’s his best coaching job) he’s got a fighting chance to make the playoffs.  I made a commitment last year to not talk about Mitchell, as for a time I admittedly criticized him too much for some stuff that happened off the court.  I got past that, but the delusions of his fan club led me into a lot of conversations where I still came off as critical of him, and I’ve heard from enough people to know he’s done some good things over there for the kids and in the community that changed my mind about him to a certain extent.  A lot of what seemed like criticism of him was just disputing outlandish claims made by his supporters.  That said, you like to take shots at "my guy", so I suppose I can at least be objectively truthful about yours. It seems to some degree he's improved the basketball culture in the community, and the team has had some good seasons under him.  None of that changes the fact that the fan club is still delusional.  You literally came on here crowing when Lumberton got their only 2-game win streak of the season, and their only win against a playoff team.  They're 11-20 and need help not to miss the playoffs in an extremely weak district, and you're still on here trying to act like he's the next Coach K.  You’re still trying to crap all over Davis, who's never missed the playoffs at 3 different schools over a long career.  The truth is, the further they've gotten from that once in a generation Lumberton D1 player, the more Lumberton looks like they did pre-Mitchell.  Not sure exactly what that means, but I can make some inferences.  

Missing the playoffs in 20-4A is not the same as missing it in 19-4A.
But neither hasn't missed just yet.
And I think it's been said many times this season. This is one of the weaker HJ teams of late. Coach Davis is doing a great job to have them in position to make playoffs. At least he has more than one win vs. a playoff team this season.
