bullets13 reacted to tvc184 in 'zero tolerance policy' during Jeep Weekend
That was almost certainly for being a jerk if the news reports are correct.
If the police had a reason to detain him for a violation such as expired registration, he has to identify himself. The report says that he was arrested for failing to identify himself.
it was only a couple of traffic citations. Geez, identify yourself, sign the ticket and move on.

I get all that. But I’d be just as upset if I rented a beach cabin months ago and showed up and there was thousands of drunks trashing up the beach and committing crimes

If I was going to relax at the beach, it would not be during Jeep weekend.

wasted two excellent starts that series. Could've easily swept, but certainly should have taken at least 3 out 4.

Really, arrested for traffic violations? I didn’t know that. I just go by the fact that, on a beautiful May weekend, the vendors would rather close their businesses than make tons of money. Like I said, I’m sure there are those who go to the beach to have a good time and not commit felonies, but Crystal Beach probably wishes Jeep weekend would go away. I have no problem with Jeep owners or Jeep weekend, but the past events speak for themselves.

bullets13 reacted to Ty Cobb in 2025 Texas Rangers
The RANGERS took game 1 of the 4 game series from the astros thanks to a wonderful pitching performance from Jacob deGrom.
Burger hit a solo HR in the 6th for the only run of the game. If you were able to watch this game is was a great one from both starting pitchers. Hunter Brown in going to be tough to compete against in the future.
Tonight's pitching matchup.
astros: McCullers
RANGERS: Eovaldi

just because it refutes your position doesn't make it asinine. the house is a microcosm of the country, and the metaphor is accurate.

You seem to ignore “the right of the people…. shall not be infringed”.
The Second Amendment mentions nothing about the right of the state to have a militia.
Then you have to ignore Article III……

That is an asinine metaphor. If the criminal were an illegal alien, the baby born would be a citizen of the country, not a member of my household. Shun the immigrant at your own peril. “Depart, I never knew you”, He will say.

WAAAY off topic, but your comment reminds me of a joke:
"You know the problem with female referees in the NFL? They keep bringing up stuff you did like 3 games ago..."

Do you know what "perseverating" means? That's what you're doing. We're talking about something happening right now, and your only response is to (repeatedly) bring up something from 40 years ago. The irony is you keep asking this question but won't address why it was okay for Obama to deport so many people.

Thanks for asking. I’m opposed to doing away with property taxes for a few reasons- primarily, in regards to “how will we replace this tax revenue?” If you normally pay $3k per year in property taxes, you’d just expect to pick it up elsewhere, through sales tax or an excise (vat) tax. The only problem is that the redistribution of that burden won’t be passed down evenly. Parkdale Mall Will no longer pay property taxes, but WILL pay a higher sales tax on the lightbulbs and toilet paper that they buy. They’re going to pay way less.
A guy that owns a dozen rent houses will see his property tax bill shrink dramatically. Will he pass the savings on to his tenants? Of course not. The people renting won’t see any change at all in their cost of living. But the average Joe Homeowner who’s already having trouble making ends meet will surely see an increase in the cost of everything he buys to survive. It’s been proven that increases in sales taxes hurt lower income people worse than wealthy people. A larger percentage of their income will be spent on taxes, while people with multiple properties see their tax liability decrease.
Another HUGE problem is that money won’t be collected locally. Your sales tax dollars will be collected by an agency of the state that will then redistribute the funds as they see fit. Good luck getting those hairy-legged women in the Peoples’ Republic of Austin to send anything back our way. How well can rural counties lobby against the Harris, Bexar, Dallas, and Tarrant counties? We’ll all be sucking hind teat, if you know what I mean.
The cost of education is high. Right now the average annual spending per student in Texas is almost $10k/year. Assuming you had three kids at home, could you afford to educate them at a cost of $30k per year? I sure couldn’t. Most people who have kids in school simply can’t afford to shoulder the cost of educating them by themselves. That’s how we ended up spreading the cost of their education among all property owners.
I’m not saying that property taxes are fair, but it’s the most fair system that we’ve got. And to be frank, the voting public will vote against their own interests when instructed to. I’d be amazed if you didn’t just vote for politicians here in Texas that were in favor of giving tax dollars to rich parents to offset the cost of private education for their spoiled brats. Not necessarily you personally, but Texans as a group just sent their legislators to Austin with a mandate to make vouchers for private school for rich kids a public responsibility, while simultaneously arguing that “taxation is theft.”
It’s bananas.

what if the law allowed for a situation where a criminal could break into your house and have a baby, and then not only would the baby be allowed to stay and live there in your house, but the mother would be allowed to as well so she could take care of the baby? As the owner of the house you'd even have to allot some of your monthly budget to help provide basic services and food for them. Sound absurd? It does to me as well. @UT alum, same question.
