Who will have the best team in the Triangle next season?
bullets13 replied to bacbone9's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
HJ will be solid. they were supposed to have a "down year" this season, and they're still playing while all of the area teams predicted to advance sit at home. they'll lose some studs, just like every single perennial power in the area will. it's pretty pointless to predict about next season. any team who makes the playoffs has a chance to advance a long way (see jasper, livingston). -
Congrats to Vidor!!!
-
:o What does that mean?! it means he'd be going from a team that is capable of winning state in any given year to a team that struggles to get out of the first round of the playoffs. it's no knock on central, just pointing out that he'd be moving from a guaranteed great team to a team where he'd probably have to work harder for lesser results. (not to mention the fact that silsbee is already built for another deep playoff run next year)

and they probably always will. the joys of a much larger school and a district where tall people can choose where they go play basketball. -
So what? The HF Freshmen did the same thing! yeah, but dirk had rolled his ankle and was only about 80%
-
i know most of those men, and i'm not at all surprised that they've taken this opportunity to sponsor the hawks so that all of us fans who can't go can still enjoy the game. thanks for the opportunity to hear the game!!!

nice to see HJ with a couple of freshman listed at 6'2'' and 6'3''. we'll have some height to build on in the next couple of years if these boys keep growing -
6'8'' center and 5 other players listed at 6'3''... sheesh. well, at least we have that one 6'3'' post presence
-
nope, but i might need you to hold my 8 pound balls while i bowl : when was college, anyway, the early 90's? anywho, how about those HJ coaches!
-
we need to have a competition of some sort. i'm thinking basketball, soccer for me, golf for you, maybe bowling, ping pong, some other stuff where your impressive girth won't hinder you. ;D I will have you know that I took bowling in college since my golf coach was the bowling professor!!! Easy A!!!!!!! Also I won the Intramural Ping Pong tourney........you do not want any small man!!! ;D ;D ;D :D :o i finished second in our ping pong tourney, and i carried a 200 average a couple years back when i was in a bowling league. YOU don't want any, big guy!
-
i have to disagree with the fella who said that any of the 4 finalists in 3A could win the 4A tourney.

these coaches are class acts! Coach Davis coached me when i was about 12 years old (for less than a month on an allstar team). 13 years later, having not seen him in pretty much all that time, I PM'ed him on here, and asked if he remembered me. he immediately remembered me and my "sweet left-handed jumpshot". with the hundreds of kids he's coached since then, him remembering said a lot to me about how much he cares for the athletes he coaches.

amazing accomplishments for these two!!! -
You know, this is really ugly stuff. Why is H-J spending an iota of energy arguing with Silsbee. Silsbee did themselves in by thinking a win by 40+ in the early season would send Jasper into a swoon for the second meeting. Just not the case. Jasper came into this game with something to prove to Silsbee - and they did. If ever there is evidence that you play the game in the present - not the past, and not the future - this is it. Go to the state tourney Hawks and play your very best. Don't look back and feel that you need to defend how you got there - you don't. You earned it. Now close it down with the arguments and go play state tournament basketball. from an HJ fan... well said. all of this back and forth crap is pointless.

a couple of rounds ago, HJ had a lead against cleveland with about 4 minutes to go, and the Hawks were trying to stall the ball. Cleveland came out and pressured, forced two turnovers in a row, and went from trailing to leading in about a minute and a half. The hawks were forced into a position to where they had to start running their offense again. stalling might be boring to watch, but it can win a game if the other team does nothing about it. it's relatively easy to keep a team from stalling. go out and force the action. you might get a steal, force a bad pass, a 5 second violation, back court violation, etc. it's on the team that's trailing to force the issue, not the team that's leading. it may not be the "manly" way to win, but they're the team going to state.

looks like i'll be listening to a game at work... good luck Hawks!

HJ HAS BEEN LUCKY. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE TALENT TO GO ALL THE WAY they got lucky? when? when they beat #8 navasota? maybe when they beat #7 cleveland? or when they beat #20 hudson? or was it when they beat the team that put your team out? give me a break.
