  1. Literally the mandate you were describing as the good old days in the original post I quoted, where you were missing when Christianity forced on you in public schools, government buildings, and all other sorts of places.
  2. This nation was founded on religious freedom, not a Christian mandate. In God We Trust was first used in our country nearly a century after we won our independence. I don't have a problem with Christianity, but I definitely have a problem with it being forced on people, as it was for about 150 years. And while I don't disagree that there are a lot of problems today, there were a whole lot of problems when Christianity was integrated into all aspects of our society as well.
  3. I agree with this. It has gotten better, at least. I think knowledge of the virus and treatments have both improved, and more medications and options are on the way. I hope that at some point it will become as easy to treat and recover from as the common flu.
  4. David Marcus: Manchin smacks Biden's placeholder presidency (msn.com)
  5. I watched the movie once about 20 years ago, and couldn’t remember much about it, other than the N-word was pretty prevalent, and that I thought it was pretty funny. I was googling your reference to Pryor and Wilder and Blazing Saddles popped up, and then read an article talking about Pryor encouraging the N-word in the movie, so I thought he must’ve been the lead. I couldn’t pick Clevon Little out of a lineup of two black men (unless he was in the lineup with Richard Pryor)
  6. Kind of a weird one. As I said, I see it as self defense, but I could see the prosecution arguing that he instigated the attacks by bringing a rifle to a “peaceful protest.” Not my belief, but I can see them saying it, combined with the argument that it was illegal for him to have it.
  7. He wrote a good chunk of the screenplay, and placed many of those N-words in the movie for shock.
  8. COVID deaths don’t tell the whole story either. My stepdad didn’t die, but it messed him up. He still has some COVID fog a year later. A good buddy on this site is still struggling 3 or 4 months after getting sick as well.
  9. I agree that they're different, but it's the same type of logic. (they did it 40 years ago, so why should they care now?) Social norms have changed a lot. What if a white guy calls a black guy the N-word but doesn't mean it as a slur and uses the soft A ending? Is that okay then? If he isn't trying to be offensive does it mean it's not offensive?
  10. I guess since Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor used the N-word a lot in blazing saddles it should be ridiculous for black people to be offended if a white person calls them that?
  11. I don't see how anyone can look at the footage and not determine that he acted in self-defense. He was retreating at all times, and was attacked by all three of the people he shot. My question is this: he was committing a crime at the time by carrying the rifle. Does that negate the self-defense charge?
  12. I know i'm not as conservative as a lot of you guys, but I do lean to the right, and I have some definite issues with a lot of the liberal sensitivity and cancel culture going on these days. That said, I've got a little different outlook on this one. I can absolutely understand why African Americans find blackface offensive, and any white person stupid enough to wear it in today's social climate is an idiot who deserves whatever they get. Do I think a kid dressing as Madea is the same as blackface used in old minstrel shows? Of course not. But if this kid told me in advance what he was planning, this is almost exactly how I would've expected things to play out.
  13. I'm not saying it's not lame, but we had to run until we threw up, had players kicked off teams, etc. etc. etc. when I was in school for things that happened at private, non-sanctioned parties.
  14. I know 9 people personally who've died from Covid. 2 of them were distant family members. I know at least 3 dozen more who've been hospitalized. Admittedly I was only close/fairly close to 3 of the people who died. I don't know anyone who's been so much as hospitalized from the vaccine. In general everyone I know who "knows someone who died after taking the vaccine" was strongly anti-vax to begin with, and I honestly assume most of them are lying, or reading someone else's lie on facebook and taking it as their own.
  15. What a win! That’s the kind of game Jason Garrett would’ve lost 24-9
