  1. The issue I have with this argument, which I hear from the most conservative bunch quite often, is not one of them doesn't have some sort of lifestyle or sin that they're doing regularly. I don't know you at all, so I don't know what yours is, but I'm positive there's a sin that you do regularly without any real effort to stop. I've never really understood why homosexuality became the sin that the religious right put up on a pedestal as the "worst" sin. I guess because it's nasty to think about? as for the second argument: I already stated I don't want my kids being exposed to stuff like that on Nickolodeon. But literally every sin is glorified on tv and movies these days, but just like in the previous paragraph, there's only one sin that needs to "quit being shoved down our throats." It's just a hypocrisy of the church I've never really been able to understand, even with my 20 or so college hours of Christian studies and 4-year degree from a Baptist college.
  2. There's a reason it's the most popular sport (by a landslide) in the world, and that it's called "the beautiful game". But to appreciate it you have to understand it, and there's a lot of nuance to it. It definitely does not fit into the immediate gratification category that pretty much all American sports provide. I've played soccer for the better part of 35 years. I can watch a 0-0 game and find plenty to enjoy, but I certainly understand that the casual observer would not find that same enjoyment.
  3. The US women's soccer team and now democratic congress is continuing to keep up the charade that the women aren't being fairly treated, despite the fact that the women are receiving much more compensation than the men, which was verified when their lawsuit was struck down a few months ago. I'm over it.
  4. Last night they followed it up with a 4-0 drubbing of Costa Rica, a team that has traditionally played us tough. This team is definitely trending in the right direction.
  5. I see the poor folk collecting 10K+ tax returns after collecting govt subsidies and paying little to no income tax all year. I get ultra mad about that.
  6. I understand this, but I would prefer the question not to arise from watching a children's television channel.
  7. I don't have an issue with people being who they want to be, but I don't necessarily want to have to have a conversation with my 5 and 8 year olds about transgender and drag queens.
  8. so what's the haps? Now that Saban signed an extension with Alabama are they back at square one?
  9. The enterprise needs to give out awards in small and big school divisions, but they won't, it's too much work. To only have ten spots for kids from however many local schools (50? 100? Not sure what their coverage area is), they're clearly trying to avoid giving out 3-4 awards to one school. they easily could've done that with United this year, and Silsbee in years past. The Super Gold teams have never been done well. In high school I was a 4-year first team all-district soccer player, was offensive MVP of the district twice, and set season and career school records in goals and points that haven't been broken 17 years later, and I never even made second team. One year two players from my district who scored less goals and had less assists than me both made the team ahead of me in the same position. It's a cool honor for those who receive it, but those that are left out shouldn't put any stock in it.
  10. I've noticed that a decent number of Latinos vote Republican, especially the ones that came here to build a better life and are working hard and paying taxes.
  11. If I'm not mistaken a few of the girls on that team have two SCs now. Didn't liberty win it all when this year's seniors were freshmen?
  12. The new era of US soccer started last night with the US defeating Mexico 3-2 in the CONCACAF Nations Final. For the last couple of years Mexico has been taking us to the woodshed, but last night wasn't a fluke. With all the young talent we have right now the US should be more than competitive with Mexico for the next 10 years.
  13. I'm more inclined to believe that these UFOs are govt technology (either ours or someone else's), and that the govt is more than happy for people to believe that it's aliens vs. man-made technology.
  14. I don't disagree with this, but I'll also admit I find some of the youngest politicians in office to be the most terrifying.
  15. Maxpreps rankings are meaningless. In both the baseball and softball rankings they have teams that aren't ranked first in texas ranked #1 nationally.
  16. Maxpreps rankings are stupid. They have them ranked 7th in Texas, but 2nd in the nation? Maybe I don't fully understand how their rankings work? That said, these are absolutely two fantastic wins for BH.
  17. aaaaand, a rain delay. 2-2 count, 0 outs, B7 BH leads 5-2
  18. Just able to turn it on at work in time to see BH rounding the bases after a homerun. 5-2 BH leads
  19. That's insane. I read an article the other day about a promising young football player who was shot and killed at a party at a hotel in Dallas. The parents of the 17-year-old sued the hotel for $25M because the hotel rented a room to a 20-year-old, which was "against their policy" to only rent to people 21 and up. These parents weren't to blame for not knowing where their 17-year-old was in the middle of the night, but the hotel was supposedly responsible for an 18-year-old pulling out a gun and shooting him.
