  1. Removing possibly the most dominant big man in the district off a team isn't going to make them better. That said, I don't know a thing about the kid or any issues that go along with him, and it may be a tradeoff that many are willing to make.
  2. State schools could give THOUSANDS of students full rides if they closed divisive DEI departments (msn.com)
  3. yes, that happened before district started. and considering that they've lost two 1-point games and only lost by 6 to HF and HH, i think it's fair to say they would be in the mix for a district championship had he stuck around.
  4. Really don't expect that to happen this year, unless several players quit or get hurt. My bold prediction is they end the season in a tie for 3rd with Splendora and win the seeding game. That said, HJ hasn't had a season like this in probably 20 years. They were pretty so/so while I was in high school, especially when we were 4A (5A now).
  5. UT is 1-3 in conference, and not particularly good this year. As I expected. Would love to have kept Beard. Not surprisingly, Ole Miss is currently 15-2 on the season with Beard at the helm, after going 12-21 last season.
  6. I'm not saying that an outbreak won't happen, but did anyone happen to actually watch the video? It feels like maybe not.
  7. It's interesting... a year ago it looked like DeSantis was going to be the heir apparent to Trump. Then he got in his own way and started acting like Trump in a bid to win Trump fan support, and in doing so lost the support of everyone else. It definitely appears at this point Trump is a shoo-in for the nomination. Hopefully people are fed up enough with Biden to either vote for Trump or at least not show up to the polls.
  8. What offense turns Orangefield into a contender for a state championship?
  9. For all the credit Quinn gets for being a defensive genius, the defense has been awful this year against good teams. Dak put them in a hole, but had the defense gotten even a couple of stops today this game would still be in reach. They can’t stop the run and have had blown assignments all game in the secondary
  10. I was referring to BC and HJ, but you’re correct in your statement I think
  11. and not hard to find that many 4a and up
  12. I know this isn't directed at me, but I don't think it would be difficult at all over all classifications in our coverage area to make a list in the neighborhood of 2-3 dozen teams who haven't come close to the success that Orangefield has seen in the last decade.
  13. unfortunately this site doesn't have the technology for me to bust out the crayons and draw you a picture so that you can understand what I'm saying. No, I'm not saying they are a bad team. You basically are, though. The point I'm making is that there are MANY, MANY local teams who ARE BAD who would have loved to field the teams and have the results that Orangefield has had over the last decade running the slot-t. Ironically enough, two of the local teams who would gladly trade places with Orangefield over the last decade both had success for a couple of seasons each WHILE RUNNING THE SLOT-T, only to fade back into nothing when they switched offenses.
  14. correct. part of the unspoken point, although through further discourse it's becoming clear I needed to spell things out better
  15. what are you talking about? I'm discussing all of the bad local teams who haven't done crap for the last ten years. They would LOVE to have found the success Orangefield has. PNG and WOS literally have nothing to do with anything in this discussion.
  16. Speaking of dumb arguments... Lumberton has literally done this once in the last 17 years, and twice in their 60 year history. No it's not feasible for them to expect to do it again anytime soon. LCM managed it one year out of 25. Again, not particularly feasible. And this does in fact hold true for most area schools.
  17. yeah, there's zero local teams that have struggled the last decade that might would want to have gone to the playoffs 9 out of 10 years instead
  18. it's also worth noting that since they started playing in 1956, Orangefield has NEVER seen the third round, as best as I can tell, although I may have missed one somewhere. From 1956 to 2012, OF made 12 playoff appearances. In the last 10 years they've made 9 playoff appearances. So yeah, the slot-T has been an overwhelming success for the bobcats.
  19. sometimes that's the ceiling, or close to it. You know how many local schools would absolutely love to trade their last ten years for orangefield's?
  20. and back on topic, has the big list been released publicly yet?
  21. carthage had 6 losing seasons in the 30 years before Surratt arrived. He came into a school with a considerable amount of consistent talent and with a consistent history of making the playoffs, and his excellent coaching got them over the hump. Coach Buchanan did a great job at Aledo, but in his first 15 years only won one state title (in his sixth year, ironically). He then went 9 more without one, before the area growth brought more talent his way. Consequently, Aledo has won 11 of the last 15 championships despite having 3 different coaches over that time. Did they luck into 3 elite coaches in a decade? I kinda doubt it. Buchanan may have started things off, but they have a major talent edge there. That said, HJ has 3 winning seasons in 20 years, and that was one special group of kids. BC has two winning seasons in the last 10 years, ironically enough with the same coach and QB as a couple of those decent HJ teams. You're still comparing apples to oranges. Surratt could absolutely come to those schools and turn them around and make them winners, but he's not taking them to state or anywhere close to it unless a whole bunch of kids move in with him.
