JSnipes got a reaction from Red Boyou in PNG vs Liberty Hill ticket link
If I'm the LH coach I wouldn't want to play at Legacy Stadium where they lost last year. I wouldn't want to play at NRG where PNG just won. Whatever reasons he has for that stadium are probably good ones that he feels benefit his team.
I got our tickets for the family as soon as I saw the link. I'm just hoping PNG fans choose to buy a lot of seats on LH's side instead of deciding not to go. It would be pretty crazy to look at the home side and see people standing for Cherokee and doing the Tomahawk Chop.

There was a loss of down. Normally, if you accept a penalty the team replays the down and loses the penalty yardage.  If you decline the penalty it becomes second down, but the ball is placed at the most recent dead ball spot. With intentional grounding you lose that current down and the yardage. The loss of down was first down. Essentially it’s the same idea of being sacked. However, I did think it was a long time before they started running the clock.

So what would voting look like if we removed names and parties from people? They spoke on their beliefs and their agenda's but we couldn't see their faces. Their history of what they have and haven't supported was shown next to their candidacy (we know a great majority of people aren't going to try and research this). I bet we would find different people in offices all over the country. Too many people vote on parties, or for a name, or against a name, etc. A lot of people vote for a certain party because that's what their parents voted for. I would be willing to be it people really took a neutral approach from the beginning...we would see different results in a lot of elections.

I like it. Now just need to do something about that DH spot. I've heard rumors about Nimmo and Conforto. Market value for them on Spottrac is pretty high. I would prefer Nimmo out of the two if they are going to do that. I like the idea of bringing Yuli back for 5-7 million. Something about that man in the playoffs and he's a big part of the culture. Abreu and Yuli could be the 1B/DH option on most days. You could put Yordan as DH and play Myers in the OF on some other days. We shall see what they do, but I do think they sign Nimmo, Conforto, Brantley, or Yuli for a positional/DH spot.

I was only in high school at the time, but I believe PNG was not supposed to beat La Marque in the 4th round in 1999. I don't know if La Marque was a heave favorite, but it felt like it was the way people talked about them. FBM seems to be a heavy favorite on paper and their defense seems to be pretty stingy, but there's a reason they play the game. Maybe a repeat from 1999 for the good ole Indians.

And Flower Mound did it with distance runners. I don't know if I've ever seen a team win state in track with distance. They had a possibility to score 58 points in the three distance races...and they did that. 1,2,3 in the 3200m and 1600m plus 1st in the 800. They also won HJ but the 58 they scored in distance was enough to win.

I contacted five state championship coaches one year when volleyball season and asked if I could meet with. I told them I would come to them and pay them for their time, but I just wanted to talk about the game and see what they were doing different than our area. One coach had just won her third in a row. The first thing she said to me was, “Coach…you are only as good as your athletes.”
During our conversation the name Ryan Mitchell came up and how good of a job he was doing. She told me he was her assistant and would talk about how terrible some coaches her. She would tell him, “Ryan…that coach could be really good but you are only as good as your players.” He took a job a school and left after two or three years because he was getting his butt kicked. Humbled, he went back to being her assistant for a year or two. He then left and started the volleyball program at Lucas Lovejoy…he won five straight state championships, including moving from 4A to 5A during that five year span.

Just an example how most coaches think…we are only as good as our athletes, but it is our job to maximize their talents to the best of their abilities. I also think this debate is probably as pointless as trying to change a Democratic to Republican or Republican to Democrat. You aren’t going to change anyone’s mind on how they feel.

Perhaps they didn't want to pass up on a proven coach at the high school level. Just because you have been in the college ranks doesn't mean anything. In college you get to recruit your players...you have what you have in high school. I'm not saying the individual you are speaking of (I have no idea who the person is) would or would not be successful at the high school level. But, they had the opportunity to hire someone that is a proven coach at the high school level and that's what they plan on doing. It will be interesting to see who lands at Buna.

Are you saying that if a coach doesn't win a state title in 7 years then that coach and the school district should part ways?

No one post scores anymore. It's the same way in volleyball. When I first started coaching parents posted scores a lot on this website. I guess with social media everyone has moved on to posting on those platforms?

They are going to be a very good group! Hopefully they can make it to the state tournament in the next year or two.
Blum looks prepared to possibly run three straight. They list 11 players on varsity and 10 are either freshmen or sophomores.

It has the potential to be a great match. Match within the match is Huffman is young and should have continued to improve all year (including since the last time they faced BC) vs Bridge City returns a lot from last year and is experienced. Winning is a habit and one team is used to winning at this level...the other is taking another shot at knocking this door down (I don’t believe they have went past the third round since 2007 or so). It should be very fun and entertaining for all! I have friends on both staffs and hate that someone is going to go home. Hopefully, both teams play excellent. Good luck to all!!!

Hardin, Huffman, and BC were in the Blue Pools. YMBL normally splits 1A-3A and 4A-6A unless a smaller school wants to play up. They did not do that this year. However, most of the 4A-6A schools were in the Blue Pools. I'm not sure how they split it up this year.

One year I was coaching boys basketball and our freshman team was not very good. We had zero A team players from JH and our second best player had not played since he was seven. However, we played extremely hard. There were two games we played that year and I didn't know if we were going to score before halftime. We had trouble breaking the press, and when we did couldn't make a shot. Never did I expect the other team, at any point in the game, to start playing different. It was our job to break the press and make a shot. It was not their job to stop playing the way that they play. Even when their subs came in, those young men needed to play the same way the starters did.
I've never understood why people expect the other team to just stop playing. I have been a part of volleyball scores 25-1, 25-2 (both sides of this score), and no one ever expected the volleyball team that was winning to stop attacking the ball. No one expected them to just start sending free balls to give the other team a chance. You have to perfect what you do and Coach Fogo is preparing his girls to play four quarters. If he pulled his starters and stalled once his girls were up big they would only play 1-2 quarters nearly every game. You can't get in game shape that way and that will possibly come back and hurt him in the playoffs when the girls have to play a hard four quarters.
I don't see any problem with teams winning big as long as there isn't showboating and gloating going on. As long as they are playing hard, coached hard, and trying to perfect their game I'm okay with it. I coached HF's current girls basketball coach in volleyball and track. She was a very good player and is a very good coach. I promise you she isn't upset about the score. She wants her girls to get better every second and face tough competition. That's why she scheduled HJ in a non-district match-up as well
Anyway...just my thoughts since I have been around both of these coaches for 15 years.
