I can’t keep up with the rotation. It was a guess. Sorry for being misleading. I wonder what Orel Hershiser’s excuse is for loss #2?

Hmmm...Valdez gave up two homeruns on his curve balls. He had given up two homeruns on curve balls his previous 56 starts (if I remember that correctly)....it's like they knew it was coming.

Since teams started district play last week I got to looking at Silsbee's district record over the last several years. The Tigers are currently on a 40 district game win streak. Last district loss was in the 2021 season to Lumberton.

I went back to the 2011-12 season (that's the season when Coach Joe Sigler came back to Silsbee). Since that season, Silsbee has a district record of 130-8. A .942 win percentage. Here is the district record for the last 13 seasons:

    2012          9-1          Co Champs   #2 seed

    2013          9-1           District Champs

2014         11-1          Co Champs  #2 seed (lost district playoff to WO-S)

    2015          11-1         Co Champs   #1 seed

    2016         12-0         District Champs

2017         9-0*          District Champs    *(Silsbee and LC-M had to forfeit their game)

    2018         10-0         District Champs

    2019         12-0         District Champs

2020         11-1         Co Champs   #1 seed (beat HJ in #1 seed game)

    2021          9-3          #2 seed

    2022        12-0          District Champs

    2023         12-0         District Champs

    2024         12-0         District Champs

    2025          1-0

That's 12 district championships (eight outright) and 10 #1 seeds in 13 years. Silsbee averaged 10 wins to .6 losses in district play. If you go back the last 10 years, Silsbee is 101-5 (.953) with 9 district championships (7 outright) and 9 #1 seeds.

This 40 district game win streak is the 2nd longest streak in this 13 year period. Tigers won 53 straight district games between 2015-2020. That streak was ended by Hamshire-Fannett.

As most know, that 2021 season that had Silsbee lose 3 district games was due in part by Covid. Silsbee had to play their JV in two district games against LC-M and Vidor in first half of district play. Once the Tigers got their varsity team back, they beat LC-M and Vidor by 30+. That was also Harris, Miller and Bottley and company freshmen year.

This is very impressive to say the least. Kudos to Coach Sigler and his staff and the Silsbee Tiger basketball team. Just another historical mark in Silsbee athletics.

A bit off topic, but I saw Payton Jones has already hit 1,000 points. Silsbee has had an incredible amount of talented basketball players come through. Is there a top five or ten list of all time leading scorers?

It warms my soul to know that more educated people voted for Harris. The people without college degrees didn't know any better. I can't blame them.

This is the hidden content, please

Putting people in a box and calling people that don't go to college uneducated (not saying you are saying that...but several of the liberal news stations and Dems have) is part of the rhetoric so many are tired of. What makes you uneducated because you didn't go to college? All of these people that go to trade school...are they uneducated? All these people that start their own business and are extremely successful...are they uneducated? I will take people that are knowledgeable and wise every day of the week over "education." College isn't for everyone. There are millions upon millions of jobs that are necessary for this world to function and they do not require college. Is someone that doesn't go to college uneducated because they don't go to college? I know a lot of people that make a lot more money with no college degree than I do with a college degree. With so many classes being online you can cheat your way through college. Are you educated just because a sheet of paper says you are? The idea that people who continue on to college are more intelligent than the people that don't is quite insulting to. It's a choice, and as I said, it's not for everyone. Let's not forget...it was the "educated" that put Jesus on the cross.

It's comical reading responses to this from people who have no idea or understanding on how anything works.

As with anything else that you want to give your opinion on, do your homework (couldn't help myself) and come in with some legs to stand on.

The rebuttal of "working parents", how do you handle Christmas break/Spring Break/Thanksgiving Break/SUMMER?

The removal of Friday doesn't mean the kids are losing time in the classroom, that time is made up by starting earlier and finishing later M-Th.

People throwing the wages argument of "part time work deserves part time pay" are ignorant if you think teachers are swimming in it.

I can keep going but unless you're involved, you can't possibly understand. My wife is in year 12 at a lower socioeconomic school and to help with getting by with 3 kids I continue to work my 6-day a week job. Thanks for taking up my lunch break with your ignorance.

Christmas break, spring break, and Thanksgiving break is hard on a lot of families. A lot of kids go to daycare or some type of summer program for the summer. To try and find somewhere for your young children to go nearly every Friday can be very difficult for a lot of people.

I don’t know why I subject myself to being a fan of this team

The Cowboys are my least favorite team, but this stat is a bit skewed now that they play 17 games. I would be interested to know, in the sixteen game schedule, was there ever a team that won 11 games in three straight seasons and not make the conference championship. In a 16 game schedule, they would have only won 12 games in 2022.

    This is correct.

Liberty Hill’s history in that stadium may be a factor, but limiting the PN-G turnout was clearly the primary concern.

I don’t blame the man for trying to put his team on the best footing possible. PN-G crowds are a factor in the game. We all know that. I respect his motivation.

But as PN-G fans, we can’t allow this kind of behavior to persist. The lesson has to be learned. You play this game with us, and we’ll teach you how it’s played.

If I'm the LH coach I wouldn't want to play at Legacy Stadium where they lost last year. I wouldn't want to play at NRG where PNG just won. Whatever reasons he has for that stadium are probably good ones that he feels benefit his team.

I got our tickets for the family as soon as I saw the link. I'm just hoping PNG fans choose to buy a lot of seats on LH's side instead of deciding not to go. It would be pretty crazy to look at the home side and see people standing for Cherokee and doing the Tomahawk Chop.

Explain that one to me please. The announcer on the PA system (a very good announcer btw) says "loss of down" on the intentional grounding. I don't recall hearing the ref's call, his field mic was on-and-off all evening. Well, as it turns out, LC didn't lose a down. The penalty was on 1st down, and the next play was 2nd instead of 3rd. Then they got a 3rd down, and a 4th down. There was no loss of a down.

There was a loss of down. Normally, if you accept a penalty the team replays the down and loses the penalty yardage.  If you decline the penalty it becomes second down, but the ball is placed at the most recent dead ball spot. With intentional grounding you lose that current down and the yardage. The loss of down was first down. Essentially it’s the same idea of being sacked. However, I did think it was a long time before they started running the clock.

  8. I think it helps the upper class and lower class, but it won't help the middle class...at least from what I have read. I read that if you are under a certain income line you would receive some amount of money each month to help. I think it would keep people who are frugal, like me, from buying some items. Perhaps I'm wrong on that, just my thoughts.

If you want a Fair Tax then how about you do this...everyone pays the same tax percentage. No matter how much you make everyone pays 10% or 12%.

The shame of it is, the Republican platform is very close to my ideology, but the implementation of it by Washington Republicans is not.

    Good post.

Good point. Unfortunately the two parties have also grown so far apart in the past 10-20 years there is nothing but hate for one another. A house divided cannot stand…if they can’t fix themselves in Washington we will collapse.

  10. Just now, LumRaiderFan said:

So can you give me one policy that the Democrats stand for that a conservative would embrace, just one?

Nope, and probably can't give you one the other way around. The point is if it was possible to do it this way we wouldn't see what we see. What percentage of people do you think actually invest time into deciding who they vote for? I'm going to guess...not a high percentage. I was the first person in my family to ever vote Republican because I started paying attention to what the candidates were talking about and what they stood for. This was way back in 2000. I know my grandparents and parents would not have agreed for the other party had they listened. They voted that way because they always had.

How much of every campaign is attacking the other person? That's a waste of time as well.

I also don't think politicians in the parties agree with all the policies in their party. They are just a member of that party because they agree with the majority of the policies.

  11. So what would voting look like if we removed names and parties from people? They spoke on their beliefs and their agenda's but we couldn't see their faces. Their history of what they have and haven't supported was shown next to their candidacy (we know a great majority of people aren't going to try and research this). I bet we would find different people in offices all over the country. Too many people vote on parties, or for a name, or against a name, etc. A lot of people vote for a certain party because that's what their parents voted for. I would be willing to be it people really took a neutral approach from the beginning...we would see different results in a lot of elections.

UIL has made the state championships an event, not just a game. This is the magic of it all. So many people, like myself, make it a tradition to travel up and spend the entire weekend celebrating the greatest sports event there is, TXHSFB. The coaches and fans need to realize, if you make it to state, you are going to be showcased in an arena where a lot of eyes will be on you. If you go back to centralized locations with individual games, all of that pagentry goes away. Do you think Clemson is concerned about having to travel to California to play USC in the national championship game if that is how the schedule falls? No. They probably don't like it, but they're not going to petition to have that game played in Missouri rather than at SoFi.

They can make it an event, it doesn’t mean I have to like it more than a centralized location. Coaches and players probably love it. I just think there are a lot of fans that can’t make the trip that might make the trip if it was centralized. Also having games start at 11 and 3 on weekdays makes it a lot harder for fans to get there. Some people might not be able to get off work during the week that would be able to make it on a Friday or Saturday night.

  13. I don’t like all the state games being at one place. I know I’m probably in the minority in this situation and it’s great for the fans of high school football (not necessarily the fans of the two teams playing), but way too often the travel difference for the two teams it too big of a gap. I liked it when the two coaches decided. I think if each game was more central to the two teams playing more fans from those teams would be attending. I might be wrong, but that’s my belief.

I have fought for my life including having a gun to the side of my head during the fight. I never made a sound that I know of. I was too busy to think how to get out of a really bad situation. When you start screaming it is probably over for you because you have now given up and screaming is all that is left. Basically you have gone into pure panic mode (which absolutely exists) and that may be your only response left.

We have probably all seen crazy or horrific videos of shooting, stabbing,  car crashes, etc. and it sometimes amazes me that there are a few people who will just stand and scream or maybe run and scream.  I think for possibly a majority of people, screaming isn’t what they will do but everyone responds differently. I agree that a lack of screaming is not an automatic piece of evidence that there is some sort of coverup or bogus alibi from others on scene. That can’t be discounted however. Either scenario is possible.

Let’s play everybody’s favorite game, what if. What if the victims didn’t scream? What if they did but (and remembering intoxication may have been involved):

    1.  All bedroom doors (including the persons not killed) were shut, knocking out about 90% of the sound.

    2. The perpetrator(s) shut the victim’s door, then put his/her hand over the victim’s mouth.

    3. The perpetrator used a pillow.

    4. The people not killed were truly that intoxicated. I have seen people so intoxicated that they had a cigarette in their hand and it had burned them and they did not wake up.

    5. The people not killed had the television on while in an intoxicated state.

    6. The people not killed had ear buds in listening to music.

    7. And so on.

After reading hundreds, if not thousands of threads about crimes or suspicious circumstances, I am usually in wonder on how people are drawing their conclusions or (usually) assumptions. Most times there is nothing in a news article to back up their stance.  They might be 100% correct however there is nothing known publicly that shows the claim or assumption. Even more interesting is how a complete assumption by one person will be repeated by another and then become “fact”. It is at times accompanied by, “Well I read…..”.

Yes you did. You read an opinion by a person that had no clue but then justified it by saying you read it. Then your statement gets repeated….

In this forum over the years I have seen conclusions on big news incidents locally. I will go back try to read about the incident from different news media outlets.  Many times I can’t find a single bit of information backing up a claim.

I have gone off on a tangent but I agree with the FBI agent (as an example, I am assuming you read jt :)), not screaming (or I will add, not hearing any) doesn’t prove anything.

Haha...yes it was an article I read on FoxNews about the FBI agent. I do not normally watch the news or read anything online, but I'm really curious in this case.

A police officer who I worked with was at a public information/community relations school in Houston. I think it was mostly for the police but maybe other spokespersons could attend. It is a school to learn to put out news releases, conduct press conferences, etc.

As one of his lessons (basically homework) for the next day he was given a set of facts known to him about a crime scene and he was supposed to write a press release. It may have been like, police called to a report of shots fired. They found a man shot 3 times with a 9mm and blah blah blah…. Lots of details.

So as part of his homework, he called me. I wrote a basic press release and sent it him. I left out most of the details of what the police knew. The reason is that the law on statements by a suspect (basically a confession), requires certain rules, most of which is being able to corroborate (I think the wording is establish guilt) the statement. You can’t do that with information that was released to the public. Details such as caliber of a weapon, number if times shot or stabbed, which room, etc. cannot be used. Everybody knows those answers if you out it on the 6 o'clock news.

So the next day in class the instructor (of all things, a news reporter) chose my friend’s release to read to the class on what NOT to do. It was read anonymously so as not to single a person out. The reason that it was wrong in the instructor‘s opinion, was because he did not have nearly enough details that were known to the officer writing the press release. My friend later told me that he spoke up in class and identified himself as the author. He the cited the law on statements and why it was unwise (but not illegal) for the police to release certain information until a warrant is obtained (then it is public anyway).

He said the instructor put that press release on the table and went to the next one. The instructor didn’t even make a commitment….😂

It isn’t against the law to release most information to the public (except such as the name of a juvenile suspect) but it isn’t always wise either.

I guarantee in this case they have clues but aren’t going to release them at this point.

One statement I read from a FBI agent said, "people aren't necessarily going to scream when they are fighting for their lives. This isn't a tv show or movie." I found that interesting. I had never considered that if you are battling for your life screaming for help might not automatically happen. If someone was awaken from their sleep while being attacked, would you agree with this?

I like it. Now just need to do something about that DH spot. I've heard rumors about Nimmo and Conforto. Market value for them on Spottrac is pretty high. I would prefer Nimmo out of the two if they are going to do that. I like the idea of bringing Yuli back for 5-7 million. Something about that man in the playoffs and he's a big part of the culture. Abreu and Yuli could be the 1B/DH option on most days. You could put Yordan as DH and play Myers in the OF on some other days. We shall see what they do, but I do think they sign Nimmo, Conforto, Brantley, or Yuli for a positional/DH spot.
