Any school can opt to play up in any classification. You just cannot play down a class. I believe there are actually 2 schools playing 5A that have 3A numbers.

When the next realignment comes (2014) if LaMarque were to still have 3A numbers, they can still opt to stay up or go down where their enrollment puts them.

It is crazy to see that three of the four playoff spots in 20-4A can be wrapped up after this weekend. In a district that usually comes down to week 10, with 2-4 teams vying for for at least 2 spots, it's quite surprising that we could have all four spots wrapped up before that final week of the regular season (with three coming this week). In all honesty, I see these three teams clinching this week: 20-4A [b]Nederland[/b] can clinch a playoff spot with a win and an Ozen loss [b]Vidor[/b] can clinch a playoff spot with a win and an Ozen loss [b]Livingston[/b] can clinch a playoff spot with a win and an LC-M loss I believe Nederland will win their game against Lumberton and Ozen will lose to Livingston. Vidor will beat Central (again, Ozen loses to Livingston) Livingston will beat Ozen and LCM will lose to PNG. That will have Nederland, Vidor and Livingston in, with PNG only needing to win next week to clinch that final spot.

Unless HISD forces the 5-6 schools with 3A numbers to go down to 3A, I see LaMarque being put in a 3A district in Region IV. If those HISD schools do drop down, then LaMarque could be put in that district and remain in Region III.

I look at this way, unless something drastically happens over there at LaMarque to stop the drop in enrollment, 3A will not have to worry about them for very long.  ;) In four years time, LaMarque has dropped from 1200 to now 741. At that rate they will only be 3A for just these next two years, then down to 2A. I also believe that with this dramatic drop in enrollment, the talent level will drop as well. LaMarque has some bigger issues over there that has nothing to do with sports. School district is rated unacceptable and seems to be a lot of internal problems as well. Losing almost 500 students (just over a third of the enrollment) in just 4-5 years, is very alarming and that is not a good thing, even though it drops them in classification.
