This from Lumberton Assistant Coach Matt Pace: Gotta love when people make excuses. We didn't play good tonight. Had 3 starters with the flu. But no excuses silsbee jumped on us played better. We didn't play tough tonight. Simple as that. Silsbee wasnt dirty they play tough defense. People got to stop making excuses for poor play.

The deal with the refs ANY time when playing Silsbee is simple. If they come out calling a loose game (like they did tonight) it is hard for any team to handle their pressure. The refs could have easily called 20-25 fouls on silsbee in the first half. Their aggressive defense turns into fast break points that other teams can’t keep up with. If the refs come out and call a tight clean game, silsbee has to back up and not play AS aggressive. Silsbee was NOT playing dirty. They were playing how they are taught to play the game from the age of 6 in little dribblers.

Dirty??? No playing fast aggressive defense. Haven’t seen anything close to dirty. Best I have seen the Tigers look in a while.

Come on guys, don’t try to make this ok by saying everyone does it. There’s a huge difference in sign stealing on the field and using technology to do so. If the catcher is dumb enough to put 1 finger down while I’m on 2nd, that’s on him and is part of the game. If I’m using a camera in centerfield to show the signs of the catcher then using some other form of technology in the dugout to receive those signs, that’s cheating.

Wasn't going to do this game anyways. Had planned on doing LC-M at Hamshire-Fannett. A much more important game.

and I'm not saying coaches dont make a difference because they do... But if Team A has 50% better personnel than Team B....Team B better have a 50% coaching advantage....and to be honest in most gigs in Texas teams are too well coached to be at that sort of disadvantage when it comes to x's and o's.....

I don’t come over here to the basketball thread too often, but I’m quite surprised to see our town making excuses for us getting whooped by Silsbee. Ain’t no excuse in the book acceptable except the fact that Silsbee is just way better. I thought that was common knowledge. Refs? Dirty play? Come on man! We could pay the refs off and pay Silsbee to play a loose zone defense and still get beat...

I usually sit on the visitor side at Silsbee home games. Every time aggressive defense is played I hear people in the stands, usually who don’t understand the game, say it is dirty play.

And I know how Lumberton peeps are when they are losing. It's not dirty play. Just aggressive defensive play. Seen it too many times. I mean, your source told you that Lumberton had 10 fouls in first half but a Lumberton person who is actually there stated otherwise. Silsbee had 10 fouls in 1st half and Lumberton had 5.

So now we have a 3 way tie for 2nd, 3rd, 4th in 22-2A. Garrison, San Augustine and Tenaha are 10-4. Looks like there will be some important games played at Tenaha Playoff Preview.

Assuming they take care of business tonight vs warren they ll be #2. They ll get woodville or central heights....which I could see them winning but then comes coldspring in 2nd rd.

I honestly think most of the people that post negative things about Hefner are old schoolers. I’m a old schooler myself and back in the 90’s when you had a big D1 recruit on a team they dominated the game. They would score 30 plus a game no mater if they were doubled teamed or not. They stuck out like a sore thumb but times have changed. You look at the total makeup of Hefner and he has all the intangibles to become a big time player. He has a lot of things going for him that you can’t teach but he also has a lot of improving to do on the offensive end. He missed several layups, jumpers and free throws that he will have to learn to make if he’s going to have a successful college career which he’s capable of doing but he’s not there at this point. The bright side is he will have at least 4 more years to improve.
