The 48 yd FG, the fake punt, and the WR pass...they converted all three. If any one of those fails, WOS wins. On the fake punt, they shifted two WRs to the strong side, we moved over to cover, and they threw to the other side where the player was uncovered. On the WR pass, the receiver was covered well, but made a good catch in traffic. They made the plays they HAD to make. All of them. The 48 yarder was the biggest play of the game. I don't know if any team has ever scored 18 points on WOS in the 4th Q. Congratulations Silsbee.

I didn't understand some of the offensive playcalling man. Sad thing is on 4th and inches late the kids were begging to go for it and they punted. Unbelievable.

They have a good shot. They just scored 35 points against the best defense in the state. The place where the Tigers had the edge was in the kicking game and that proved to be decisive. Our place kicker scored 10 points and sent most kickoffs into the endzone. Other than that it was a toss up. Clearly it was the breaks and the big plays that decided that game. As Yankees pitcher Lefty Gomez said back in the 30's, "I'd rather be lucky than good." Anyway, It's been a great two years. Even if both games had gone the other way it still would have been great. But now Carthage has moved down into Div II and all bets are off. We could both be in for a dry spell. Our last debacle against them still hurts. It was like Pearl Harbor. We had no warning.

Yep, complete brain fart on that one. It was the correct call.

Well, that loss last night still stings pretty dang bad. It does make it better knowing we didn’t lose to an inferior team. Awesome season young Mustangs, keep your heads up! Lots of young talent on that team!! Congrats to Silsbee, y’all pulled it off again. I will never lump an entire fan base off what a handful of fans say or do. I have extreme respect for WO-S football and all that surrounds it. Also have great respect for some of their fans here on this site. WOSGrad, griff, Gasilla, GUNHO, WO-S 89. Mad respect. But there are a few (and everybody has them, including Silsbee) that made comments in the "smack" thread (for a lack of better words) that showed zero respect for Silsbee football. You know who you are. Comments like "game will be over by halftime", "Silsbee will not score more than 14", "Tigers aren't tough enough". Score predictions like "42-14", "28-7", etc. etc. For those few I say this: HOW BOUT DEM TIGERS!!!!!!!!! 3-0 BABY!!!!!!

I was at the game. I am just telling you what I saw. Not taking away anything away from the Kids but if you ask the Silsbee Head Coach if he would love to be in the situation they were in last night and being forced to capitalize on the plays that got them back into the game I am pretty sure he would say no. I could care less what you predicted. I saw 2 evenly matched teams playing last night and one team that was fortunate to pull that game out. If you couldn’t see that your fooling yourself. Happy for The Silsbee kids being able to pull it out.

Nederland's team as a whole will be much better in the long run for playing without Hefner for a bit. And they'll need to be because PA is a monster and Barbers Hill seems much better than anticipated. I think the long, skinny post has really improved.

It's simple to explain, destiny took a hand? The next two weeks will confirm that one way or another. One thing I know for sure, it was the zaniest 4th quarter I've ever seen. Even though the deficit was never more than 11 the comeback seemed bigger, almost epic. A season full of unlikely plays in one quarter.

Actually, Mike and I just got off the phone about that and he told me that he and Gary had discussed that very issue before tonight's game. And the conclusion is this: Gary and John's broadcast is first and foremost a WO-S broadcast and it is tailored toward Mustang fans and the sponsors of the KOGT broadcast. By the same token, Mike and Tim's broadcast is first and foremost a Silsbee broadcast and it is tailored toward Tiger fans and the sponsors of the SETXsports broadcast. Both have been used by Texan Live and will be for the foreseeable the future but know that neither will change the tenor of their broadcast simply because it is being used as audio for a Texan Live game.

I remember watching wos play Cuero a few years back in the semifinals I believe. 4th and 1, coach T goes for it and JD throws a 40 yard bomb for a td.. where was those guts at tonight?

It wasn't 5 TD's, it was 4 TD's and 2 field goals and one very exciting and unusual looking 2 point conversion to tie the game with only a few minutes left. It was a strange 4th quarter. You kind of had to be there. WOS seemed to be in control with a 28 - 17 lead going into the 4th and then the wheels just came off. Big plays, unlikely plays, a 48 yard field goal, a fake punt that shouldn't have worked, a lateral option pass that shouldn't have worked. A Tiger defense that had been porous all night suddenly stiffened into a brick wall. It was just one of those things. Fate took a hand.

I know why, it’s because some people were used to high flying offense and no defense. Some people would rather win 51-50 than to control the ball and keep defense on the sideline, thus helping the defense play better when on the field.

...I called a Silsbee win by a score. Matter if fact, on social media, I called it by 7. You see, it was big plays by kids and also gutsy playcalling by coaches late in that game. I'm not buying that football gods stuff here...

I attended this game and on paper, WO-S had all the pieces to cause Silsbee all kinds of trouble. Gales is a man. #4 and #7 are speed demons. The QB wasn't bad. Late in this game, I don't know if you wan to say Silsbee played lights out or WO-S regressed, but it looked like a little of both. Almost to the point where WO-S played too conservative when up late by 2 scores. You have to keep the foot on the gas and put a team away. 2 wide open dropped passes hurt, but Silsbee had their problems, especially the Thrown INT and the fumble on the kickoff. The Moment the Silsbee kid kicked that 48 yard FG, the whole momentum changed, and something shouldn't been done about it ,but it wasn't. Hell of a Game, Stangs. Lots of good looking kids and I know a lot of them will be back. Silsbee, live it up this weekend, but Mondy, it's all business again. The goal is the Title and we can't let What Cuero do what they did last year. Couple of things I Noticed though: 1. WO-S fans were leaving mid 4th quarter. What's up with that? 2. There was tons of fans there, but still ample amount of room on the top levels of both sides. 3. Coach Smith outcoached Coach T in the 4th quarter. 4. Silsbee's three headed monster didn't disappoint. 5. Thanks, @RaiderGirl2010 for the great seats. 6. Why did WO-S go away from the short comeback routs? Silsbee was playing 15 yards off. 7. The fake punt was a thing of beauty. 8. Shout out to the WO-S and Silsbee players for keeping their cool after the spell there where the officials was letting the game get out of control. I follow UW pretty closely after living in Seattle for over a decade at one time. He said that he had projects in the works related to teaching leadership principles to groups of people. He'll also be a liaison to the UW athletic department. He's only 55, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he'll coach again, but he said that he'd "like to not coach again." Everyone there seems to think that Jimmy Lake could be just as effective as Petersen was. He did a lot of the recruiting and has sent multiple guys from his defenses to the NFL.

I was hoping Fairfield would join 11 3A after I found out Franklin dropped to D2. Tarkington makes more sense though from a travel perspective. Elkhart will possibly stay in 11 3A as well.
