Very proud of this group of Dogs! Great job and great game last night. We went toe to toe with an outstanding Dawson team. I loved our aggressiveness on offense all night. Even when we came up short on the 4th down on our own 20 it showed them we meant business tonight! Defense stiffened up and stopped them on the 1 for no points. Only call I did not like was the fake punt in a 2 point game. That play never seems to work. Overall, a great team effort and a great ride! Ready for next year!

Great season! I liked the risky calls the coaches made (4th & 1, fake punt, flee flicker etc) you have to take risk. The defense proved all year they can shut you down, that allows you to take risk.

Great job by Seth Barrow making tough catches over the middle and to Carson for making the throws in tight spots.  I do not know how many tackles Korbin Stampley had but he was all over the field. Great job by all the dogs.

There some post talking about the late penalties, but I will tell you that there other situations throughout the game that do not get that attention. Football is the ultimate team sport, team wins & loses together. No individual or one specific play lost the game.

If you go by the starters that are listed in the News Papers, then you are being deceived... Nederland plays pretty close to platoon ball. Someone mentioned that there are some key positions to fill, well... they've already been filled and tested, all season long... now we're about to reload with some new added talent.  Vidor, on the other hand, has some key positions to fill.

I totally agree with you.  The paper got it wrong.  They will be adding some good new talent and that will just make the Dogs get stronger. Awesome season too bad it ended. They will be back next season can't wait for that!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Tough to watch our kids lose this game. The Dogs had a much more talented and flat out better team beaten, and could have won it,,, but 5 points given away,,, a Barry Switzer moment, and back to back illegal procedures on a 4th and less than a yard turned 4th and 11,,,, and to Dawsons credit a beautiful bootleg play that left the Dogs secondary in the fetal position sucking their thumbs ,,,, did em in.

The kids played a fantastic game though, some great defensive stops and some clutch plays on offense to keep drives alive. In hindsight although it felt like we SHOULD have won last night,, really it was an over achievement to get this far and it was yet again a joy to watch another great season with OUR FIRST DC IN OVER 40 YEARS!!, with the best defense we have seen in over a decade.. Next season should be incredible,,  Great season Dogs!!

Explain. I think most would disagree with you.

First, it's an opinion so who cares who agrees...  ;)

I just felt like the offense has struggled to find itself all season. Been watching high school football a long time and most 11-1 teams have stout defense (which the Dogs had until they slumped from the lumberton game on until last week) and if not a high functioning offense at least a methodical consistently productive offense. Our offense never really found a rythm all season. Blocking was not great, play calling was well, not great and there was too many situations where they were buried on third down and then somehow converted in desperate situations... That's not how truly great teams get it done.. They are methodical, and they know exactly what their game plan is and they control the pace of the game. That was never the case, we were always playing to get out of trouble. I've seen what a well oiled offensive machine looks like and the Dogs, although they played well, have a long way to go to be unbeatable in the playoffs. we are close, but not there yet. Something's gonna have to change for the better offensvely to win the whole thing. Defensively, we are close too, just stop giving up those big plays and you are as good as any defense in the state.

I thought the entire team played great last night. I would like to single out Troy Benjamin and say how tough a runner he truly is. Those Dawson players were twice his size and he was still lowering his head and plowing through them. I was very impressed. He has been running like that all season.

Thanks Troy.

Give me a team with that kind of defense and I'll predict them to go 3 deep into the playoffs every year. Calling it an over-achievement would be selling that team short of how good they were.

Just wanted to know what do the Nederland players and fans think of the Dawson team?
Since you asked, I thought it was really classless for the entire Dawson team to come to midfield during pre-game warm-ups and taunt the Nederland fans!  Totally useless in high school competition, and, can lead to what transpired between Ozen/LM...  thanks to the Nederland coaches, that did not happen.

I was very impressed with the skill position players for Dawson on offense and their overall team speed. They can hit for a big play at anytime. The QB has great touch on the deep ball and some great targets. On defense, I was also impressed with Jeffires #24 at the corner position. He and Kimler had a great battle all night. I think the game vs Angleton will be a shootout. I was not overly impressed with the D and Angleton is potent on offense. I think the better team won, but I thought Ned played really well and with any breaks could have won the game. Dawson was the best team Ned faced this year. Good luck next week.

I agree with you Forum. I guess Michael's expectations were too low and dont know the players on the team. I knew this group would be very good. But like he said about another post... "First, it's an opinion so who cares who agrees...  ;)"

Buzz,I appreciate your support for our dogs. Please help others how to be smart fans.Do not cheer when your team is about to run a play.I felt like our fans could have been a contributing factor to the motion penalties last night.Again I appreciate your support. For the Dogs, thanks for the exciting football games this season !

Three thoughts on Dawson, 1. Great team speed and big play ability, 2. Good offenses will move the ball on them, great offenses will shred them.  3. Don't come taunt the Nederland sideline like some thug when you're going into the lockerroom behind, unfortunately, that set an image in my mind for your entire program even if that kid doesn't represent all of your kids.

Nederland played well enough to win, just didn't, that's playoff football against a very good team.  Congrats to a senior class that raised the bar and expectations in Nederland again.  With the trip made this year and the stable of horses coming back along with some names we will all become familiar with from the undefeated freshman team, this program is looking for big, big things next year.  Not to slight any of our other valuable seniors, but the only position I'm concerned about next year is Center, Kanton Richard was about as good as they come, he especially, along with our other seniors, I tip my cap to you boys.  You put your own mark on the brand, nice ride boys, nice ride.

Dawson has always done that since the first game in 2008, it is nothing against Nederland, just kinda trying to get inside their heads, sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't but the Dawson players are more disclipined than the LM/Ozen Players because if they get into any kind of Altercation with another teammate/player they are kicked off the team, I know coach Wells and his coaching staff very well.

Doesn't make it any less bush league. I understand yelling and barking at the other team as gamesmanship, but yelling at the fans is pointless.

Dawson has better athletes than anyone Nederland has played. The better football team won the game in my opinion. However, punch Dawson in the mouth like Nederland did, and I think you can shake them up mentally.

If the Dawson staff is so strict, why was #7 allowed to play after he came to Nederlands sidelines at the end of the half and outright taunted our coaching staff. If they are so strict why was he not benched? Looked pretty crunk to me.

The really retarded part was his team was LOSING!

I dont think the defense overachieved, but because of the offenses inability to consistantly move the ball without heavily relying on big plays and some very lucky moments to get them out of 3rd or 4th and long situations I would say they over achieved. They got it done and I was super excited for them, but with such talent on offense all the returning starters for next year I bet you see a lot more definite ball control and more 3rd and shorts to convert, and less of the breathless moments where the ball is being thrown from 3rd and 10+ into double and triple coverage where a little skill and a LOT of luck saved us about half of the time and the other half the ball was intercepted. Thats no slight against Carson, I thought he did a great job of managing impossible situations that he was put into by some interesting play calls that put him into 3rd and a mile. Kudos to him for making it happen in impossible sitautions.

Let me start off by saying congrats to the Dogs for an awesome season!! You all fought hard to the last tick. We look forward to watching the Dogs go even further next season. Now let me address my concern. I have been so embarrassed at the fans at these playoff games. These boys work hard all week getting ready for Fridays and Saturdays, the least that we as fans and parents can do is support them. I'm not talking about going to the game...to watch. I'm talking about getting off your butts and on your feet for these kids! On 3rd and 4th downs, inside the red zone, on kickoffs, and any other crucial plays. Even on defense! We have a great defense. They have stopped good offenses time and time again. Now...if you have been on your feet and cheering them on, then I'm not aiming this toward you. Last night I had an 82 year old lady on her feet every time something big was happening. So this is something to consider. Let's turn the Bulldog fans into our own 12th man!! The next time that you go to a Nederland athletic event, think about how good that it would make the team feel if they saw all of us on our feet for them! Again, I say thanks Dogs for a great season!!
AWESOME POST!!  I actually had someone tell us to SIT DOWN after we stopped them on the 1 and had a 50 yard return!! UM we are not at home sitting on the couch get off your butt and cheer for our boys!!!! Can't wait until next year!  GO DOGS

Like I have said before if there is any altercation with the other team meaning, physical fighting, the coaches don't care  if you taunt. that is how coach wells has done it back to his PHS and LM days, that is really how teams play in 24-4A...
