I hope the COVID-19 numbers have spiked and we can get this thing down. These kids deserve a right to earn a scholarship but have to consider their saftey 1st. Again I could see a scenario where there isnt any football until late September.

You may be correct on that. Looks like that’s one of a few possibilities.

they should do away with ALL athletic scholarships and only give scholarships for academics.

Many of the more intellectuals are against Sports of any kind.   Could some kids playing football get Coronavirus?   Sure.  Could they get it anyway?   Sure.   And who’s the least likely to have adverse affects from it - a teenager in good physical condition.

If I thought HS football would be more dangerous from a Covid aspect, I’d be against it, but I don’t see it.  But hey, I’m just another Yahoo with an opinion.  Kids are going to be around other kids.

Athletics bring in more review than professors. Why do that? Texas, Ohio St, Bama, and Clemson football bring in the money to that makes the school go. I would vote to pay kids $2500 a game.

you can still have sports. just do give athletic scholarships.  you have athletes at colleges that can't pass a basket weaving 101

If you arent giving sports scholarships, they star kids wont come. They dont come, your team is trash. Team is trash no televised games. Zero sponsorships. There will never be a time that college doesnt pay for athletic talent. That's your revenue generation.

The high school athletes playing is the most important thing. They must find a way to have a season, even if it is delayed.  Even if there are no fans allowed. No doubt I would be disappointed in not seeing high school football this year.  I have only missed 4 total PNG football games in 55 years.  I could survive not seeing the games, but the players need the opportunity to showcase their talents.  Praying God will overcome this virus, quickly!

They have a right. Excell in the classroom = scholarships.

Real life > HS football. (And that comes from a die hard HS Football fan)

That is exactly what is ruining HS Football.

    • Whatever happened to educating people so that they don’t go off the deep end pursuing an incident that shouldn’t be political in the first place? Seems everyone is looking for their “trigger”moment. The dumbing down of America has taken its toll. Anyone who would hold this against her is doing so out of spite and for political gain. Said people need to be ignored.
    • You won’t get an argument from me that this won’t hurt her nationally but I don’t think this will hurt her in SD or even an appointment in a Republican administration.  I’m sure she saw backlash from some, apparently not from folks like you and me, which is significant, but like I said, I appreciate the honesty.
    • Appreciate the confidence.  Why don’t we see how this works out for her.  Going great so far.  She MIGHT be able to get re-elected in South Dakota next election, but if a good candidate runs against her in the Republican primaries she may be in trouble.  I don’t think there’s a chance in hades she gets the VP nomination, and if for some reason Trump is dumb enough to give it to her, his chances of winning are probably over.  On a positive note, maybe DeSantis gets it now?  If they win and do a decent job then we’d have a VP ready to run for president in four years with a good shot of winning.
    • I honestly don’t have an issue with it.  I grew up around livestock.  We had a neighbor lose nearly 30 animals in a 3-week period before they caught the dogs doing it. Those dogs needed to die.  I was there when my uncle killed a dog that was eating his chickens… didn’t bother me. If one of my dogs ever bites one of my kids it’ll be dead.  Immediately.  But some things are better left unsaid, and probably 90% of the country loves dogs, with only a small fraction of them being able to relate to why she did what she did.
    • If only she was as politically savvy as you. 🙂
