SILSBEE VS. YATES BROADCAST/SATURDAY AT 12:45!

Recommended Posts

Silsbee didn't have the same passion as they did during the two championship seasons.  Everything was 3peat, without taking into account the grind necessary to bring that about.  It is not that easy.  After winning state two times it is hard to maintain that edge.  Meanwhile if you run into an opponent that is both talented and hungry you can get your hat handed to you.

Yeah hard to beat a school 3x in the Regional Finals 3 years in a row. Yates deserved the Dub.

First let me say what a incredible run for those Silsbee seniors.  Best of luck to Adams and McCain at Austin Peay!   Been a pleasure watching you guys the last 4 years.  Glad you are graduating. :)

Now anyone complaining about refs is just plain foolish.  Yates won the game fair and square.  Is Yates better than Silsbee.  No, I don’t think so.  Had a better day than Silsbee and that was with foul trouble all game long.  That’s just the way it goes sometimes.

Silsbee should have never lost this game.! But they did.. Great season Silsbee... Will be back"

It’s been a heckuva run.  Senior classes like the one Silsbee has come along rarely if ever.  But you’re right.  Silsbee will still be plenty good and will be a factor most years.  But I think Tiger fans either appreciate now, or will come to appreciate in the coming years, just how special the Class of 2019 has been.

Hell of a run. Winning 3 consecutive state championships is very hard. Ask Kountze... won 2 state titles in a row and then lost in the regional finals on their way to a third. Kountze also had the better team and shouldn’t have lost that game. Then the following year they won state again. Nothing to hang your heads about Silsbee.

Great post. And I know it wasn’t easy for you.  No the refs didn’t cost us the game. Yates took it and we helped a little.  2 techs and a few unforced turnovers.  It’s hard to blame the refs when Yates had so many in foul trouble.  The only issue I had was how physical it got down low and some of those charge calls.  I was right behind one basket and had a neutral fan in front of me that had problems with a few of them as well.  Nothing you can do but play on.  Yates defense was the difference today, smothered us enough to win it.

Yates makes their FT's and can really get hot from behind the arc. Tigers played a late game last night and lost their legs today. It happens but great run by the Tigers, the pipeline isn't near as full going forward but they still got the General.

Silsbee played the late game last year and won, come up with another excuse

These young men have been a very special group since they were  young boys with high expectations    They definitely have given not just their community and school a fun ride but all of us basketball junkies have enjoyed it also.  Most schools would just like to make the playoffs but these kids are on a different level.  Didn’t go their way today.  Lots of things you could point at that they could’ve done better today but what they’ve achieved together no one can ever take from them.  This group has set the bar high and its been fun to watch.  Congrats on one hell of a ride. Keep grindin.

Down through the years, the goal in my mind was for Silsbee to win state.  A lot of talent has worn the Silsbee uniform but it was hard to take the lid off the goal.  We were over shadowed by Kountze, even though they were in smaller classification, Hardin Jefferson.  Maybe could a woulda won a trophy except for the PA Lincoln dynasty. That lasted seemed like ten years.  Then all those great inner city started dropping down to Silsbee's classification. Schools like Yates, Wheatley, D Lincoln, Carter, D Madison.  It's a bunch of them.

Then over the last 5 seasons or so a championship was close despite all of that.  Silsbee finally won two state championships.  Might not sound like much but it is definitely better than none.  Psychologically the lid is off the basket.  At least it should be.  Some of those youngsters have been watching.  They know a state championship can be won in Silsbee.  Sooner or later it will happen again.

    • He actually had a pretty solid year for a sophomore starting in that district. I can assure you, it hasn't hurt his recruiting at all and that will only improve with the move back to the Wack.
    • If Crumedy eventually has bigger aspirations than being in Jasper, every aspect of the program will be looked at when someone interviews him for any job. He knows that. The mindset needs to be that any time someone wears a Jasper uniform, that they're doing everything they possibly can to win. It matters.
    • This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up It's a poll but I could definitely see this as realistic.   From the article: Catholics in the United States have swung dramatically against President Biden in recent years, now boasting a significant statistical break towards his GOP challenger. Pew Research released on Apr. 30 a report exploring support for presidential candidates sorted by religious affiliation. The poll found that 55% of Catholics support or lean towards supporting former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head against Biden. Conversely, only 45% of Catholics support Biden in the same one-on-one pairing. The 12% margin of support in favor of Trump marks a significant shift from 2020, when he held an extremely narrow lead — 50% to 49%. Biden currently leads among Hispanic Catholics with a narrow 49%-47% split, but the close contest marks a major shift rightward for the demographic. In 2020, a similar poll from Pew Research found Hispanic Catholics preferred Biden to Trump with a staggering 67%-26% split.
    • You said a lot there. Truthfully, that is the root of the issue. Who cares what a kid thinks about how coaches are running a program? Kids play, coaches coach. For some reason, parents have this backward in a lot of places and its wreaking havoc.
