I think what he is trying to say is he wants the same coverage as West Brook ,central, or ozen gets if they were playing in Houston they would send a crew out that far to cover those teams or if they send a crew to Baytown and Dayton to cover kountze and buna tonight I guess he wants that same spotlight coverage for the #1 team in the state.

First, those three teams you listed are Beaumont teams. Because of readership(Enterprise) and viewership (Channel 6 and 12) those guys are pretty much required to cover those teams as often as they can. As for if a sports writer or tv crew goes to Baytown or Dayton tonight, that's understandable since its a much closer drive than Huntsville. These guys do have a budget they work by and are pretty spread thin as it is.

Gone are the days of newspapers with a staff of 6 sports writers who can cover more and we are down to just two TV stations locally, not the 4 we used to have, so less TV anchors to get out and cover games.

The #1 ranked team gets their fair share of media coverage.

And before anyone rebutts with "but other teams get more coverage in football". Well folks, that's apples and oranges. That's simply how the cookie crumbles. High school sports in the state of Texas. Football is king!

I have avoided this statement for a couple of weeks now. I for one think we have seen our fair share of coverage. But since our incident was brought up, the one thing among our coverage since it has died down is seeing pictures online when covering us, that are pics from the game that involved the conflict.  Maybe no one else notices but it just keeps bringing it up in my mind.  And one has stated that we as a team have not been viewed negatively, that's not entirely correct.  We have been involved in a few of these over the years and although only the one player has been singled out, I have heard some rumblings about "Silsbee".  It's up to us to make that stigma dissapear.

Chron.com has some nice pictures of silsbee that I have saved to my phone check it out , they have a pretty good write up about the tigers also they are anticipating a silsbee,Yates matchup that will get plenty of media attention maybe more Houston area coverage that our local Beaumont,Port Arthur ,coverage but check out chron.com and make no mistakes about it the rest of the state 6a own down knows who the Silsbee tigers are tigers just have to finish the deal and bring home the gold.  Good luck tigers.

The great equalizer for Silsbee basketball and Silsbee sports in general is SETXsports, this forum.  Hats off to AAW.  I am over here in Houston and I can keep up with my favorite team, the Silsbee Tigers boys basketball team, better than I can the local Houston teams.  Many of the local neighborhood kids go to Klein Forest, or Eisenhower or Jersey Village.  I know more about the Silsbee team than I do about Klein Forest and KF is right up the street.

That's the era we live in.  The print media is drying up.  TV covers a lot of territory.  Just in sports you got all these high schools sports activities, boys and girls.  I would throw in transgender wrestling, but I'll leave that alone.

Everybody got cameras on their smart phones.  A person can buy a decent video camera and a tripod and get a spot on facebook and Voila!  You can create all the coverage you want.

    • but will he be doing contact football drills mid-season?
    • That was an awesome video!  I feel so proud of these young men.  They proved the doubters wrong.  Bellville should be proud, too.  I know it didn't end like they had hoped, but we've been there, so we can definitely empathize with them.  Great season, Brahmas!
    • Meh.. Everyone knows this. The kid that got injured wasn't lifting weights. Supposedly he was hit with a helmet in his elbow. In my opinion the kid shouldn't have been put in that situation. AD should've told the Varsity baseball players to sit that one out. I have no issues with the lifting or conditioning. However, anytime helmets/pads are on there is a higher risk of injury. This AD showed a total lack of respect for HIS baseball program.
    • Maybe.. however..  Many athletic director / head football coach have lost their job despite the athletic program as a whole being successful.. if the football team struggles.  On the other hand, when football teams are doing great but the rest of the program stinks.. AD/HFC still keeps their job. WOS.  Newton. .. programs as a whole were fairly weak during those many years of football power and very few people even knew it.  Or cared. Yet, AD/HFC kept their jobs for years. Meanwhile, I remember an AD/HFC at Barbers Hill lost his job after every program in the school won district championships and even had several team sports (baseball, softball, girls hoops, etc.) making runs at state.  But the football team was mediocre.  Fired. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that perception is reality.  And the perception is that your athletic program can suck as long as football wins.. it doesn't matter how strong the athletic program is if football sucks.
