Ty Cobb reacted to jv_coach in How the Bible just became more relevant
How the Bible just became more relevant FAITH & INSPIRATION By ANDRÉE SEU PETERSON Posted May 6, 2014, 10:42 a.m. I read 2 Thessalonians this morning and was astonished at how much the apostle Paul had learned about my life lately.
I say this tongue in cheek, of course, in the spirit in which Mark Twain allegedly quipped, “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.â€
It used to be that my eyes glazed over at the Pauline passages about persecution, like this one:
All this talk about suffering and being afflicted at the hands of some faceless people! All this talk about needing to endure it and wait for Christ! I could not relate. I had to admit that the meanderings of Paul (and Jesus) did not describe me. I had no experience of being harassed or hated for my faith, or of knowing anyone who had. It made those sections of Scripture—and therefore the whole of Scripture, to some extent—a bit alien and abstract for me.
But praise the Lord, see how much the Scriptures have “learned†about our lives in the last few years! Increasingly, our American experience has come to resemble conditions in first century Thessalonica, so that we can finally feel a part of the cloud of witnesses and the suffering saints.
A sampler: The fast-food chain Chick-fil-A is banned in Boston. (When I was a kid, if a movie or a book was “banned in Boston†it was because it was morally filthy, but nowadays a company that is not pro-same-sex marriage is unwelcome in Beantown.) Last week, CNN host Rachel Nichols, latching onto the feeding frenzy of the Donald Sterling affair, dropped the hint that the Orlando Magic’s Rich DeVos should be the next NBA owner to go, for his pro-family views.
An acquaintance recently told me that I should check out a website called “Right Wing Watch,†subtitled “A project of People for the American Way dedicated to monitoring and exposing the activities of the right wing movement.†She said my name is mentioned on it. I hardly believed the woman, but I looked and it was true.

Ty Cobb reacted to badndn in Talent To Win?
Smitty you posted this in regards to Dodge's record at Marble Falls, but the key thing missing for Dodge at MF versus the talent they are up against each week in district is the depth of athletes. MF is roughly 700-800 students smaller than the rest of its district. And they are much farther away from Austin where the other schools are and dont have alot of the in town training that is available in the offseason that CP and Leander etc. have. If you have a three star player for every 100 students and a four star kid for every 500 then MF is short handed in its athletic depth. Not many coaches that can each year coach up 7 to 9 decent players to match those great players at larger schools.
I firmly believe that this is one of the reasons you have not seen a local (Golden Triangle) 4A team make a state title run in a long time. It gets tougher each week going up against teams with 2000+ students the farther you get in the playoffs. -

You couldn't be more wrong. Being good at track and football does not mean you can play baseball. Being an athlete can help make you a more complete player but you have to have certain skills to be a baseball player. Being fast doesn't mean you can hit a baseball. Being a great football player doesn't make you a pitcher. -
Ty Cobb reacted to football in Talent To Win?
One thing we are all missing: For the most part when we talk about the two most successful programs in the area (Newton and WOS), No One else has that support. By that I mean if a kid tries to quit the football team, they are not only ostracized in the community but the vast majority of them would be in serious trouble at home. How many players would quit at other schools because of the Mustang mile, bleachers at the end of a two a day practice, etc.?

Ty Cobb reacted to football in Talent To Win?
You really need to look at the athletes!!!! You can not win the Kentucky Derby with a jackass! Show me one coach that has won consistently with little talent on the football field. The best ATHLETES do not always win, but the best football players usually do.
And yes, that usually has a lot to do with the coach.

Ty Cobb reacted to Amphibious Rodent in Talent To Win?
Can't compare high school football to college. If a good coach in high school, with good assistant coaches, fans and AD behind him. He will develop talent. And he will win. Maybe not every year, but the majority of time. If Saban went to Vandy , you can bet your boots the team would improve dramatically, year end and year out. He would get recruits, and he is evidently a good coach.
Look lets take Newton for example. There nothing in the water down there. I've tasted it. They have been winning for 40 years, the athletes are good because great coaching, they have great fan base, and support from the school system. The kids are strong, most of them where not born that way. They where developed through the system. And momma and daddy and uncles and auntie supports the coaching staff .
Most likely every school that wins consistently has similar characteristics. -
Ty Cobb got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Cowboys/Manziel ?
I really think this is just Jerry talking to make other teams draft him early. If someone takes Manziel that is one more team that doesn't draft a player that DALLAS wants and needs. Now, on the other hand, maybe there is more to Romo's back problem than we know. It also looks like Orton may be leaning toward retirement so that would leave the COWBOYS will no accomplished back-up.

Ty Cobb reacted to tvc184 in LCM Prom Bus busted by Kemah police
I think that having a few school administrators being investigated and fired for felonies that might include the theft of millions of dollars from a district with the potential for the state to come in and take over by getting rid (basically firing) of the duly elected school board and lawfully hired superintendent is quite a bit more of a story than kids in high school drinking.
One is kind of shocking and almost unheard of and the other is probably somewhat routine (but maybe not caught) in almost any high school in the country.

Ty Cobb reacted to TomEvans in Ozen head coach applicant list released
The reason that people think that BISD should be taken over by TEA is because BISD has "lack of institutional control." It has nothing to do with whether or not they hired Plez, but it does not help their situation. He might be a great coach, and he might not have done what they accused him of... The reason that he was reinstated was not because he didn't do it, but because they could not prove that he did, which is different. BISD has issues, but so does every ISD. The difference is that BISD has MAJOR issues. Millions missing, hush money being paid out, teachers and community losing trust in the leadership, now there are allegations that teachers are teaching directly to tests...
The people that it hurts the most are the children. We are cheating these kids out of an education. We are cheating them out of the opportunity to learn critical thinking. We are cheating them out of of the chance build a relationship with a coach. The kind of relationship that kids remember for the rest of their lives. When you change people every year, you will never have that opportunity. I feel sorry for the kids at Ozen, Central, and Westbrook, I feel sorry for the tax payers of BISD, and I feel sorry for the employees of this school district.

Ty Cobb reacted to stevenash in A Maxim by Maxine
I bought a bird feeder. I hung It on
my back porch and filled it with seed.
What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it, lovingly with seed.
Within a week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the continuous flow
of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table...
Everywhere!
Then some of the birds turned mean.
They would dive bomb me and try
to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.
And others birds were boisterous and
loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even sit on my
own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the
birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like it used
to be... quiet, serene....
And no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.
Now let's see...
Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care
and free education, and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
Citizen.
Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly, our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you have to wait
6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child's second grade class is
behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.
Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box;
I have to 'press one' to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are
squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for
the government to take down the bird feeder.

that is the old distraction technic.
when someone points out something your are doing wrong you distract from the real issue. you either bring up race or blame someone else for something.
vidor does have a window to throw it out of. it was painted last week by some vandals….. i saw it on the biased news :)

Ty Cobb reacted to SASQUASH22 in Plez Atkins hired as HC at Beaumont Ozen
This episode is a total embarrassment , to every tax payer in Beaumont. I am not surprised of the decision by Atkins to take legal action. That's what happens, when you have incompetent individuals running your day to day operations. Their decisions are hurting our kids and community. Personally, I don't think they give a damn. How much more of this nonsense, are we going to endure ? Before TEA steps in and put an end to this night mare. -

I just hear that name and I shudder. Banzai: Mufasa! Shenzi: Ooooh! Do it again! Banzai: Mufasa! Shenzi: Ooooh! Banzai: Mufasa, Mufasa, Mufasa! Shenzi: Ooooh! Shenzi: And it tingles me! Scar: I'm *surrounded* by idiots. -
Ty Cobb reacted to Bigcam2903 in Plez Atkins hired as HC at Beaumont Ozen
Accountability would be out of character for this Regime; requires responsible Adults. The reality of this is if the kids would have behaved as many of these people have, BISD would have the audacity to suspend/expel the kids for this sort of behavior & track record. SMH

Ty Cobb reacted to Coach85 in End of the Student athlete?
I am a huge college fan but this ruling is ridiculous. I say if they want to be considered employees of the college then they need to see what it is like to be in the work force. Go ahead and pay these kids but, cut back on the scholarship percentage and let them see what it's like to be a working man and pay for what you want......I believe an athlete that gets his tuition paid for and stays in the athlete's dorms with meals is enough for these kids. If they want spending money then let them work in the offseason and learn to save......receiving a scholarship to a college is an honor not a priveledge. Some kids now days are so spoiled they don't appreciate what is given to them, all they want is more. This is going to hurt college sports a whole lot more then help it. Big schools will even suffer in the long run. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Look what happened to the NFL since the union came in. It created a lot of greedy men who are basically playing for the money and not for the passion of the game like it should be. Same will happen in college....Just wait. -
Ty Cobb reacted to Zoneblock in Plez Atkins hired as HC at Beaumont Ozen
The biggest tragedy of all this is the kids at Ozen are the ones that suffer because of the underachievemnt of the adults in charge. No reason why Admin cant find a Quality coach to run that program there at Ozen. Shame on the admin and i feel sorry for the poor boys there left in limbo waiting for leadership.

Ty Cobb reacted to justthefax in Plez Atkins hired as HC at Beaumont Ozen
it seems to me that everyone is missing the point. if the coach really told chargois about the problem, and I believe he probably did, and chargois chose not to say anything to the board members, which appears to be true, the only conclusion is that chargois knew how toxic the topic would be and chose not to say anything because he knew the board would never go for the hire in the first place. this is not about media scrutiny - this is about a school official having knowledge about something that is apparently important to many people - and then choosing to take a road that would lead to all of this trouble. it should be the credibility of the superintendent that is being questioned, not the coach - and not the media.
this has nothing to do with Kirbyville or hull-daisetta. this is solely about a lack of leadership and a problem with credibility.
