  1. Comparing tiny Gunter to 4A D1 offenses is apples and oranges.
  2. Confirmed. Friday-Baytown Sterling 7pm Saturday-Jasper 4pm with 3rd game right after if necessary
  3. Friday in Baytown, Saturday in Jasper tentatively
  4. Hearing Thursday Saturday in Jasper. But could be home and home with Porter/PNG being considered homes.
  5. WOS wins 15-0 to advance to a one-game regional quarterfinal playoff against Tarkington.
  6. WO-S isn't the one on probation sir. You are.
  7. Here's to keeping the streak going with all the Big Three 4A Boy's Sports Champs staying in Region III... Carthage, WO-S and hopefully Silsbee. Good Luck today!
  8. Meh.. he shouldn't have done what he did. Get over it. Grats on the win and good luck tomorrow.
  9. Never mind, I was wrong, they readjusted (and speaking of that how did they go from 18 below the cutoff to 24 above after the above story was published)? but you will definitely be in 4A range this October.
  10. [Hidden Content] They were 18 below the cutoff. How were they not opted up?
  11. The UIL generally puts the cutoff between 6A/5A at around having the largest 256 schools in 6A and about the same in 5A.. 4A is somewhat of an anomaly as there are the fewest schools in the 500-1000 enrollment range. Their stated goal is to not have schools with more than twice an enrollment of each other playing competitively. Also... BISD opted Ozen up last realignment. They already should be 4A. What will they do in October? And... Scarborough was 1-9 the second year we played them lol Also... Happy Birthday WOSGrad!
  12. Well it's not actually watering it down. There already IS a 5A D1 and D2. This will just simultaneously cause travel nightmares... especially in west and south Texas and equalize teams playing against teams of equal enrolmernt. That's the real vote that was decided.
  13. WO-S was getting a ton of uninformed smack talk towards them because of how so many teams were getting blown out by them so I posted my own algorithm of strength of schedule way back during the regular season on my site for a few weeks and Silsbee was #1 even before the playoffs began. It took a while but eventually when Bridge City, Liberty and Kennedale started winning in the playoffs and WO-S kept destroying teams with better and better records that changed. WO-S didn't just play but handily beat eight 9+ win teams (some would argue Sweetwater wasn't handily, fine I'll give you that). The WO-S wins were over a 14 win team (Navarro), a 13 win team (Sweetwater), two 11 win teams (Kennedale and Giddings), two 10 win teams (Bellville and Liberty) and two 9 win teams (Robinson and Bridge City).
  14. WOS 2000 beat the 2000 4A D1 State Champ Bay City that Nederland lost to... I'm confused how you can argue Nederland 2000 when they lost to both WOS and Bay City. Greatest ever should by definition imply State Title. Nederland 1957 was special i'll give you that. They went 14-0 and only allowed 53 points AND beat Sweetwater in the State Finals. Poor Sweetwater. 0-2 against SE Texas. Nederland went 50-2-2 from 1954-1957 and 60-4-3 from 1953-1957. They didn't lose a single district game from mid-1952 until 1962 although there were some ties.
  15. Depends on your definition of what constitutes "greatest." By numbers WOS 2016 would be running away the "greatest" being the only local team to go 16-0 EVER and from their average win margin. Not a single one of those 16 games were closer than 18 points. Katy, Southlake Carroll, Celina, Lake Travis, Permian, Abilene, Wichita Falls, Stephenville, Carthage, La Marque... none of those 60+ state championship teams that those schools have had combined can say that. If you look back a few years things get a little murky though. Port Arthur Jefferson had 11 shutouts in their 1929 State Championship season (allowing only 32 points in 13 games) and 10 shutouts in their 1944 State Championship season (allowing only 53 points in 14 games). Offenses and defenses were very different back then so difficult to compare. Beaumont Hebert 1976 has a case to be made as the first previously (and at the time pretty much still was) segregated school to break the barrier and win a UIL state title undefeated 15-0. To this day that's the only local team other than WOS '87 and '16 to win at least 15 games and go undefeated. West Brook 1982 lost some games but made history as the 2nd school after Lubbock Estacado in 1968 (and still the first and only in the largest classification) to win State in their very first season of existence. Plus the whole court-ordered desegregation drama. French in 1984 was a cinderella team. Not sure I'd say greatest ever but definitely helped put a notch in Southeast Texas' record against Permian and West Texas in general. We're 1-1-1 against Permian (all in their heyday) PNG 1975, TJ 1980, French 1984. PNG 1975 and PNG in general deserves a mention as they went through a huge gauntlet. They did lose one game to South Houston but came back and beat that same team in the playoffs when it counted and went on to be the only local team to notch an actual win against Odessa Permian in the state finals. And they went 41-3 from 1975-1977 as one of the smaller schools in the largest classification in an era where one team per district made the playoffs, the maximum number of games you could play was 15, and only five trophies were handed out. They played 44 out of a possible max of 45 over those three years. WOS went 44-4 the last three years in comparison with 16 games being the max. AND last but not least.... Hull-Daisetta 1935-1939. Go check out the historical section on this site that I put up. Hull-Daisetta held the NATIONAL winning streak record of 43 consecutive wins for almost 20 years until Abilene passed them in the 1950's. They were a small school and didnt play to a state championship at that time but it's still something most people don't even know today but was a big deal when the record was broken back when. They went 11-0 three consecutive years making them the only local program that can say they were undefeated three years in a row. In a window of 19 games from 1935-1937 they outscored opponents 558-6 with 18 shutouts allowing only 6 points to Beaumont French in a playoff game.
  16. Lol you are all crazy. WOS has lost 1 district game since mid-2003, the finals won't be in Dallas next year and the 2nd round will be the toughest game just like Giddings 2014, Wharton 2015 and Robinson 2016. We have players coming up who've had varsity game time in over 45 games plus the few starters we do have returning are pretty darn good. Keep dreaming. 1987 was supposed to be a rebuilding year too.
  17. Highland Park and Abilene Wylie would never purposely put themselves in any position where they may potentially lose. It's been that way since 1938 when Highland Park pressured the UIL to split schools into 1A and 2A so they wouldn't have to play the Masonic Home Mighty Mites after they lost in the 1938 playoffs . Money talks. Notice they were the only team allowed to have fans rush the field. They also were allowed to choose to be placed in districts that included Austin, Tyler, Waco, Wichita Falls and Texarkana rather than any of the MUCH closer Dallas and Fort Worth schools in the early 1950's because that would be beneath them. That's why it's so awesome to see them lose in the playoffs.
  18. I've lived in Houston for 30 years now so know how to get around in urban areas but I still loathe DFW. I planned the getting out of the parking lot and Dallas perfectly since I knew I'd be leaving right when Friday rush hour was starting. I parked close to the exit and opted for the long walk. There was zero line to get out of the parking lot then I went south and got on I-20 which goes directly to I-45 bypassing any of the nightmare that is I-30 and downtown. Was on 45 going south by 4pm with NO traffic. That all being said I never want to have to drive there and back again. I'll plan ahead and fly instead.
