  1. Meh... i went on a rant on Twitter last night but I believe all three were overhyped. That's not the same as saying they weren't great but they all have a built up media aura around them that just wasn't true. Look up what Bay City did in 1983. They won 4A that year, not Carthage and I'd have put money on Bay City if they had faced Daingerfield. The Permian team Carter beat in 1988 lost 3 games and Carter wouldn't have even qualified for the playoffs had it been 7 years earlier. WOS played that 1985 Yates team in the 3rd round of the playoffs in the Astrodome as one of the smallest 5A teams in the state (we dropped to 4A the next year) and WOS was winning that game deep into the 4th Quarter until Yates got two very late TDs to win 19-6. I was at that game as a Junior in high school. In answer to the original thread question: Yates over Carter no question. I'd put 2003 North Shore over both of them. Only one team scored more than 7 points against them that season in the age of the Spread and no one ever seems to give them credit.
  2. Scrimmages mean nothing. Maybe WOS didn't seem to be as dominant but they still did pretty well (beat) against the predicted local 5A district favorite which has more than twice the enrollment. Only time will tell. Best of luck to the Indians. I hardly think the word garbage should be used.
  3. Let it go, I gave you one. You're welcome.
  4. 1. It's spelled Berkeley 2. I'm an M.D. so I do know how to read and write unlike some of you. 3. I'm not gonna get into an arguement with you about Trump because there's no point. 4. Have a nice day. Go Mustangs.
  5. I'm sorry but are you seriously defending right-out racist Nazis? You've got to be kidding me. There is no "white oppression" and there was never any white slavery. You're comparing apples and oranges.
  6. Neither Mauriceville nor Groves had active football programs so in my opinion Little Cypress and LC-M are the same entity just as are Port Neches and PN-G. Otherwise we'd have to make a distinction between those two pesky state titles by Port Neches in the 1950s and the one by PN-G in 1975.
  7. It's a rather unfair question to begin with. Yes, NO team closer than Harris or Galveston county can claim a winning record against WOS. WOS has 384 wins since opening in 1977. Nederland hit win 384 in 1997 after having played since 1925. I think PNG hit win 384 in 1987. But over the eras there were always dominant teams dating back to the start of the UIL in 1909. TJ and Beaumont High were superpowers in the 1920's through the 1950's with TJ winning state titles in 1929 and 1944 when only ONE champion was proclaimed in the state. Port Neches had several peaks with two state titles in the early 1950's and another spectacular four year run in the 1970's with a title in 1975. After PNG's run in the early '50s Nederland came along and won a title in 1957. In fact both Nederland and TJ hosted the state title games at home on the same day that year just miles apart with Nederland beating Sweetwater and TJ losing to Highland Park. Bridge City won a title in the mid 1960s and then in the '80s we had TJ in the title game again in 1980, West Brook winning in 1982 and French co-champs with Permian in 1984. in the lower classifications Hull-Daisetta actually held the NATIONAL winning streak record for almost 20 years not losing a game from 1935-1939 before they were surpassed by Abilene. H-D finally got a state title in 1979. Newton has won 3 and don't forget about Burkeville. Barbers Hill also won 2 when they were tiny back in the 1970s. This is just mentioning programs with hardware but with the relative population we're talking about down here compared to DFW, San Antonio and any area within 200 miles of the Rio Grande we've done pretty well consistently for over a century as a community and I take pride in that.
  8. WO-S currently has the highest winning percentage of any team in the state (much less just SETX) at 80.48% and by a large margin. We've played 479 games. Even if we went 1-20 to hit the 500 game mark we would STILL be top in the state on the list below. [Hidden Content]
  9. You are correct sir. Houston Yates is in the top 4 along with Lee, King and LaMarque.
  10. Lol... you DO have a sense of humor! LaMarque as the crow flies, C.E. King driving distance.
  11. Trivia question: Can anyone name the closest program geographically that actually has a winning record against WO-S all-time? Hint: it's not in Orange, Jefferson, Newton, Jasper, Liberty, Chambers or Hardin Counties.
  12. Until Gilmer gets a defense we always have a chance. How's the Jasper matchup looking?
  13. 4AD1 #1 Carthage #9 Henderson #10 Kilgore #19 Bridge City #20 Silsbee 4AD2 #2 West Orange-Stark #5 Giddings #9 Jasper #11 Bellville #15 Liberty #19 Lorena 3AD1 #14 Woodville #15 La Marque 3AD2 #4 Newton
  14. Carthage is gonna have one of their strongest squads ever this year. I'm pretty sure they will be #1 across the board preseason in 4A. Silsbee will have a rough time if they run in to them again. As far as WOS is concerned we shall see. There are a few ifs. I'd be happy with a 7-2 or 8-1 regular season (we're not playing KIPP this year so only have 9 games). Kennedale is much improved this year, but WOS has played 48 games in the last 3 seasons and is seasoned so 9-0 is a possibility. I honestly don't see any team in Region 3 competing yet again for the 4th year in a row unless Giddings vastly improves or Robinson finds a replacement for their QB from last year. Cuero is gonna be really good the next two years so I'll be conservative and predict 12-2 with the possibility of a 3-peat definitely there. Just my two cents.
  15. I have a feeling Cuero will be pretty good the next two years. As long as we maintain the Chaingang Defense it will be difficult for any team in 4A D2 to get past WOS. I agree 4A D2 is definitely pretty weak. In 10 years 2007-2016 WOS has only lost 5 times to teams included in the current division alignment. Gilmer x 2, Jasper, Giddings, and Brookshire.
