  1. You're all wrong to some extent. Both Strake Jesuit and Dallas Jesuit were the first private schools allowed to join the UIL in 2004. They competed in the TCIL until it ceased to exist in 2000. Both schools played as independent schools from 2000-2003 as TAPPS refused to allow them in due to having too large of an enrollment compared to all other private schools in the state and the UIL refused them due to having neither restrictions on recruiting nor a geographically specified attendance zone. They petitioned the UIL and were allowed in starting with the 2004 season but they are required to play in the largest classification. Since 6A doesn't divide into a division 1 and division 2 until the playoffs they are allowed to play in the division 2 playoff bracket if they qualify as they had to compete with larger schools in district competition during the regular season. 2. I'm feeling more confident. I can easily see a Jasper, WOS, Silsbee and Giddings final four for our region. If Liberty were to pull off the upset over Giddings that would be amazing. The team just needs to maintain confidence in itself. The current numbers being thrown around are deceiving so we should go in with a definite plan that we can and will win. Remember 3 of the teams WOS lost to are now a combined 32-1 and still alive in the playoffs (Newton, Jasper and Nederland). Most will write us off having 4 losses without looking at the details when we could easily be 10-1 or 11-0 if we had played a slightly different schedule. We have the best Strength of Schedule in the region (win-loss record of opponents): WO-S 67-50, Silsbee 66-51, Bellville 63-53, Giddings 59-58, Liberty 56-62, Wharton 53-63, Sweeny 45-69, Jasper 44-74 WO-S is also 22-2 in the past 4 seasons in the playoffs. Sweeny is 4-4. Sweeny competed in Region 4 the past two seasons losing to teams we eventually beat: lost to Navarro 0-42 in 2016, we won 49-7, lost to Wimberley 17-42 in 2017, we won 30-21. They've scored more and allowed less this year but haven't played our schedule so don't let the numbers fool you. We have the playoff experience coaching-wise for sure and player-wise as well and I'd bet quite a bit that no other team this year will hold Newton to 0-7 at halftime like we did.
  3. Next week is when WO-S will or won't make a statement. Sweeny is ranked in every poll right behind Jasper. If they lose to La Grange even better.
  4. 2nd highest points scored in program history after the 84-0 win over Lincoln in 1993. We've scored 343 points in 11 games so far. In 1986 we scored 356 points total in 15 games and won a state title. In 2000 we scored 368 points total in 16 games. At this time last year after 11 games we had only scored 386 points. Our offense is not the worst we've had by any means and the fact we had how many different players score tonight? I'm optimistic. Next week will tell the tale though.
  5. Yup.. that's a setup for injuries. Wasn't there already one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty?
  6. Jasper allowed 24 points to the team Huntington beat to qualify for the playoffs so I am hyped for a Jasper rematch if we get through next week. Jasper has to get there too.
  7. Don't get too complacent. Remember Jasper beat Huntington 64-0. It's gonna get MUCH tougher starting next week. Hopefully Sweeny underestimates us. If La Grange gets the upset that's even better.
  8. Manvel, Marshall and Fort Bend Marshall will have something to say about our 5A D2 locals trying to get to Rd 3. PNG has the best chance by far. PAM actually has a decent chance as well although both PNG and PAM will run into a brick wall in Rd 4 if they make it that far and Rd 3 won't be easy for either of them either. Just my opinion. WOS has a tough road although Sweeny is beatable in Rd 2 and we're 3-1 against Jasper in the playoffs, and playing a 2nd time in the same season always favors the loser of the first game if the first game was close. I think Newton, Woodville and East Chambers should all easily get there as well.
  9. We shall see. La Grange could very well beat Sweeny. A Jasper rematch would be a tossup IMO and have you looked at Cuero's schedule? They've played literally no-one. A Geronimo Navarro rematch is the most likely Region 4 Final and Cuero shellacked them a couple of weeks ago.
  10. WO-S has won 45 consecutive district games. There’s no way they’d do anything to put that streak in jeopardy. They’ve also beaten H-F 14 consecutive years since the series began meaning WO-S is 14-0 all-time against them. This could be the year for H-F, who knows, but it won’t be because WO-S gave it away by any means.
  11. None of you seem to be looking at the brackets. Jasper and WOS could very likely meet again in the 3rd round. Silsbee would have to get by a very good Giddings in the 3rd round possibly which will be tough. I can see a Jasper/WOS vs Silsbee quarterfinal in a best case scenario but Giddings, Sweeny and Wharton and LaGrange or Bellville could throw a wrench in that. WOS gave Nederland their closest game to date I must add with a 1 point loss and has made it to the 4th round the past 7 years since 2011. In 4A D1 local teams may sweep round 1 but round 2 will be a sweep by the Carthage, Kilgore, Henderson district. In 5A I can see PAM making it to the 4th round but then they’d potentially face either a really good Hutto or a rematch with New Caney. In 6A D2 West Brook could go 3 or 4 rounds as all the heavy hitters are in D1. GP North Shore is a heavy favorite to make the state finals in 6A D1. Ned and PNG will run into Fort Bend Marshall, Huntsville, Manvel, and/or Marshall within the 2nd or 3rd round. An upset or two could get one of them to the 4th round but that’s a tough road in that region. Newton will roll to AT&T most likely although you never know. Upsets happen. Woodville has a tough road potentially in 3A D1 with Diboll, Franklin and/or Cameron Yoe waiting in the 3rd round. My picks for most likely to advance to at least the 3rd round (6A-3A) Newton GP North Shore Jasper WO-S Nederland West Brook PN-G Silsbee Woodville
  12. Whatever. We are guaranteed the #1 seed now. 45 district wins in a row. We play the loser of Shepherd/Huntington in the first round of the playoffs.
  13. How much were we up over Crosby in the 3rd Quarter 17-7? Behind Newton 0-7 at half. Lost to Nederland by 1. Looking forward to that Jasper rematch in a few weeks.
  14. Being moved to another server. They said it would take 5-7 days. Will be back up soon.
  15. We won 29 straight in 3A but we also won the last 3 district games in 2003 while in 4A so we won 32 in a row from 2003-2009, lost 1, and now have won 44 in a row since 2009. That's 76-1 in the past 15 years.
  16. The preseason polls for both DCTF and the AP have been more accurate over the years than the final polls believe it or not. I agree DCTF is more accurate. DCTF is decided by a very small group of guys who know the entire state and the cons and pros of most teams. The AP is generally voted by #1: name recognition/the usual suspects/who's done the best recently in the past few seasons and #2: who has the fewest losses. WO-S should make it to the 3rd round of the playoffs without a hitch before they have to meet Jasper a second time (if they both win their districts as they should) but no way would the AP vote for a 3-4 team. Don't rely on polls. Sometimes it's good to be floating under the radar. Nederland will get a target on them very soon if they beat Crosby. The AP pretty much looks at past semifinalists and undefeateds who've blown out every opponent. PAM hasn't gotten out of Region III in over a decade. Nederland's undefeated and no votes for them either in the AP. I guarantee if they beat Crosby they'll jump up there.
  17. At least you guys get HISD the first round and don’t have to play the Carthage, Kilgore, Henderson district until round 2.
  18. Thanks for adding WOS in there. 17-3 since 1984 maybe counts as "owning"? Grats on the win! We'll be pulling for you. 1984 WOS 23-14 1985 WOS 14-2 1988 WOS 51-0 1989 WOS 25-20 1990 WOS 35-14 1991 WOS 35-16 1992 PNG 14-13 1993 WOS 42-10 1996 PNG 35-7 1997 WOS 35-0 1998 WOS 17-12 1999 WOS 21-14 2000 WOS 7-0 2001 WOS 28-0 2002 WOS 3-0 2003 WOS 21-20 2012 WOS 34-13 2013 PNG 37-34 2014 WOS 33-27 2015 WOS 28-14
  19. The answer is no. Next year they'll start 1-3 though.
