Absolutely not ... don’t know what ur trying to reach for but to set the record straight I’m black  and yes it’s harder for us but do I complain about it. No I don’t ... Off subject .. let’s return to the topic

Harder in what way? It's not harder to get accepted into college, get financial assistance, gain meaningful employment and even become president of the greatest and most powerful country on Earth. It's harder to get fired from a job, I'll give you that one. You can't call Davis a crybaby for pointing out undisputed flaws in a system and that Yates takes advantage of those flaws to create an unfair advantage and then cry about fairness in society that is easily disputable.

Is HF in playoffs now, or do they need another Win & help?

LCM travels to HF on Tuesday and the winner of that game is in the playoffs, I believe.

And let me say for the record that as good of a coach as Rideaux is, he may be a better teacher in my book. He's old school and has kids put phones away and actually use the physical copy of their book. No Google or social media. Just in your face, challenging, confrontational discussions about real world, controversial topics. And he's not afraid to hurt a student's feelings if it will help prepare them better.  I hope HF knows how good of a teacher they gained in addition to a good basketball coach. Not many of those kids will earn a living in basketball. He prepares kids for life. In a world where we need good liberals for good honest debate with us conservatives, Rideaux is a breath of fresh air.

My thoughts exactly.  But more towards the Hawks D.  How do we give up 49 to 1 player.  Don’t get me wrong, Coach Davis is way above my basketball IQ and I’m not questioning the game plan.  Just hard to see 1 player go off.  But Bush is a hell of a player!  Good luck to both teams going forward.  Would love to see a rematch in Huntsville.

Very similar to when Grayland Arnold dropped 40 something on Tatum in the playoffs around 2015? but Tatum won. Talking to a Tatum alum recently about that game he said the game plan was to shut everyone else down and just let Grayland do his thing. Sounds like a good game plan against Bush and the tigers as well.  Either way, sounds like an exciting game. Congrats to HJ.

  4. Carthage is a great team. They did what they were supposed to do which is advance without getting any kids hurt. I hope that part happened because I saw a few kids leave the field. What I'm most proud of is that our coaches and kids came in ready to fight and let the chips fall where they may. We killed ourselves early with bad snaps, a chop block, etc which would have made for a closer game. But even into the 4th quarter, I saw kids launching their bodies into a bigger stronger opponent and never giving up. I would never question a coach using timeouts at the end of an unwinnable game to try to score again. It's one more chance to teach kids that it is never ok to give up or lay down. If someone can't understand that, then they need to spend some time looking in the mirror.  The Lumberton players had nothing but good things to say about the Carthage players. That says a lot about those kids, their parents and coaches. Great job Carthage!!!  I think some other parents could learn a few things from your example.  Great season Raiders!!

  5. Carthage is the better team but the better team doesn't always win. Injuries, turnovers, flu bug, trap games, more turnovers, etc can all contribute to upsets.  The kids and coaches have to believe that it is possible. I have seen bigger upsets than Huffman beating Carthage.  The fact that nobody thinks it will happen, including Carthage, is why it sometimes happens.  If y'all meet up, I think most of our district will be rooting for you guys.  Good luck

As soon as LC-M went into the locker room for halftime and heard the score in the BC game they decided to tank. The players weren't happy about it but they went along with the plan.

Do you also believe that we have aliens and UFOs hidden at area 51?

Why didn’t you put your prediction up...maybe because you thought the same I did??lol

Honestly, I thought we were evenly matched before the game so I was shocked for 3 quarters. LCM has some big boys and some nice athletes. It took some crazy determination and great play calling to pull off that comeback in the 4th quarter. After watching LCM, your prediction should have been accurate. But like they always say, that's why we play the game. I would have lost a lot of money on the Splendora/BC game btw. Crazy night.

Awesome job boys. I give credit to those kids who never gave up, who never hung their heads, who stayed in the fight. I give credit to the Coach who went out of the box and put faith in that scrappy group of kids who refused to give up. Hats off to number 13 from LCM. Almost too much to handle. Hell, I was almost ready to hang my head down after the 1st 1/2. It takes a lot of character and fortitude to come back and win a game like that when it feels like nothing’s going your way. Great job RAIDERS!

Great post. That's what it's all about. Teaching young men to be scrappers and to never give up.  Life lessons are being learned and memories made. Gotta love it.

I guess in some wierd average of overall kids and/or average difference in kids from different schools factored in with average amount of schools.  I don't have the number, but this is all I can come up with.  In other words, I would love to see the formula.  I'm sure there's one somewhere.

the top enrollment of a classification should not be more than double the bottom enrollment #.  I do remember that rule that they set for themselves

I also personally liked one of Babin’s assistant’s dad. Credeur was a good coach and an even better person.

I personally liked him as well.  And look at how Lumberton treated him after the awesome 07 and 08 seasons, when he didn't have the same playmakers and things took a turn for the worse.  Same coach, same system, same work ethic but the teams went 3 seasons with only 1 win.  Was that poor coaching?  Wrong player at QB? Wrong Offense?  I'm sure some of these daddies on here would say it was those things.  I saw that man and his family get attacked on here and in the community worse than I've ever seen happen to a coach.  And people forget, Babin was the OC under Credeur calling plays during those 07 08 seasons.

The answers to figuring out how to win in a community like Lumberton are not easy answers to come by.  Credeur and Babin have done a pretty damn good job of developing young boys into men and trying to prepare them for a world that is not so kind.  I thought that is why we encouraged our kids to play sports like football in the first place.  It's not for scholarships or trophies because those things are largely out of our control.  Along the way, these 2 coaches both managed to have some really good seasons when they had some studs on the team.  I don't fault Babin for choosing this offense for this team.  I also don't fault him for the many times we get behind the chains with penalties.  I don't fault him for the kids getting hurt and having to finish a game with a 3rd string QB or finding a way to be competitive while missing your starting Center and NG for the last few games.  I'm not making excuses because these are all parts of the game.  But sometimes they contribute heavily to why we lose the game and we just have to deal with and make the best of the situation.  And sometimes we are just not as good as the other team and it's not anyone's fault.  Hopefully these kids come out of this high school experience as Scrappers with some fight in them.  That's what it's going to take to be successful when this short period of their life is over and they move on to the important stuff.

If anybody can point me at a school with a worse district draw, I'd be glad to hear about it.  Last realignment cutoff numbers for District 11-4A-D1 wasn't very kind to us.

    Bridge City        791

    Huffman          1075

    LiCk'eM            1009

    Livingston    1078.5

    Lumberton      1125

    Splendora        1145

I'm curious what the #s will look like for these 6 schools this year.  Lumberton has increased by about 100 and will likely be back in 5A.  How about the others?

BTW, cry me a river.  Lumberton will be back to playing schools with 1800+ kids.   BC with 791 playing schools with 1100 is not bad at all.

Just because I can sense the ignorance and lack of education on your part, I will give you an explanation of your ill-fated post. The topic is Lumberton at Livingston, not An ignorant rant on why Spidersal doesn't like Lumberton.

    1. They did...

    2. If you're trying draw a comparison on scoring/giving up points vs. having talent or a good offense or defense, consider this:

Newton - a multiple repeating state champion with a chance to repeat again this year - got shutout by Gilmer. Is there offense weak?

Newton - a multiple repeating state champion with a chance to repeat again this year  - let Silsbee, who in your words, "is having problems", put 21 points on them. They let Legacy School of Sport Sciences, who has a 2-3 record, put 27 on them. 48 points between those 2 games. Is their defense weak?

If you want to bash the Raiders (who you picked to win, by the way), start a new thread that's relevant to your campaign against 1 team apparently... But mostly, don't come on here speaking negatively of the actual players - the kids - even if in general terms. You don't know their talents, their heart, their character or anything else about them.

That's your lesson for today, Richard.

I feel like I get just a little bit dumber every time I read one of spidersal's post.  My hope is that it is a middle school kid playing on the computer but I'm afraid it's a young adult who did a few too many drugs while his/her brain was still developing.  It's kind of sad really.

How is a RB coming out if the backfield on a wheel route a trick play? How about you give the coaches credit for a good play call and give the kids credit for executing the play?

Agreed. I was curious why that would be considered a trick play. Great call and players executed perfectly.  Huffman coaches and players deserve credit for the win. They were the better team and should go 10-0.  Lumberton has nothing to be ashamed of. Just have to protect the ball better and keep getting better at executing. No need to press the panic button.

Seems to me there is at least one Raider who has some jets. I don't remember his number all I remember is he started a good 10 yards behind a Silsbee receiver on another assignment and in about 40 or 50 yards distance he nearly ran down the Silsbee receiver who was running away from our other player if he'd had another 5 or 10 yards he would have caught that receiver. I don't think the Lumberton defense is as slow as people are thinking. JMO

Yes sir.  Speed is not a concern at the moment for Lumberton.  It will come down to execution, blocking and tackling.  With our kids and coaches, I like our chances.

  15. 1 hour ago, spidersal said:

I agree that the coaches are good men and work very hard, but Lumberton does not have much talent even though this is one of the better raider teams.  They work hard, but are slow.  They played Silsbee fairly well and Silsbee does have talent, but as of now they are a big disappointment this year.  They also have a very weak defense and other than Silsbee, the Raiders have played no one any good this year.  I do hope they win against Huffman.  We will see

It's a football game not a track meet, so I think the raiders will be fine.  We have enough speed to play with anyone in our district, as long as the players execute the way they have been coached. If our offense can keep from getting behind the chains with penalties, the Raiders should win in a close game.

Well on that first big run he wast fast enough to outrun those Tigers. He got caught.

That was #2. #25 and #7 would not have been caught. But the tiger D never let either of them loose. Well, 7 got loose down our sideline on the 2nd TD.  Silsbee defense is tough.
