Because basketball is more important?  Not sure what you mean by that being an answer.  There are definitely exceptions in cases of a school being more successful in one sport than the other, but it doesn't take away the statement that the schools are playing with the same enrollment in the other sports that they are playing with in football.  The question was why are they separating football and not the other sports?  Maybe the physicality of football compared to the others and the beating that it takes on the body.  Maybe somebody knows the reasons why the NCAA has the division and why the UIL followed it.

The physicality is part of it.  But what I meant was that even though you are pulling from the same # of kids in each sport, you need fewer good players to be competitive in sports like baseball and basketball.  Look at how many small schools are successful in March Madness each year.  George Mason made the Final Four I believe one year.  George Mason is not even able to field a football team.  Lamar can periodically beat UT in baseball, but how do you think they would fare against UT or A&M in football?  So, it is a combination of the physicality of football (imposing your physical will on your opponent) and the sheer #'s that are required in order to have a competitive FB team at a certain level.  After saying all of that, I'll throw out the usual statement that none of this applies to WOS when it comes to football. :-)

NCAA is the same way.  You have teams like McNeese that are in a different football division, yet when basketball and baseball season roll around, they have to compete with the UT's and LSU's.  I'm not saying it's right....I've always thought the colleges should have a different division for the other sports as well just like football, but I guess they haven't figured out how much more money they could make having different divisions.  The biggest puzzle is that those schools (as well as the ones in high school) STILL have the same number of kids to choose from in basketball and baseball as they do in football.  It makes no sense.

Just look at how Silsbee basketball is able to compete, and beat, most schools 2-3x their enrollment.  But they can't do it in football. Why?  There is your answer.

The number I was just showed at the Central high school Goals Night was 1187...

Are you talking about enrollment numbers for Central?

They're a bunch of new schools coming in Houston and Dallas, the cutoff number for 5A is going up not down. Cleveland is making the jump. The only way Ozen stays up is if BISD keeps them there. Lumberton will be interesting do they have an alternative school? If so they stay up.

All these schools we used to think of as small that are northeast of Houston (Cleveland Splendora etc) are going to be 6A in a few years because everyone is moving to be near I69 since its so convenient to downtown. Even Livingston will become a big 5A in the next few years.

Beaumont seem like its the only place in Texas not growing. It's so sad.

Hey man, how have you been?  I'm looking forward to a good game especially being that the final scores the last 2 years were 35-34 and 28-21 in favor of us.  But with Nelson and Bevil calling plays, I will just say keep up...

Been busy but doing good. I'm looking forward to a great game Friday night!  I know Babin will have the Raiders ready. Are the Jags ready to come Get Some?

it's not about him "beating out" an upperclassmen lol smh...it's about the boosters  and just being real, one of the reasons when strong came on before the season started frowned...ijs...now you got a truth, justice and the American way qb that's producing and the people that write checks like him, boy wonder, you can play wr. he's not a Vince Young if that's what you are thinking lol. Vince had credible hardware and played like a 5 star recruit. if we are still here 3 years from now...i'll look like a genius lol

Just cuz a kid has a great work ethic does not mean he will play as a freshman.  Did you play past hs? I played with a fella who was All American at our FBS school. He made All Pro(not pro bowl) in the NFL and "started" for about a dozen years. He was red shirted in college. Don't try to tell me about how college boosters and politics work. You only know what somebody told you. And based on who you probably run with, I wouldn't call them a reliable source. Smh

I could be wrong, but I thought he was...

Mond is a freshman.  A&M HC will be fired soon and you never know what coach they bring in after that.  At least Herman is not going anywhere. And true champions don't shy away from competition so I'm sure RJ is not worried about beating out an upper classman. The competition will only make him that much better.  Besides, everybody always wants kids to go in and start right away. There is no better way to develop as a freshman than to torch your own defense running scout team O every day.

I know I'm gonna get some flak for this but vidor amassed like 450+ yards against Lumberton and that was with 2 back ups playing most of the game. Something tells me that central is gonna go off on em. Sorry Lumberton.

We are not debating whether Central will score or how much they'll score.   I don't see Central having a defense like PAM or Vidor

I could say if jones was at png he would be doing the same as boy wonder or getting the same praise rather

So now you are saying that Jones is as good of a QB as Johnson?  Remember, we are talking about being a QB, not just a great athlete. By the way, what is Jones being recruited as for college?  It's not even fun arguing with you because you have absolutely no clue.

My point of comparison was against a defense that has talent he looks like the avg zone read qb. That’s not a knock on him. The reason the kid at brook is getting props is because he is doing it better against way better competition. The schools brook play would smash png and boy wonder. Some of them would smash pam

Wait a minute.  The schools that Brook plays would smash png but only some of them would smash pam?  PNG just beat pam and pam lost last year to vidor.  What color is the sky in your world?
