How old were you when you decided to be straight?

bullets13 got a reaction from tvc184 in Mississippi has taken a bold step to defend religious liberty
I actually fall on both sides on this one. I don't believe a church should be forced to marry a homosexual couple, and i actually don't have a problem with someone not wanting to cater/make a cake for a homosexual wedding because of their religious beliefs. This being because the act of homosexuality and the wedding are related, and do in fact go against those folks religions. That being said, i have a major problem with someone not serving homosexuals in a restaurant or not allowing them in their store. We all sin, and if you don't want sinners in your place of business, then shut it down and go dig a bunker somewhere and crawl into it. Sexual orientation and religious beliefs have nothing to do with pumping gas or eating dinner, and the gas station owner who will not serve a homosexual but sells a daily twelve pack to a neighborhood drunk is a prime example of hypocrisy, not christianity. So to recap: if the behavior that is against your religion is directly related to the service that you're being asked to perform, then i don't have a problem with the refusal. if it's not related at all, then you're no better than business owners who made blacks eat behind the restaurant or drink from a separate water fountain.

many Christians sure have a lot stronger beliefs about homosexuality than they do about the multitude of sins that they're committing daily in their own lives.

well, i've talked to many homosexuals who've told me that they were born that way. never had one tell me that they made a choice. but I'm sure the occasional propaganda piece about the one homosexual in a hundred who "went straight" is more accurate.

Just stop. You are guessing with your opinions. I am guessing that you don't know a damn thing about it.

Insurance and healthcare was a ridiculous cost before Obamacare which in part brought Obamacare on. Obamacare should be repealed but to then do nothing would not address the original problem. If Obamacare is repealed it's pretty naïve to think healthcare and insurance companies will voluntarily lower their costs and improve coverage.

Just read this board can't call it racism
but question his birth certificate religion love for the country etc. Some believe that Obama is a Muslim put here for one reason to destroy the U.S.
Racism is old that's what's destroyed my parents generation now we choose to be divided over party lines.
Just because someone do not agree with the president doesn't make them racist but if the president don't agree with you he's everything you choose him to be.
This is the song that never end.

bullets13 got a reaction from nappyroots in Dad's grief leads to quest to count deaths caused by illegal immigrant drivers
finding a way to sensibly legalize immigration, which is going to happen whether it is legal or not, will also allow us to much better regulate behavior of said immigrants, as well as gain the ability to properly tax them and receive payment into SS and medicare. if they're already committing a crime simply by being here, then there's little to no incentive to follow laws such as learning traffic laws to gain a drivers license. by being allowed to be a law-abiding citizen, they will be more inclined to follow all laws in order to maintain that status. Just my two cents.

Just my $ 0.02 but I would rather play with a Varsity team full of freshman than play with ONE kid that does not want to be on the floor with your team or would rather be playing for someone else.
I am not pointing fingers at any kid and I by no means want this statement to be seen as a knock on the kid, parent, or teams involved. The fact is that if they think leaving is the better choice or move for them then guess what it probably is, because the chances are if they don't leave I am not sure they would give 100% to a team if they would rather have been somewhere else. And that goes for any kid, any sport, at any school.

Romans 10:9 is very clear...and I will add that Christians berating folks about this is a major turn off to non-believers.

Translations are literally word for word. Your interpretation of pillars in the Bible into tectonic plates is most certainly NOT a literal translation. It is a huge stretch to make that interpretation.
-
bullets13 reacted to tvc184 in Discussion question:
Here is the problem with your statement. You claim that man cannot interpret God. Okay, I can understand that. The problem is that the Bible is not a text book that explains every details. A lot is left open to interpretations or if you don't like that word, teaching.
As as example of this in your response about the Earth being flat because there are "pillars" you correctly say that the Earth being flat is not specifically stated in the Bible. You then go on to say that the "pillars" means the continental shelves.
Okay..... so my question to you is, where in the Bible does it say that "pillars" are continental shelves? Perhaps that could be an interpretation? I was reading one "interpretation" that the pillars are the mountains.
In either case the pillars would be a feature of the earth but both likewise would seem to me to be an interpretation.... which you claim cannot be done. Where in this truth of God's word does it say that pillars means continental shelves?
The irony is that you say interpretation is not allowed to follow God's meaning and to back it up you give an interpretation. I can only assume that you mean only your interpretation counts.

with Saladin and Roberts graduating, next year's HJ team (and the year after) are shaping up to be entirely Parquet's team. I would imagine it would be similar to when Bosha was there and everything went through him the last couple of years. There might be some belief that HJ doesn't have a real great chance of making a playoff run the next couple of years, but realistically, i don't see Kelly making one either. They were vastly improved this year, but still struggled against the big schools in district and the playoffs. Family could also be the driving factor behind a possible move. It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened.

As for the original question in the thread, as long as Clay Davis is the coach, the Hawks will be successful. To define what I mean by successful, they will be a playoff team, a threat to win any playoff game, and the kids will be well coached. Period.
I know a LOT of parents who would love to have their kid play for Clay. I've seen HJ play several times over the past two years and thought they were well coached on each and every occasion. Just as important (and maybe more so), he is the kind of person you want your sons around.
Bottom line: there aren't many basketball coaches around here who are in the same conversation with Davis.

That came out wrong. It's not that Kelly doesn't focus as much on the TEAM, but possibly that this student-athlete has visions of his Individual talent being more on display at a school other than HJ. Kelly is a logical choice because there are no problems with UIL transfer rules and Kelly's basketball program is really strong among private school options.

Based on the political postings and people I've talked to, I'd sure be surprised if Any Republican can win. I doubt enough Trump supporters would back Cruz or Rubio, and many of their supporters won't vote for Trump. And neither group would likely back whoever the RNC picks. So, unless Something really out of the ordinary happens (as posted earlier) Hillary will win. Had a friend that shot his self in the foot with his rifle. The RNC has aimed it's rifle at its buttocks and pulled the trigger.

No, Bush 41 lost during a recession. It's common for changes of power to take place in the midst of economic hardship - in fact, if there's a single variable you can link major shake-ups in the line-up in Washington to over the last several decades, it's the shape the economy's in. That was the case in 1992, where you can trace the polling data that had Bush 41 ahead of Clinton literally up until the week of the election. Economics drives elections.
So Nixon gave us the EPA. Are you saying we don't need the EPA? And how his presidency ended has nothing to do with the fact that he was elected two landslides that have only been outdone by other Republicans.
And no, Romney didn't lose to the worst president in history. Why? Because...
*NEWSFLASH*: Barack Obama is NOT THE WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY!!!!!
Shocking! I know!
Seriously, are you actually so blindly caught up in all the rhetoric that you believe that? Do you really think Obama could compare to Jimmy Carter in ineptitude? Do you think he's as corrupt as Ulysses Grant? As lazy and indifferent as James Buchanan, the man whose inaction laid the foundation for the Civil War? As abusive of executive authority and the constitution as Andrew Jackson? As evilly caught up in racial tensions as any of the presidents that carried out the massacres of the Indians, or even FDR, the man who put every Japanese American in the country in internment camps? For the love of God, man, come to your senses.
I'm not going to sit here and say that he's been a good president, because he hasn't. It's hard to make the argument that he's been a decent president. But he is not, by any means, the worst in history, and to say so is to exaggerate in the same way that so many pundits do, further driving the polarization and the demonization of the other side that is ripping this country to shreds.
For the last five years, I have watched you make post after post and start thread after thread where you throw out these half-baked articles that masquerade as "journalism" from all these grassroots, far right-wing media organizations that come across normal day-to-day operations that are just part of governing, and think they've stumbled onto the next great clue Barack Obama's plot to take over the world, never bothering to even try to get some kind of opinion from someone with actual experience in governing to add context to whatever it is they're reporting on because all they want to do is jump to conspiratorial conclusions. And do you know why they're doing that?
*NEWSFLASH*: Because They Want To P*ss People Like You Off, So You'll Go To The Polls And Vote For Whoever They Tell You To Vote For
More shock!
Seriously, how do you think we end up with crap like this?
Do you think this is just coincidence? Or do you think this is the tactic of people who have turned phrases like "establishment" and "RINO" into dirty words they can use to slander elected officials who haven't really done anything wrong, but just don't go along with the hard right on every single issue?
Do you actually believe that there's some great benefit to you, or any other average person, if the Republican establishment up and crumbles in the middle of this election? Do you think that's somehow going to make it harder on the Democrats?
Do you actually think the people who are leading you down this path, spewing all this rhetoric and fomenting all this anger, are somehow on your side? Do you think they really have your interests at heart? Or is it really in their interest to take over an entire party and destroy the establishment political players, and they're just using you as a willing dupe?
Let's forget about Donald Trump for a minute and take your conservative messiah, smitty. Ted Cruz. Do you actually think he's as anti-amnesty as he says he is? Do you really believe a guy who...
SPECIFICALLY WORKED FOR THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION ON THE 2006 IMMIGRATION REFORM PACKAGE THAT INCLUDED AMNESTY
... is now all of the sudden against it? Do you believe a man who...
IS ON VIDEO ADVOCATING FOR A PATH TO LEGALIZED CITIZENSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE
... is really as anti-immigration as he's telling you he is? Do you believe a man who...
LITERALLY CHANGED HIS VOTE ON AN EXPENSIVE CROP INSURANCE BILL IN THE MIDDLE OF ROLL CALL ON THE SENATE FLOOR BECAUSE HE WAS REMINDED ABOUT THE IOWA PRIMARY
... is really as committed to fiscal conservatism and budget reform as he says he is?
Does that sound like "consistent" conservatism to you? Or does it sound like someone's spoon-feeding you things you like hearing, and doing something totally different behind your back?
But the worst part of this isn't that you're buying this rhetoric and blindly following the people who are spreading it, it's that you're helping them spread it around and pull off this whole gimmick. You've let yourself get so caught up in all the anger and the bluster that you're furthering it. Every time you post one of those articles or deliver yet another rhetorical one-liner, you're helping move people one step further along down that path anger, and hatred, and blind political rage.
But hey, you know what? That's fine. I really don't care at this point. Honestly, I find it funny, because while you're pushing this narrative along with your other super conservative buddies so y'all can try and get this...
... all you're doing is stoking the flames of anger, making sure that more GOP voters sign up to nominate this...
... which is just gonna end up buying us four years of this.
I just hope you finally learn your lesson when it happens.
