How does HJ compare to Silsbee this year?
bullets13 replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'm willing to bet all of you Hawks fans a beer that Silsbee sweeps HJ this year. Average margin of victory will be 11 points. Any takers? Also, if HJ beats Silsbee I will wear a HJ shirt and sit right in the middle of the Tiger crowd. IMO HJ is overrated!
didn't you start this thread asking how silsbee and HJ matched up? and now you're talking crap to anyone who doesn't agree with the opinion that you already had before you started this thread? what a turd. HJ and Silsbee should have two great games this season, just like they do every year. silsbee is certainly the favorite, but they have been the past several years, and HJ has beaten them at least once every season. HJ is MORE than capable of beating them with the team they're putting on the court this year, and with the team they'll have returning, they'll be the favorites next year. -

as an HJ fan and alum, i'm glad to see the hawks are having another really nice down year. they'll give silsbee a couple of good games, and should be the favorites for district next year. -
I definetly think Sislbee has the edge to make it to State in 3A in this Region, but I bet Cleveland and HJ dont go down without a fight. Just curious but what does each respective team lose to graduation? Silsbee? HJ? Cleveland?
cleveland will lose most if not all of their starting lineup if i'm not mistaken. HJ will lose a very good point guard in gus and a great shooter in sutherland, but there are youngsters lined up to step in and fill those holes. silsbee will lose DC, not sure who else, but i don't see that hole being filled easily.

if they get webb at 75% of what he used to be, they're going to have a very solid starter. if he's healthy and as good as he was before he got hurt, he'll be cliff lee at 1/10 of the price. -
HJ is over-rated* *even if healthy
they are every year according to those on this site. then they have a 30-win season and advance to AT LEAST the regional finals. we'll see if they end up with another 30-win season and another trip to the regional finals. they may, or may not, but they're still a very solid team.
The Cleveland-HJ playoff game last year was a classic example of how much difference good coaching can make. HJ was outmanned at every position but came out on top on the scoreboard.
I think the HJ coaching will make a huge difference. I think HJ coaches are the greatest next to M. Ali. I think HJ coaches walk on water. ;D
actually, if you must know, they turn it into wine, then walk on it.
How is Vidor overrated? Just because we had a 12-0 start before are district opener does not mean that we are overrated. Just have done a good job on getting a "W". An if you look at the Friday nights game against Nederland. You seen how good we are or can be. We didn't win that game, but we gave Nederland a run for there money. Overrated..... Is a huge accusation. Those boy put there heart into basketball, and critics want to call them overrated. That is a very rational statement. Vidor is the team that there record shows, and will be a contender for 20-4a district championship. Lets go Vidor, don't listen to all the haters.
better than any 2A, 1A or private school in the area? as for a contender for a district championship, how can you possibly say that? i'm not saying they won't be (a more realistic, but still totally baseless prediction at this point would be to say they'll compete for a playoff spot), but are you basing this on their 0 quality wins or their one fairly close loss against Nederland? again, i have no disrespect for the kids, i don't know diddly about the coach, but that schedule still blows my mind.
I'm not doubting Cleveland being good by any means! But, are they really "Second in the State Good?" I mean, this is over some quality teams! And I know they're not in SETX, but Dallas Madison still up there, even with a 9-6 record. I'm thinking they're getting their ranking because of their name. And I'm bracing myself here, because I'm about to get hit hard! However, I think HJ and Silsbee are both overrated this year. They just don't seem to be on the same level they were in the past. All are good teams, no doubt! But are they where their rankings put them?
Silsbee is quite possibly the #1 3A team in Texas this season. HJ is very solid, and is only going to get better considering they have had major injury issues, and also have a lot of young kids on varsity who are going to continue to get better as the year progresses. I see HJ as a top-15 team in the state right now, but a top-10 by the end of the season.

Maybe the Vidor team is young and their getting a little more playing experience and confidence as they prepare for war.
according to joesbros, "98%" of this team is returning from last year's team. -
Lots of people on here concerned about Vidor this year. Must mean they're doing something right.
beating the crap out of really bad teams, or losing their first district game? they've got a solid squad, and they've got a solid coach. who knows, maybe they beat nederland if they have any experience at all this year playing against a good opponent (and by any, i mean a single game, even) -
After tonights game, I think Vidor proved a lot of you guys wrong. They may not have won, but they proved that they can hang. Nederland didn't really have an off night either, so that excuse is out the window. As I'm a Vidor fan, I mat be somewhat biased. However, I have a big cheesy smile on my face as I'm writing this because I think Vidor just shut all those haters up. They didn't win, but that was a close game. I can imagine Bryan English had a little sweat running down his face all the way to the end of the game.
i've been out of town, or i would've responded to this sooner. as one of the "haters", i'm not going to give them much credit for losing against the ONLY real opponent they've faced all season. i did see that bounced back with another win over local powerhouse legacy.

i use a thompson-center 25-06, and i love it. tight groupings at long range, only a moderate kick, and a more than adequate round for taking down deer. the plus to the TC is for less than 200 dollars you can buy a new barrel and change the caliber to just about anything you want. of course, you don't get to go out and spray the woods with bullets. you're only getting one shot, so you better make it count.

Yates vs Findley Prep on ESPN

i'm glad a team finally came along that was good enough to exploit this team. it's a shame that as good as they are that they only know how to play one type of basketball.
How did they exploit them? All they did was break their press the whole game. I'm sure every team on their schedule practices breaking presses, so there was really nothing to exploit. Findlay Prep was just better.
you asked, then answered your own question. they were too good for Yates to press, but Yates knows no other way of playing, so they exploited that by consistently breaking the press and getting easy layups and dunks. had Yates had ANY semblance of a half-court game, this game could've been much closer. -

joe, i'm not going to argue your point, as it's valid, but i don't think games that happened 10 months ago are going to have them ready for the same type of games this year, especially with absolutely nothing leading up to district to get them "re-prepared" for this type of ball.
