HJ fans are very arrogant! Its not a myth. You have your 3 state titles and you swear that makes yall the KING of SETX! AAW, you are a middle man in this but HJ fans do have a sense of arrogants about them. Maybe not all but MOST. You can say Badsanta ur full of crap or whatever. Yall know I'm right so screw it. I guess if Silsbee had 3 titles every 20 yrs we would act the same way. We have ZERO still a work in process. I can say this, we will get one this year. Put your old pick up truck on that!
do i cents uh litle arrogants? -

How does HJ compare to Silsbee this year?

Silsbee has been bigger, stronger, taller, and faster for the past several years, and their players have had plenty of basketball talent to go along with that advantage. : as for why HJ can play with a silsbee team that's "15-20 points" better: coaching. also, it's a safe bet based on recent history. silsbee is "15-20 points" better than HJ every year, according to many on this site, but the series has got to be even or dang close to it over the past five years. HJ finds ways to win. -

east tx, silsbee has a very good coaching staff. IMO, HJ's is still notably better. I can't think of another reason why HJ is able to compete with Silsbee every year, despite inferior size (until this year, finally), athleticism, and depth. -
He missed the last 3 games of the Woodville tourney nursing an injured toe. Injured it in the first half of the first round game of Woodville tourney. He tried to play today, but only lasted 3 minutes. He has played a total of 10 minutes clock time in the last 5 games for Silsbee.
ouch. of course, as with the HJ injuries, backups are getting valuable experience with his absense.
Stating that the HJ coaching staff is better than Silsbee's is one thing (argumentative, but okay by me) but to say that the Silsbee coaching staff knows that they are not better than HJ's is being disrespectful.
ehh, i don't entirely agree with that. for one thing, i don't see how it's argumentative when you look at the championships, which speak for themselves, as well as the fact that they have an assistant coach at HJ who had considerable success previously as a head coach. you might also look at the fact that silsbee has had better athletes and players the past several years, but HJ has still found ways to beat them at least once a year every year. as for silsbee knowing that HJ has a better staff than them... i was a danged good soccer player in HS and college, but i had no illusions when it came to players that were better than me. it doesn't mean i wasn't good. but did i know some players were better than me? of course. -
Wow! You know I come to expect some of these idiots to be disrespectful, but not you Rob. Why you dissing the Silsbee coaching staff like that?
Silsbee has arguably a better TEAM this year than HJ. is that disrespectful to HJ? Silsbee has a great staff, but HJ has the best and most experienced staff in the area. -
The funny thing is that it has been 3-4 years since any of the HJ faithful have been on here claiming that they would win state easily or walk all over someone!!!!! The trash talkers have been a plenty for other schools in the area, but not from the Hawk faithful!!! So keep on keepin on and see where that gets you!!!!!
that's not completely true. i think several of us talk trash every year, right after the hawks prove everyone wrong. again. -
Um,hmmm.... seems to me bullet 23, that the only logical way to regain your strength is to stop reading about HJ.
if this is directed at me, then you clearly missed the sarcasm in my post. i'm an HJ alum and huge fan. i was just rubbing it in a little to all of the naysayers who've been talking all year about how "down" HJ was going to be this year, and yet they still win game after game.
I'm willing to bet all of you Hawks fans a beer that Silsbee sweeps HJ this year. Average margin of victory will be 11 points. Any takers? Also, if HJ beats Silsbee I will wear a HJ shirt and sit right in the middle of the Tiger crowd. IMO HJ is overrated!
didn't you start this thread asking how silsbee and HJ matched up? and now you're talking crap to anyone who doesn't agree with the opinion that you already had before you started this thread? what a turd. HJ and Silsbee should have two great games this season, just like they do every year. silsbee is certainly the favorite, but they have been the past several years, and HJ has beaten them at least once every season. HJ is MORE than capable of beating them with the team they're putting on the court this year, and with the team they'll have returning, they'll be the favorites next year. -

as an HJ fan and alum, i'm glad to see the hawks are having another really nice down year. they'll give silsbee a couple of good games, and should be the favorites for district next year. -
I definetly think Sislbee has the edge to make it to State in 3A in this Region, but I bet Cleveland and HJ dont go down without a fight. Just curious but what does each respective team lose to graduation? Silsbee? HJ? Cleveland?
cleveland will lose most if not all of their starting lineup if i'm not mistaken. HJ will lose a very good point guard in gus and a great shooter in sutherland, but there are youngsters lined up to step in and fill those holes. silsbee will lose DC, not sure who else, but i don't see that hole being filled easily.

if they get webb at 75% of what he used to be, they're going to have a very solid starter. if he's healthy and as good as he was before he got hurt, he'll be cliff lee at 1/10 of the price. -
HJ is over-rated* *even if healthy
they are every year according to those on this site. then they have a 30-win season and advance to AT LEAST the regional finals. we'll see if they end up with another 30-win season and another trip to the regional finals. they may, or may not, but they're still a very solid team.
The Cleveland-HJ playoff game last year was a classic example of how much difference good coaching can make. HJ was outmanned at every position but came out on top on the scoreboard.
I think the HJ coaching will make a huge difference. I think HJ coaches are the greatest next to M. Ali. I think HJ coaches walk on water. ;D
actually, if you must know, they turn it into wine, then walk on it.
How is Vidor overrated? Just because we had a 12-0 start before are district opener does not mean that we are overrated. Just have done a good job on getting a "W". An if you look at the Friday nights game against Nederland. You seen how good we are or can be. We didn't win that game, but we gave Nederland a run for there money. Overrated..... Is a huge accusation. Those boy put there heart into basketball, and critics want to call them overrated. That is a very rational statement. Vidor is the team that there record shows, and will be a contender for 20-4a district championship. Lets go Vidor, don't listen to all the haters.
better than any 2A, 1A or private school in the area? as for a contender for a district championship, how can you possibly say that? i'm not saying they won't be (a more realistic, but still totally baseless prediction at this point would be to say they'll compete for a playoff spot), but are you basing this on their 0 quality wins or their one fairly close loss against Nederland? again, i have no disrespect for the kids, i don't know diddly about the coach, but that schedule still blows my mind.
I'm not doubting Cleveland being good by any means! But, are they really "Second in the State Good?" I mean, this is over some quality teams! And I know they're not in SETX, but Dallas Madison still up there, even with a 9-6 record. I'm thinking they're getting their ranking because of their name. And I'm bracing myself here, because I'm about to get hit hard! However, I think HJ and Silsbee are both overrated this year. They just don't seem to be on the same level they were in the past. All are good teams, no doubt! But are they where their rankings put them?
Silsbee is quite possibly the #1 3A team in Texas this season. HJ is very solid, and is only going to get better considering they have had major injury issues, and also have a lot of young kids on varsity who are going to continue to get better as the year progresses. I see HJ as a top-15 team in the state right now, but a top-10 by the end of the season.
