of course, it's HJ's turn to go to state this year.  can't wait!  :)

Silsbee has been bigger, stronger, taller, and faster for the past several years, and their players have had plenty of basketball talent to go along with that advantage.  : as for why HJ can play with a silsbee team that's "15-20 points" better: coaching.  also, it's a safe bet based on recent history.  silsbee is "15-20 points" better than HJ every year, according to many on this site, but the series has got to be even or dang close to it over the past five years.  HJ finds ways to win. 

east tx, silsbee has a very good coaching staff.  IMO, HJ's is still notably better.  I can't think of another reason why HJ is able to compete with Silsbee every year, despite inferior size (until this year, finally), athleticism, and depth.

[/quote] ehh, i don't entirely agree with that.  for one thing, i don't see how it's argumentative when you look at the championships, which speak for themselves, as well as the fact that they have an assistant coach at HJ who had considerable success previously as a head coach.  you might also look at the fact that silsbee has had better athletes and players the past several years, but HJ has still found ways to beat them at least once a year every year.  as for silsbee knowing that HJ has a better staff than them... i was a danged good soccer player in HS and college, but i had no illusions when it came to players that were better than me.  it doesn't mean i wasn't good.  but did i know some players were better than me?  of course.

[/quote] didn't you start this thread asking how silsbee and HJ matched up?  and now you're talking crap to anyone who doesn't agree with the opinion that you already had before you started this thread? what a turd.  HJ and Silsbee should have two great games this season, just like they do every year.  silsbee is certainly the favorite, but they have been the past several years, and HJ has beaten them at least once every season.  HJ is MORE than capable of beating them with the team they're putting on the court this year, and with the team they'll have returning, they'll be the favorites next year.  

this "down year" the hawks are having is really starting to bum me out.  i'm sick of them being so weak while they keep winning tournaments...

as an HJ fan and alum, i'm glad to see the hawks are having another really nice down year.  they'll give silsbee a couple of good games, and should be the favorites for district next year.

if they get webb at 75% of what he used to be, they're going to have a very solid starter.  if he's healthy and as good as he was before he got hurt, he'll be cliff lee at 1/10 of the price.

[/quote] Silsbee is quite possibly the #1 3A team in Texas this season.  HJ is very solid, and is only going to get better considering they have had major injury issues, and also have a lot of young kids on varsity who are going to continue to get better as the year progresses.  I see HJ as a top-15 team in the state right now, but a top-10 by the end of the season.
