He overreacted. He's paying the price. I still think the bigger problem in society is the fact that teenagers think it's okay to curse and scream at cops while disobeying their orders.
-
Because thousands of scientists have told me so? But you're right, I should believe the right wing articles on here instead, even though every single one I've ever read was at worst a complete lie, and at best completely misleading.
-
And how do you know it's a lie again? Oh wait, because western journalism told you so.

I just read an article that stated that the officer in question had already responded to two suicide calls that day, including one where a man had shot himself in the head in front of his family (at which time the officer would've presumably had to deal with that shattered family for some time). This could provide some insight into why the officer acted in such a manic and angry way. I think it's safe to say he was having a very bad day. It doesn't excuse his actions, but I think most of us will admit to having bad days affect our work performance from time to time.

Did the teenage girl attack one of the women, or vice versa? I'm assuming there's evidence the teen started it or the media would be all over it. If a 15-year-old starts hitting me I'm not going to stand there and take it just because it's a teenager doing it.

HUFFMAN HARGRAVE 6 NEEDVILLE 4/LADY FALCONS WIN STATE!!!

I caught the last couple of innings today on fox southwest. The announcers completely missed the first mugging, but thought she probably should've been ejected for the 2nd one. Hard to believe that the umpire, who was in a position to see both, didn't do anything. The girl is ruined, though. The video is all over Facebook, other social media, and deadspin had an article with the video today. -
Perhaps you're right. I haven't looked at the video in a couple of days. But this is a perfect example of the types of things a cop might see while in that situation. Out of his peripheral vision, all he sees is a guy rushing him reaching to his waistband. You can't expect a cop to wait and see if someone is pulling out a gun to shoot him before drawing his own. The officer's inappropriate actions stem from his behavior to the girl, IMO, not his behavior towards two young men who charged him. Had one of them proved to be a threat to him, he would've shot them. When they proved not to be, he did not.
-
To be fair, if he was going to shoot them, they would've already been shot by the time the other officers reached him. That was an instinctual reaction to two people charging him while he was in a vulnerable position. I guarantee you if you go find TVC on a Saturday night in PA while he's in a struggle with someone and charge him from behind, he'd put his gun in your face as well.
-
I'm with you on drawing the weapon. I really didn't think that was out of line. The "kid" he drew it on had a cigarette in his mouth and appeared to reach into his pocket as he charged.

I would lean towards a personality flaw. the 11 other officers appeared to handle themselves pretty well.

Inadequate special education accusation against HJISD

Without a doubt there are bad teachers out there. There are also many more who have a hard time showing the patience needed for one special needs kid because they have 22 more non-special needs kids going crazy while they try to address the special needs of one kid. -

I wouldn't say they don't have the patience, I'd say they don't have the resources. -
He seemed overwhelmed. Still, the talking heads need to quit comparing this to ferguson. The other officers handled themselves well, and this one, while performing poorly, did not break any laws. Actually, since we're talking about cops not breaking any laws, maybe the ferguson comparison is fair.

Say what you want, but there's a lot more money in it for oil and big business from the right to deny global warming than there is for scientists on the left to say it exists.

Astros in the process of crashing back to earth, while the rangers are playing their best ball in two years. Here's hoping we have a texas team representing us in the playoffs this year.

Just saw where the needville catcher cleaned out two runners crossing home plate without the ball. Dirty as hell. Congrats to HH on the championship, but even more so on keeping their composure. I gotta be honest, the second time it happened, I would've cleaned her clock. -

It's a tough line to toe. I have a special needs student in my class this year that has benefitted greatly from being in a regular classroom. That being said, in some instances, the extra time and effort spent on that one child has taken away what I can do with my other 16 students. It's a tough balancing act. -
Vince Vaughn wants all American schools protected with firearms

Really? People are careless with guns sometimes. It's a matter of numbers, and if you arm that many people, someone is going to end up doing something stupid or careless. Cops have far more extensive training, and they still occasionally screw up and shoot the wrong people or have mishaps with their guns. Awhile back a woman was killed when she came up and hugged a cop from behind and somehow pulled the trigger on the gun he had in a shoulder rig. If you have enough guns involved, these things will happen. I'm all for arming teachers, as I've stated several times, but if you were to arm them, it's not a matter of IF one of these incidents happens, but When. Personally, I'm fine with the trade off. But you know the media will have a field day every time it happens. -

i'll say this: if you were to arm 2 teachers at every school in the US, it would amount to well over 200,000 armed teachers. with that many teachers, you'd have a handful of incidents a year that could possibly put kids in danger. perhaps a careless teacher leaves a gun out on her desk and a child gets ahold of it, or one goes off while she's digging around in her drawer. perhaps a teacher with a gun overreacts to some sort of fight or intruder at school and shoots someone she maybe shouldn't shoot. those instances would start to happen (albeit not very often), and we would hear about them in the media. never mind if arming teachers all but ends the era of mass school shootings, you better believe that the media would seize onto any mistake that a teacher made. and that being said, the rare instance where a teacher in that situation did make a mistake would be a big deal, and is not an unreasonable argument against having them in school. still, I'd feel better if a teacher or two at my (hypothetical) child's school was armed (after sufficient training). -

Not really. He just kind of blew me off. A lot of folks aren't entirely comfortable with the idea of guns in a school, and I can see that side of the argument as well. -

agree. it's not practical or affordable for every school to have a fulltime police officer, but it's not impractical to think that every school has at least a teacher or two that is capable of handling a firearm. on top of that, many teachers would be willing to run towards danger to protect their students. I emailed our (ex) superintendent a couple of years ago after Sandy Hook asking about the possibility of our district sending a teacher or two from every campus to training to become qualified to carry on campus, but I was politely shot down.
