63-63 with a minute to play
-
HJ up 61-60 with 2:29 to play
-
Huffman’s stall ball bites them with two quick breakaways for the hawks. 53-49 Huffman with 5:40 to go
-
33-25 Huffman leads at the half. First time seeing them this year. This is by no means a typical HJ team, but I’ve been super impressed with Huffman’s defensive pressure. Nothing goes uncontested.
-
HJ yet to score in the 2nd quarter, down 27-17 2 min until the half

End of 1 Huffman 18 -17. Was 18-11 and ref called T for taunting on top of a foul. HJ hits 3 of 4 FTs and a hail Mary 3 at the buzzer.....6 point swing

HJ was down 18-11 with 3 seconds left until Huffman got hit with I guess a flagrant, followed by a technical. HJ made 3 of 4 free throws, then hit a 3 at the buzzer from the volleyball line to pull within one, 18-17 at the end of the first

Have you forgot. Josh Mitchell just wins games.
This one is an important one for him to win.

big time playoff implications in this one. L-town is currently in 4th, only 1 win up on Vidor, who still has the Jasper bye left on their schedule. There are several scenarios left for the 4th spot in this district, as Lumberton finishes their season away to Vidor. A win here for Lumberton would shift several of those scenarios in their favor, especially if Vidor can't pull off the upset vs BC. There's also a slim, but doable chance for Lumberton to make it up into a tie for 3rd with WOS, but that becomes just about impossible if they don't win tonight.

I miss when the district had 2 or 3 ranked teams.
I miss those years where it was HJ/Silsbee fighting it out for district every year and then competing to make it to state. HJ has obviously dropped off some in the last 10 years or so, and Silsbee has gotten even better, but the whole landscape of 4A basketball is skewed due to all the houston teams in our region, combined with having to face the dallas teams if you make it to state.

Graduation will hit the Tigers hard. Next year's district season will be more interesting.
district is waaaaaaay down, though. The games might be a little closer, but a fraction of the team Silsbee is fielding this year could easily win this district, and will next year as well unless something crazy happens. That said, the playoffs will get interesting earlier than usual for the tigers.

Waggoner would be good hire,
agreed. he's turned things around nicely at HF, and fielded consistently solid teams the last few years. He also comes with two sons who coach, not sure if they'd be a part of the package or not, but wouldn't surprise me. I'd hate to lose him, but at the rate he's applying for other jobs I'm sure he'll get picked up by somebody soon.

I went to a Little Dribblers game yesterday. This is the crap the kids are playing on. Little Dribblers raised money to replace this junk with adjustable goals in all the middle school gyms that they use. Nederland admin told them no. Someone else is wanting to pay for better facilities for our kids and they get shot down? Make that make sense to me.
Also the same Admin that won’t allow coaches to have camps for the youth in the summer. I believe English is the only one that offers anything and he has to do it off campus at a church. This is who we have running the district and ultimately making this hire. Forgive me for not have much faith in them.
Not sure what they offered to replace them with, but if it’s not something that’s anchored to the walls I can understand why they said no. Those type of hang on goals are very common in little dribblers. A moveable standup goal can fall (especially when the bigger kids start trying to dunk on them), has to be stored on site, and also in most gyms wouldn’t fit under the 10 ft goals in place and the base would be in the court of play. Now if they’re offering to buy 10k adjustable units that hang from the ceiling then that’s a different story

I disagree.
Huffman and HF can handle just about any Region 3 team other than Silsbee and Houston Washington.
Both teams will cause some match up problems for those two.
Hoping you’re right.
-
Sounds like a good one. Both teams having really good seasons. It’s a shame there are AAU teams waiting for them in the playoffs, although some of the houston teams are down.

That Fairfield squad has been something really special the last 5 years.

They have cut back when it comes to this area. If you look on their site, they are still doing around 8-10 games on Tuesday and Friday. Just not our area.
The Hudl gig is cutting into their business some. NFHS is using Hudl for some of it's broadcasts without commentary.
Disappointing. I’ve been paying monthly for about 3 years now, even in the summer, since it’s been such a useful service. I guess it’s time to cancel. I can always renew during football if they decide to actually show some games.

Why hurry hurry and rush a hire? There is still plenty of time… this is a critical time in NISD. Don’t want to rush and hire the first person and the whole program takes 5 more steps back than where it currently is… something NISD may dig themselves a hole and never get out of..
they don’t need to rush and make a bad hire. but your post makes it sound like you think Nederland and their applicants are on the same time frame, which is not the case. Those guys are applying at other places, so Nederland better figure out who they want quick, or risk losing them to another job. So while I agree with you that it’s critical that Nederland hires the right guy, it’s also critical that they make the hire before the right guy takes a job somewhere else.

I’ll ask some of my connections, but last I heard the last Monday is a key date in February… but they also decided to close the job opening down a few days early. Makes me think they might have a few choices they want… a few names been tossed around an interesting.
They better hurry up if I’m reading this right. I highly doubt any truly quality candidates are going to be sitting on their hands waiting for a phone call from Nederland. They’re going to keep applying at other places.
-
Is it just me or are they cutting way down on the games they’re showing? I haven’t used it in awhile. I use NFHS, and usually on a game night I can find three or four games to pick from, sometimes twice that. I have most of our local teams under my schools list, and the next local game I have showing up is HJ/Silsbee jv soccer on February 28th

Look at the other three border states
pathetic
The dem mayors of those states aren’t a fair representation of how the majority of those states feel (well, besides California). This issue has a great shot at turning them back red in the next elections.

Biden is over a barrel right now. He either backs down and let’s the republicans win on this matter, or he openly uses the military to forcibly open the border back up to the flood of illegal immigrants coming in
