Were you at the game tonight?
No sir. Ive seen them play several times this year and they can look really good or pretty average depending on the shot selection. No doubt Zach Sells is a great player to build around, he’s already special. I think they’ll be solid as they get a little more size to em. That’s when they’ll start to excel , when they can start to beat ya up a little on the defensive end of the floor. Very unusual to be in the playoff hunt with all sophomores and freshman but Joub has got em there. He’ll get the most out of em.

Gonna be a great game. The absolute worse thing that could have happened to OF was for EC to lose to Kountze. The Bucs will show up focused . I’ll take EC by four 66-62

Also, let's not forget that Silsbee JV has an excellent coach in Coach Ira Brooks. Man has been so loyal to Silsbee through it all. Could easily have been a head coach elsewhere.
Can’t agree with this post more. I got a chance see Coach Brooks coach a lot when my son was coaching. I think he’s a very underrated part of the Tigers success!!

To say Kountze struggles with consistency is a massive understatement. But it’s pretty expected from a team that returned 1 Varsity starter, 0 Seniors, and a swarm of Sophomores. The two Juniors play some big time minutes though. With the 8th grader coming, Kountze can be a real problem in the next 2-3 years. If they could get the older brother back they would be that much better. Either way, the next couple years should be a fun ride.
I’ve seen Kountze play several times this year and Zach Sells is the real deal. I think Kountze’s inconsistency is more about their shot selection than their age. When the 3’s are falling anyone is in trouble but that’s a dangerous formula for long term success. The one thing that will improve with age is their defense, they will get bigger and stronger which will make them better. Congratulations on a big win Lions!

Got to adjust my line on the HJ/HF game. Got some info that is pertinent for one team.
Hamshire-Fannett (-8)
I don’t know but one player who would make a 4 point difference. Hope both clubs are close to full strength
-
I may drive down to see this one myself. I can’t remember a time HF was both the favorite and ranked ahead of HJ. Should be a good one

Didn’t have anything to do with him. Buna tied the game at 51 with a couple seconds left, clock is running, and the official calls a touch foul on the in bounds with .09 seconds left to give OF free throws. An official should never be the deciding factor in a basketball game. It should’ve went to OT and let the kids sort it out.
It’s either a foul or it’s not. Time on the clock has nothing to do with the call. I’ve never understood the argument that “you don’t call that foul at that time “. Tough way to lose for sure.

When you live and die by the 3 you are going to see both sides of the coin. When they are falling Kountze will be competitive against anyone in the district. When they aren’t we’ll do a double take looking at the box score. Hard to be consistent playing this type games.

That’s exactly what I mentioned. His poorly planned defensive schemes Maybe you missed that post. Last season they gave up 62 points a game. I’m not sure what defense you have been watching.
There were a few games against really good teams that the opponents scored well over 100. Silsbee I think scored about 125 in the first meeting last year and Hamshire scored over 100, both very good ball clubs that loved up tempo basketball. I don’t remember the score of the second Silsbee game but I don’t think they scored nearly as many the second time around. The guy does a good job with what he has to work with.

That’s a good win for the Horns

I’ve watched Coach Mitchell for years and the one thing no one ever mentions is his grasp of the defensive side of the game. He’s been doing a great job of preparing his clubs defensively for years. He’s gotta be doing something right because no one ever talked Lumberton basketball before he got there 🏀

Huffman did a good job of controlling the tempo. It looked like HJ was gonna pull away in the 3rd, and Huffman made some big shots to keep it tight
Huffman has one of the most underrated coaches in the area. He does as good a job with what he’s got as anyone.

Or Kountze?..
if they played Warren to +12 Hardin is probably the only other district club they would have beaten last night

Got real quiet in here. Orangefield is a really good squad. Will be another battle at their house when we travel.
Could very possibly be getting to see a seeding game between these two which is always fun. That being said never bet against EC at home !!

That’s big time !! Congratulations

Where is the talent in Kountze?
This Kountze club is very thin, pretty small and very streaky. They’ll win some they probably shouldn’t when the 3 ball is falling and lose some they shouldn’t when it isn’t.They have a really good little guard but nowhere near the club they used to have. I had them competing with Anahuac for the last playoff spot but they may be on the outside looking in 🏀🏀🏀

Hardin 6 Warren 78/FINAL

They may wanna forfeit the rest of their games this year. If Warren beat em like this the rest of the district will be brutal. Sad situation for a program that is usually at least respectable.
