stevenash got a reaction from mat in 86 million private sector workers support 148 million benefit takers!!!
There is going to HAVE to be pain for someone somewhere. My thoughts are we should give someone one year max of unemployment. If it gets extended beyond that, reduce the benefit by 25%. After another year, another 25% reduction. You effectively tell someone in advance that you are going to help them but not in a permanent manner. It just might encourage the freeloaders to try to find work.

I consider the problem to be how easy it is to get in line and how much encouragement our system gives to people to get in line. "getting in line" ought to be more difficult and, once in that line, there ought to be time limits and benefit limits.

I think its fairly obvious that the early apology tour and drawing lines in the sand without honoring them have both proven to be counterproductive.

If my memory serves me correctly, you recently stated that the BISD Board, Dr. Chargois, and Butch are all bullet proof. Still believe that? -

Yes it is. The last two Presidential elections prove that contention.

Conundrums
The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing. With that in mind, check out the following email message. If this isn't confusing, I don't know what is!!!
The six contradictions of socialism in the United States of America:
1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.
2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.
3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.
4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.
5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century.

Interesting but you kind of prove the point.
There are approximately 3 million people currently in jails and prisons in the USA. There are probably 4-5 times that many on probation or parole. That is just as we sit here and type.
Over the years, there have been many more millions of people incarcerated. Let's just stick with the likely 10 million or more in jail/prison or on probation/parole at this moment.
To show your case, you drag up someone wrongfully convicted...... 40 years ago. Yes there have been others but the point is that out of literally millions, you can find some mistakes. What percentage do you think that it is? 99.9% rightfully convicted?
I'll stick with that rate and make my decision that I think they are guilty. For all that I know they may not even be charged. If not, good for them. They might also be guilty of something like misprision which makes it a crime not to commit the offense but to know of it and not report it.
I believe that everyone should get a fair trial if there is enough evidence even to be brought to court. I have no issues with that or that some people lie or that on rare instances evidence is falsified. None of that has any bearing on my belief that millions of dollars have come up missing from various accounts and places associated with BISD, some people have been charged criminally and according to the news, at least one is set to plea guilty. I believe that is it extremely likely that others than this one guy are involved and even more knew about it and kept their mouths shut.
Pointing out a miscarriage of justice 40 years ago won't change the odds.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung It on
my back porch and filled it with seed.
What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it, lovingly with seed.
Within a week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the continuous flow
of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table...
Everywhere!
Then some of the birds turned mean.
They would dive bomb me and try
to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.
And others birds were boisterous and
loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even sit on my
own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the
birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like it used
to be... quiet, serene....
And no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.
Now let's see...
Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care
and free education, and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
Citizen.
Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly, our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you have to wait
6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child's second grade class is
behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.
Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box;
I have to 'press one' to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are
squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for
the government to take down the bird feeder.
