    TODAY'S THE DAY

I voted today just to cancel my wife's vote who early voted. She made the mistake of telling me who she voted for and then had the audacity to not bring me breakfast in bed this morning. I showed her. I be that way sometimes.

  2. Whatever happens, I'm just glad we'll get a reprieve from the constant texts, calls, TV commercials. Every ad accuses some candidate of being a pedophile, pedophile enabler, trans supporter, etc. You have to be mentally challenged to fall for this crap. Texans ought to be ashamed of the current state of our state politics and political leaders.

  4. Nederland should win. I like Dayton and they always play a great game against Nederland. The problem this season is Nederlands strengths are exactly Daytons weaknesses. Good Luck Nederland, and Good Luck to our Purple Brothers. Here is wishing a safe game.

  5. This might be the most vanilla game PNG offense will have played all season and still win by 50+.

  8. Would be nice to have two semi locations - Region 1vs 2 one location - two days of games, Region 3 vs 4 one location two days of games. The small school big school format makes it difficult if not impossible though so maybe 1a-3a sites, 4a-6a sites or any combo like that.

  9. Instead of having them scattered across multiple predetermined sites, why not turn the semifinals into one big Texas high school basketball jamboree? Similar to what we already do for the state championships. But hey, I'm just here to complain. 🤭

    Lufkin @ La Porte

I think styles make fights and Lufkin has a style of play that I think can keep this game competitive. Similar to how the Westbrook game went for LaPorte. Of course we could look up and Simon has 200 yards and 4 TDs and its not very competitive. Outside of the Longview game Lufkin has been competitive in every game this year. United got away late and I believe Lufkin would beat United more times then not. It was just one of them nights where everything went wrong. Should have also beaten GCM. Its been a roller coaster season. Depending on which Lufkin team shows up. Im expecting a 4 quarter game.

  12. I would rather go back to having the semi-final played at the State Tournament. But if that isn't going to happen anytime soon, then I like the idea of predetermined sites for the semi-finals.

  15. They won’t answer you, the replies and comments are all about hurt feelings and not getting what they wanted. Has nothing to do with winning, discipline, etc… an 80 game winning streak would somehow be made into a failure, 16 shutouts in a row, nothing would be enough. But the person they want can have an overall losing record, never have won a single playoff game , a district championship, or anything resembling success, but they’d still be “ A Great Coach”

  16. Stepp was mentioning in the Tepp & Stepp pod today that Randle’s QB is down, and LWC is a little dinged. He thought Randle may be without their QB for the rest of the year, and was concerned about their chances of going deep. Anyone else hear anything more?

  17. That's very possible. Seems to be no love for Dayton around here, but they seem to always play Nederland a close game. ... Just like TC.

  18. Both these districts have Week 11 District Championship games to end the regular season. Couldn't have scheduled it any better. Here is the schedule and Massey projections: 12-2A D1 Shelbyville at San Augustine (Friday) Massey projections has this one 32-28 San Augustine 12-2A D2 Colmesneil at West Sabine (Thursday) Massey projections has this one 46-14 West Sabine I'll be attending the Shelbyville/SA game. Looking forward to a great game. I also think the Colmesneil/WS game will be closer than that projection. Thoughts?

  19. According to the Texas Secretary of State, Elections Division: "About 77% of adults in Hardin County typically vote, above the U.S. average of about 62%. Among adults in Hardin County, ~12% vote Democratic, ~64% Republican, and ~24% don't vote." So of the ones who vote, 83.12% generally vote Republican, 15.58% vote Democrat and the other 1.3% vote otherwise (Independent).

Youth. I consider the BU game a fluke. Y’all made me lose my pick’em against GCM. I thought for sure Lufkin would win that game. But—like I’ve told others—Simon will get his. He got 340 & 4 TD’s against PAM. What you don’t want to see is Wells with 200 or more passing. He’s averaging over 170 ypg with a 64% comp. rate, 19 TD’s, and only 1 INT. If LP can pass whenever they want, it will be a problem. I know LP wants to win. My main concern is that no one gets hurt. I wouldn’t mind an RSS win on Thursday either. Nothing against BU. I just want GCM and Lufkin to make the PO’s. But, I don’t want LP to lose to make it happen. The LP seniors have been through a lot with no home games for 2 years, and have still been District Champs & PO bound for 4 consecutive years. Y’all are getting ready to experience a similar ‘no home’ period. But—at the end & new beginning—y’all will be really happy about it.

Thank you sir. All of the info is greatly appreciated. I believe most of the Lufkin fan base is fairly familiar with the area. I actually co-own an air bnb property in Kemah myself lol. As for the game, idk. I don’t see how Lufkin can slow LaPorte down enough and then score enough to win. We would need to score every time the LaPorte offense comes off the field. No matter how that occurs. If we had more consistency on offense I’d feel better, but we can’t punt the ball 5 times and fail to score in the red zone 3 times in this game and win to tell about it. Lufkin has yet been able to put back to back games together where I thought they looked like a good football team. It’s Jekyll and Hyde. That’s why we’re in this position in the first place. No better a time than now I guess.

Coach Abseck and Coach Berneathy have met 3 times. In Berneathy's first year back at LP (2022), the Dawgs beat Barbers Hill 34-27 in district play. In Berneathy's second year at LP (2023), the Dawgs won at Barbers Hill on the Eagle's Homecoming 34-29 in district play. This was the first year LP played no home games as the new Bulldog was being built. LP actually played their home games at Eagle Stadium. LP was moved to 11-5AD1 in 2024, and the two met up in the Area round PO game which LP won 55-27. This will be the 4th meeting between these two staffs.

  37. Very possible but it's not always the case. 2 years ago the RB from Huffman got MVP and Huffman finished 2nd in district. Huffman QB won it back to back years it 2020 and 2021 from a 2nd and 4th place position so it definitely happens.

  41. After giving it some thought and speaking with some other folks in the business (along with some coaches), I have made the decision to do team rankings of our coverage area teams here at SETXsports. I haven't done them in a few years but I think it's time to bring them back. I am not going to pretend to know everything about every team we cover here but I think I can put out a pretty accurate assessment of our teams. I will reach out to others (including some coaches) for input on some teams. These rankings won't be the "end all, be all" and I fully expect negative feedback from week to week. I have tough skin and invite any feedback to help give a more accurate ranking. These will be SETXsports rankings but in the end, it's just my opinion. Whatever that's worth. I will be doing the 3 poll system. Top 10 6A/5A, Top 12 4A/3A (more teams in this group), Top 10 2A/1A/Private. I thought about doing top 12 for all three and bring back the Dirty Dozen Rankings label. But for now, 10,12,10. I will post a Pre Season ranking on Tuesday, November 10. But, I will not follow up the next ranking until after Thanksgiving. Probably first of December. Then it will be a weekly ranking from that point until end of regular season. Most likely will come out on Tuesday mornings each week. These are the teams that are eligible for these rankings: 17-6A (Channelview, Crosby, North Shore, Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood, Summer Creek, CE King) 18-5A (Northbrook, Spring Woods, Kingwood Park, New Caney, Porter, West Fork, Splendora) 19-5A (Goose Creek Memorial, Baytown Lee, Baytown Sterling, United, West Brook, Dayton, Nederland, PA Memorial, PN-G) 18-4A (Bridge City, Jasper, Lumberton, LC-M, Silsbee, Vidor, WO-S) 19-4A (Hamshire-Fannett, Hardin-Jefferson, Huffman, Liberty, Livingston, Shepherd) 20-3A (Anderson-Shiro, Tarkington, Coldspring, Crockett, New Waverly, Onalaska, Trinity) 21-3A (Diboll, Huntington, Pineywoods CA, Central Heights, Newton, Pollok Central, Woodville) 22-3A (Anahuac, Buna, East Chambers, Hardin, Kirbyville, Kountze, Orangefield, Warren) 23-2A (Chireno, Garrison, Joaquin, San Augustine, Shelbyville, Tenaha, Timpson, Woden) 24-2A (Colmesneil, Big Sandy, Deweyville, Evadale, Hemphill, Sabine Pass, West Hardin, West Sabine) 28-1A (Brookeland, Burkeville, Chester, Goodrich, High Island, Hull-Daisetta, Leggett, Spurger) Beaumont Kelly Beaumont Legacy Please post any thoughts here if you agree or disagree with how these rankings will be done. Again, I want to hear from you guys. Any and all help is welcome.

  42. Nederland has the talent and potential to be a much better football team, but there are some fundamentals that need to improve. Defensively, we have to become better tacklers and consistently finish plays by bringing guys to the ground. Offensively, we need longer, more sustained drives that keep our defense off the field and allow us to establish some momentum. Most importantly, we have to eliminate the costly penalties that put us behind the chains and take away opportunities. At the end of the day, it’s about executing the fundamentals, playing disciplined football, and being more consistent in all three phases of the game. The potential is there; now it’s about putting it all together.

  44. This cryptic message is hard to comprehend. Help me understand. You are a Mustang supporter, but you need the team to be unsuccessful so they can fire the coach(es),therefore validating your point and finally bringing in the coach(es) that meet your approval. Also, 34-7 at the half. Rest the starters?
