You sir, disgust me!  The only stomach churning going on is to read that someone, who I suspect has never coached anything other than perhaps pee wee flag football, would have to audacity to say that Vidor's team is made up of nobody's that wouldn't even start in Crosby.  Well, our boys wouldn't WANT to!  These boys have played through pain, both physical and emotional this year and have remained unwavered in their quest to go as far as they possible can towards state.  They play with their heart and carry the memory of their fallen brother on that field every week.  These kids are fine young men and Crosby would be lucky to have them grace their field.  As far as the coaching staff in Vidor, they are second to NONE.  These men spent much of their time away from their families to not only coach this team, but to mentor them and to be role models of what a man truly is.  Vidor won that game against Crosby because they fought their way to a win....Crosby came up short.  It's unfortunate to me that people in Crosby don't understand that although it is the coach's responsibility to prepare these boys to play the game, they are not the ones on the field.  The team has to have the will to win and play with that determination.

That is sad and pathetic.  I'd prefer a coach with a consistent losing record that can teach my son hard work, determination, sportsmanship, and help him grow into a man than a coach with a winning record who does little to none of those things.

Winning is NOT everything.  Kids need to learn that not everything in life is going to go their way all of the time.  They are still just kids.

Coaches in high school are teachers too.  I'd hate for my daughter's 2nd grade teacher to get fired because some of the kids are struggling a bit with their handwriting.  It's basically the same thing!

You want an honest answer to that?  Wins are important to schools still in the mix ,  if you didnt make plays offs or lost last week then " wins arent everything"

My school (Vidor) is still in and they have had their share of losses over the years.  But, if Coach Mathews was 0-10 for 10 years, I'd still rather him coach and mentor my son than anyone else.

It has nothing to do with "W" and "L"... can you name another coach that has taken Crosby to the playoffs 7 out of 8 years of service??? no you can't...

All this has to do with 2 of the 7 board members dogging Coach Flanigan.. these 2 happen to be in Barrett Station and have persuaded the other members to jump on the band wagon to make bad decisions.... Like cancelling the non-district games with Vidor...

There was over 200 people that showed up to try and talk some sense to the board...there was a line out the door... some from as far as College Station and Austin... and some former players that did not see eye to eye with Flanigan while they played, still backing there Coach to stay...
What the board does now will determine their fate at the next board election I am sure...

Wow!!!! The truth did come out.  Vidor puts a spanking on Crosby and due to biases in the community, the head coach gets fired!!!  That is incredible!!!  I don't think I will ever stop on my HWY 90 trips to Houston and spend a dime in Crosby again in my life!

      He actually had a pretty solid year for a sophomore starting in that district. I can assure you, it hasn't hurt his recruiting at all and that will only improve with the move back to the Wack.

The mindset needs to be that any time someone wears a Jasper uniform, that they're doing everything they possibly can to win. It matters.

      You said a lot there. Truthfully, that is the root of the issue. Who cares what a kid thinks about how coaches are running a program? Kids play, coaches coach. For some reason, parents have this backward in a lot of places and its wreaking havoc.
