Honestly didn’t see this coming! Curious to see who will take over.

Seems like they basically had a home town guy that wanted to stay a few years, but weren't happy. A school that has relatively very little talent, pays low, and might have some of the worst facilities in 4A/3A might not attract many quality candidates looking to stay pass a year or two max.

Believe me its super frustrating out here on the prairie! Seems to be no willingness to build an attractive program for talent or coaches. I am sure this will be an inside hire from the current staff that is still there.

Buyer beware on the prairie. Its a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might be the worst place I can recall. Seems hell bent on remaining terrible. They reject every possible step to improve. I feel bad for the kids.

Facts! Sad but true.

The talent we do get here quickly leave and nobody thinks thats an issue…

Hearing that DC Tenorio is applying for the job, along with others I’m sure.

Anyone have any insight on him?

Don't really know too much about their coaches, other than their boys' basketball coach is a good one that's probably had the most success out of everyone.  Would this be a spot where they could fill the AD role with a non football head coach? I think this will be Tarkington's 6th AD change in the last 10 years and three of those were with Belt. Football is 3rd on the list in Tarkington after baseball and basketball. Tough spot to coach at!!

Same here don’t know a lot about the coaches on staff. They’re fairly new.

Boys Basketball had a great year! Baseball…seems they like making TikTok videos more than playing ball 🤦‍♂️.

Oh the woes of sports on the Prairie!

An assistant from a very successful nearby 6A school applied. Has ties to the area.

Interesting…

Figured it’s going to be someone with ties of some sort.

Great?  I mean.. they had a kid that scored a lot of points.  But they finished a little better than 50% and missed the playoffs.  That's a great year?

Plus.. wasn't the scorer a senior?  Might be back to the struggle bus next year.

Wasn't great, at all going 19-14 and 5-7 in district.

Made the playoffs six years in a row before this, won a playoff game in four of those six years before this so it's been a while since we were on the "struggle bus"

We are far from an elite program in basketball and have a long way to go, no question about that. But, been a long time since we boarded the "struggle bus"

0-10 Football team, 1-24 Girls Basketball, 5-15 Baseball, 7-15 Softball…

Maybe not “great” compared to previous basketball seasons but in the vacuum of 25-26, yeah they had a great season.

No offense intended.  What you mentioned is certainly above Tarkington's historic standard.. for most sports.  But mediocre or a step above isn't something I'd ever use the word "Great" with.  .. Which I know that you said the year wasn't great.  No question that 20+ wins and a playoff appearance is better than many, but other than this recent 6 year stretch you're talking about.. how often were even winning records happening?  6 years is not a long time.

They're dropping, right?  That'll definitely help.. or should.  I don't know..

I wonder what Stan Howard is up to?

Retired. His 2 sons are coaching now. Oldest was a finalist for the CP job (he was the DC there) now he is going to be DC at Atascocita. Other son was at Dayton last I heard. Stan did not do a bad job at all during his time there.

If you have seen his kids play over the past couple of years.. it is great! He does a phenomenal job with the talent he has. The best scorer was a Senior, but he has won multiple years, when all the other programs have struggled mightily. Tarkington struggles to keep coaches, but I can assure you coaching isn't the biggest reason for their lack of success... unless you are listening to some of the fans in bleachers.

Another good coach, ran off by parents who thought their kids were better than what they were. A lot of false perception of reality in these smaller town.

I didn't say the coach hasn't done great with what he has.  I has that barely breaking .500 THIS YEAR and missing the playoffs isn't great (regarding the basketball team).  That's not a knock at the coach at all.  When you don't have horses.. you don't have horses.  But the season overall for the team overall was not great.  Maybe as good as it could have possibly been.. or better.  But that doesn't necessarily make it great.

It's all good, I didn't mean to come across mad about it that's my fault.

Dropping will help all sports.

It's a great place to work and I love the kids here, I honestly feel like the arrow is pointing up for all sports, and we will have a turnaround in some of the sports that struggled.

I know nothing about the process of the AD hiring, but looking forward to whoever we bring in and hoping for a positive impact on all sports.
