Only 10 showed up for practice Monday.

Both Sabine Pass and High Island struggled to finish the season last year.

Looks like that carried over to this season.

Word I am getting is that Sabine Pass is canceling all their non-district games but hopes to be able to field a team for district games.

High Island is indeed canceling their season but will play a Middle School season.

I'm serious with what i'm about to say. For those kids that really want to play, UIL should allow a special no wait clause for them to go to PAM, but that would have to happen like today. The 10 that showed up, 1 or 2 might have real talent and deserve a chance to be looked at for scholarships

There's always the chance that 1 or 2 have some ability.  However... having enough ability to maybe fill a roster spot at PAM and being mentioned in the same sentence as "a chance to be looked at for scholarships" are so far removed from a comparison that it's laughable.  Sorry.  I have to believe that not only SP, but just about any school that size that had a "scholarship player" would not only either figure out how to fill a schedule, but would be extremely competitive.  Especially if we're talking skill kids.  But.. I'd bet that any high school football player that truly has a chance at playing football at the next level isn't going to Sabine Pass.

Welp, I imagine most of those improvements came from the taxes generated from the LNG plants in the area

And, they don't have the boys to fully participate so yes, close the campus

it might be the one or two that have two more years that have all the tools and just need to be coached up...(that might be a problem at PAM). It might be a kid there with speed, but probably needs to learn to catch. Until someone can vouch, nobody know the caliber players they have over there. As stated, THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THERE! the people that live/rent out there is working at the plant, which usually it's a bunch of guys sharing a house till the project is done. If you really wanna go there, the 2's, the ones that got no playing time or kids that don't like PAM, starting at Nederland.

Two more years... to learn how to catch?  Look.. I know it may be hard to hear that they likely have zero players that will lose an athletic scholarship because of the football season folding, but the truth hurts sometimes.  It's not meant to be offensive.  It's an absolute fact that the chances of a Texas high school football player receiving a scholarship to play beyond high school is miniscule.  Roughly 2% receive a scholarship of any kind.. less than 1% receive a full scholarship.  If you line up 100 kids from the state (including Westlake, Southlake Carrol, Carthage, Aledo,.. hell... Katy, Barbers Hill, Nederland, WOS..), you honestly think that 2.. or 1.. out of that 100 will be a kid that plays at Sabine Pass High School?  Get your feelings out of the equation, dude.  

And.. believing that a kid incapable of (catching) as a sophomore can somehow be "coached up" and become a scholarship player brings your knowledge of the game into question.
