Heard whispers about when and where last week didn’t think it was true though, but coaches at the other school confirmed today he was there

Correct.

It's my understanding he enrolled at United today.

I fully expect him to be signed off on but wonder how DEC will rule.

Yeah that’s the real questions because from what I heard a coach in the district isn’t very happy about it

So you actually think coaches would back out of applying because of one player who would have only been there two more years transferred out?

If that is the case, Silsbee does not need any of those coaches.

I agree that those coaches will probably be weeding themselves out if they do, but it isn’t far fetched that some may.

Without Jones it’ll be tough to win the district, and with the pressure of following up a great coach with Sigler and the high expectations that come along with that I could see some shying away.

Silsbee been stealing talent from Beaumont for years! It’s our turn now lol

This move could possibly make BU one of the favorites to win state! However the best coach in SETX is still coaching in the Westend

To be accurate, more Silsbee talent has left to go to Beaumont schools than has left Beaumont to come to Silsbee. But I get what you are saying.

I do agree with this making BU a state contender.

I get that United is a great program, but what would make playing basketball for BU more advantageous than playing for Silsbee? A player of Jones' caliber will merit the looks from colleges regardless of where he plays ball.

In these times in the high school basketball world, college looks and scholarship offers come from summer shoe circuit ball.

This move has really nothing to do with college offers or exposure.

Yep" it's all about winning a ring. And BU will be top dogs in 5A now that they have him ..! The starting 5 will be dynamic. #1 big in the state will be in that starting 5..!

Then go win a ring in Silsbee

Meaning go win another one for Silsbee why leave

From what I have heard and through my own observations, I believe the family felt that the window for their son to win a state championship at Silsbee was his first two years at HS. They lost in title game his first year, then lost to state runner up this year.

With the Tigers likely looking at a bit of a down year coming up (down being 2nd in district and going 3 rounds deep) most thought he would move on but with Sigler retiring, it was no surprise to anyone they made the move.

Now, what the reason for that move will be up for debate at DEC meeting.

Scuttle butt is suggesting that this is not a done deal. Lot's of hurdles to leap still.

Stay tuned.

I've got to think other coaches in that district will not take kindly to a move with that type of impact. I agree with you, we will see.

I wouldn’t say it’s “stealing” Jones is from Beaumont actually ……

With the exception of his freshman year, Payton has always been on weak Silsbee teams relatively speaking. He had to be Lebron every game in Jr High. It's just bad timing of when he came up. You wonder where his little bro will now play when he comes up.

I say go get that ring at United now. No hate. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️

So if it’s for athletic reasons then he won’t be approved. This could get really ugly in my opinion, let’s hope it doesn’t but my gut tells me it will with the other coaches in the district.
