HarryDoyle Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago 5 hours ago, AggiesAreWe said: So you actually think coaches would back out of applying because of one player who would have only been there two more years transferred out? If that is the case, Silsbee does not need any of those coaches. I agree that those coaches will probably be weeding themselves out if they do, but it isn’t far fetched that some may. Without Jones it’ll be tough to win the district, and with the pressure of following up a great coach with Sigler and the high expectations that come along with that I could see some shying away. Tigers94 Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago I wouldn't overreact to this. Silsbee may have 4 or 5 kids that'll go straight to varsity in 27. Assuming they all stick together. They just need to nail it with this new coaching hire and all will be set. Next year might be rough though. Who That and HarryDoyle 2 Quote
Coach_Izzy Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago Silsbee been stealing talent from Beaumont for years! It’s our turn now lol This move could possibly make BU one of the favorites to win state! However the best coach in SETX is still coaching in the Westend Mamba 1 Quote

But I get what you are saying. I do agree with this making BU a state contender. Coach_Izzy 1 Quote
Who That Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Crazy thing is everyone knows the only reason he left was for basketball purposes . I'm wateing to see what the DEC has to say also about this too"..! 🤔 Mamba 1 Quote
2wedge Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago I get that United is a great program, but what would make playing basketball for BU more advantageous than playing for Silsbee? A player of Jones' caliber will merit the looks from colleges regardless of where he plays ball. AggiesAreWe and 5GallonBucket 2 Quote

In these times in the high school basketball world, college looks and scholarship offers come from summer shoe circuit ball. This move has really nothing to do with college offers or exposure. Quote

They lost in title game his first year, then lost to state runner up this year. With the Tigers likely looking at a bit of a down year coming up (down being 2nd in district and going 3 rounds deep) most thought he would move on but with Sigler retiring, it was no surprise to anyone they made the move. Now, what the reason for that move will be up for debate at DEC meeting. Scuttle butt is suggesting that this is not a done deal. Lot's of hurdles to leap still. Stay tuned. Quote

I've got to think other coaches in that district will not take kindly to a move with that type of impact. I agree with you, we will see. Quote

Tigers94 Posted 57 minutes ago Report Posted 57 minutes ago With the exception of his freshman year, Payton has always been on weak Silsbee teams relatively speaking. He had to be Lebron every game in Jr High. It's just bad timing of when he came up. You wonder where his little bro will now play when he comes up. I say go get that ring at United now. No hate. It is what it is 🤷♂️ Quote
Excoach1970 Posted 46 minutes ago Report Posted 46 minutes ago So if it’s for athletic reasons then he won’t be approved. This could get really ugly in my opinion, let’s hope it doesn’t but my gut tells me it will with the other coaches in the district. Quote
